I've noticed that there aren't many Smash players in WV or near the borders of WV. Reply to this with your nickname and location and I will make a list of people so we can eventually have some tournaments or smashfests in WV.

Once we get enough people on the list, anyone who wants to have any tournaments post them here so I can update this.

So there are three possible local tournaments this Christmas break:
1. coreygames might host a mini-tournament ($5 entry fee) in Charleston some time.
2. Beyond_the_Grave might host a tournament in Madison on New Year's Eve (lock in all-nighter).
3. The Oddity might host a mini-tournament in Huntington on December 29th.
With all these possibilities, all of us should be able to go to some kind of smashfest this Christmas break.

Thanks to everyone who came out to Tsubasacon, it was a lot of fun. Now I hope you guys know that Brawl is delayed until February 10th. This means that we will have more tournaments for SSBM before that date. Would anyone be up for a Columbus, OH tournament on November 3rd?

There is an anime convention in Huntington on the weekend of October 5th through the 7th called Tsubasacon. Tournaments will be held there in SSBM, Guitar Hero II, Halo 2, Mario Kart DS, Tetris DS, and Stepmania. I've already contacted them and I need definite head counts from all of you on Smashboards. Tell me whether or not you're interested and when (Friday, Saturday, or Sunday) you would like the tournaments to be. If you'd be willing to participate in the other tournaments aside from SSBM, tell me too.

There is a pretty good chance that there will be a tournament on the 18th of August in Madison. I have already contacted people and figured out the venue fee (which is extremely cheap). There are rumors that we can get about a dozen people from Madison and probably 5 more from Charleston. If any of you guys on this player finder could make it, that would be great (invite your friends too). Also, I have a program on my laptop that runs tournaments extremely efficiently, so this time should be better than last time (which wasn't even that bad).

Are you guys in Madison down for a tournament in early August either there or in Charleston? Preferably, we would do it during the day and not overnight. Everyone's in town here then and we have a "pro" coming in too (although TC may have caught up to him by now). Throw out some ideas.

We are thinking of hosting a tournament somewhere in Charleston or Madison near the end of June. We hope to attract out-of-staters, especially since this tournament will be after *Pound* 2 (btw, anyone who wants to go to that, contact anyone of us here in Charleston). Tell me if you have ideas about the tournament and if you're interested.

It's about time someone made a topic like this!! XD

You guys are in luck, because I'm at home in Charleston right now (technically, I live in the Kanawha City area). And I am currently on my 2-week vacation break from college.


Anyway though, in my opinion, I think I'm one of the best Smash players in the state. LOL. XD

And by the way, my best characters are Pikachu and Mewtwo.

I hope that I will eventually be able to play with you guys sometime. It sounds like fun. ^_^

i live in Portsmouth, Ohio and well, its about a 45min - 1 hour drive to Huntington, WV. I got a lot of friends in college down here that play smash and we are always looking to take on a crew of people. So if u live close to Huntington or something maybe we could meet up and play some time.

I live in the mix between Charlestown and Inwood. For the longest time, I had to travel all around the states to enter tourneys. Lets see, I've been in a total of 4 tournaments. I won 3 and became a runner up in 1.

I have yet to encounter any real competition like PC Chris, Ken, or Isai.

We are thinking of going to some Pittsburgh weeklies or maybe even *Pound* 2 this summer. Since most of you guys seem to live closer to Pittsburgh than we do, maybe we could meet up there some weekend in early June.

Hey, my skills aren't for show n tell, especially for guys who love to get there hands on advanced tech moves. Moreover, someone could study my moves and pick up on my style of gameplay. I will say this though, I do play a very, very unorthodox Falco. That and I don't have the tech. to put it up on You Tube even if I wanted to.

So do you guys want to meet up somewhere so that I can play you guys? You know, for just your average friendly competition? For those of you who live in Inwood/Charlestown/ or where ever, you guys do know where Tuscawilla Hills are don't you? That's were I live.

We have a player finder now, but we have yet to host many tournaments. There was one in southern WV earlier in spring where my crew (TC) swept doubles and singles. It would be better to have tournaments up in Morgantown at WVU (closer to Pittsburgh and Maryland).

Yeah man, WV's has some pretty ridiculous smashers. Be sure to roll on down to a tournament and you can get some MMs in with the best in WV (TC baby).

