This year, as we know, is the 25th anniversary of one of the most groundbreaking video games ever.
That's right, Super Mario Bros. - the best-selling video game of all-time.
Throughout the years, it has seen several remakes and re-releases. The 1993 remake for the Super NES was featured as part of Super Mario All-Stars. Like the other SMB games, it features enhanced graphics and music.
Then came Super Mario Bros. Deluxe, released in 1999 for the Game Boy Color. In addition to playing the game in a similar fashion to the 1985 original, there were several new features: a Challenge Mode where you collect Red Coins and a Yoshi Egg in each level, a You VS. Boo Mode where you must beat each level before Boo does, and a Toy Box and Album. However, the graphics overall were similar to latter-day NES graphics.
Now, to mark the game's anniversary, Nintendo should release a version for the DS (or 3DS) which has graphics similar to and in some areas exceeding the SNES style, while retaining the additional features from the GBC version - and maybe even some new features, like unlockable, graphically-enhanced remakes of Donkey Kong, Donkey Kong Jr., and Mario Bros. - with each game containing some new features not in the original (some of the latter's would come from a JP=only sequel).
The game probably won't be released this year, but if you think this is a good idea, post. And if you have any ideas for new features, say so please.
