I can't choose wether I want to go with the first style or the style similar to Frostwraith and Falkoopa. Can you guys tell me which one you like better please? Then I can get to work on these things as well. ^_^

I like Style 2 better. Probably due to consistency with mine and FalKoopa's icons.

You don't need to use Photoshop. Just use Gimp which is free. (unless I didn't get your question correctly...)

Paint.NET, GIMP...

There are many good freeware image editors that work with layers like Photoshop. Just don't use MS Paint.