Anyway, we really need to hold a tournament in Morgantown or something soon. Is anyone willing to do that? Kaotical needs to get in gear. I'm also wondering if any out-of-staters would attend (Morgantown is pretty close to Pittsburgh and about 3 hours away from VA smashers in Arlington -- not sure if they'd be willing to travel that far). Well, if anyone wants to get a tournament going, that'd be great.

We have a lot of people in the Madison area.. it's just that none of us are good. However, we could raise the competition level in our area if we played with better people. I was hoping that Jay (the guy who's idea it was to have the Halo/SSBM tourney) would have another big tourney in Madison (minus the Halo) but I heard that he and the other guy running it exchanged "words" thus probably ending the tournaments there. However, I usually have friendlies at my father's house on Fridays and other Smashers are welcome to come when we have it.

If you guys who attended the last tourney in Madison remember where the McDonalds' is, we play in the subdivision behind Krogers'. I will give you guys a "heads up" next time we play. (We have gotten somewhat better in terms of technical skill),

I know that is a mouthful but I think that WV should have a bigger Smash community than what we have.

West Virginia does have a decent Smash community, it's just most of them don't belong to SmashBoards. I've played with about a dozen that aren't on the list (and none that are)...

A lot of the problem is that most players on these forums are spread rather far apart in terms of geography making any sort of local tournament in WV spread by word of mouth rather than in an organized fashion. However, I see that this thread will hopefully become useful.

Definitely keep us informed. I still have the "other guy"'s number (his name is Chris, I think). We were thinking of hosting a BIG tournament some time in late June, so maybe I'll call him. We would love to go down for some friendlies and help you guys get better so we can improve the WV smash community. If any of you guys in Madison have a capture card, we'd love to see some videos of your recent play. If not, you should definitely buy one. They're a pretty solid purchase, and it would help the WV smash community for sure (plus, again, we'd like to see how you guys are improving, and we as well as the rest of the smash community would definitely help you guys to improve).

Yeah, I am still pretty much out of your league but I believe I have improved since the last tourney in Madison. I wavedash a lot more which in turn allows me to play mindgames. I have been trying to drillshine because it would most definitely help out against my friend's Peach. (About the capture card thing, I actually know three people with those but we never really record; however, I may record a 2v2 match this Friday)

I thought of a crazy idea of possibley a WV Smash League of sorts. This could go well, in my opinion. Anyways, if I have a Smashfest, it will be probably two weeks from this Friday.

Sure. It was just a thought. It is mainly just a SmashFest. I usually have something of the sort every Friday.

As for drillshining, that's definitely something useful you should work on. That as well as waveshine combos (waveshine -> upsmash/grab, or just multiple waveshines) work wonders against a peach. As long as you have the general idea about l-canceling and fastfalling, it's really just practice. I look forward to being able to play you soon. As for getting a match up, I'd definitely like to see some 2v2 or 1v1 matches of you guys. If you happen to get some matches up, post them here as I'll be checking this thread fairly often (as Smashboards likes to spam my inbox, lol).

I like your thinking. I had thought of the same thing but never really knew how to get something like that started. I'm sure with some publicity, we could really get the WV smash scene going.

Go for it. If you think you can get a tournament up and running, I'm all for it. I think that venue was somewhere between $40-60. If we charged like a $3 venue fee, we could easily get that. Plus, we wouldn't have to take any money out of the pot which would be a lot better (we'd have to figure something out about TVs though). As for a tournament in Charleston, we'll try our best. I'm sure it wouldn't be too bad, we just need to look around for a good venue. We'll let you know if we come across any.

I have been working on my drillshines in Training mode but I can't seem to pull them off in game. (Partly because I get distracted very easily) I haven't improved overall to where I could give you guys a good deal of a challenge but I am getting there.

I was thinking maybe we could have SmashFests just about every weekend or so. Perhaps alternate from Charleston one week and Madison the next week; if other players get interested throughout the state, the locations could switch. I just know that Smash is rather big in the Charleston area and lots of people play in Madison (plus we have an ideal place for SmashFests).

Me and KrazyKnux are out of town until early next week. But from then until the end of the month, we'll try to get something worked out. I'm currently in the process of contacting Charleston's YMCA to get us a place to have a tournament.
