Looks like there is an art asset leak indicating what the game likely is.

I’ve seen arguments that putting Luigi’s story in a Switch 2 Edition of the TYD remake would ruin the joke, but I think I know a way to work around this: turn Luigi’s story into a roguelike mode where you make up the story as you go along on each run. That way, you can (ideally) have Luigi playable while retaining that he’s a blatant storyteller.

I think the only time Luigi was playable in a Paper Mario game for example was Super Paper Mario on the Wii.

Also applies to it’s predecessor where he wasn’t playable in Mario RPG since I think it’s before Luigi was fully established as a more distinct character in the games.

So I have been lamenting since the release of the original switch, while it is a great console, I miss the days of dedicated handheld gaming. I've been spending basically the entire past 4 days watching console modding videos, people making portable Wiis and adding OLED screens to Gamboys, stuff like that. Now that the Switch 2 has been announced and the ridiculous pricing model it's going for, I think there could be an actual market for a mid-range purely handheld console.

Portable Computers (like the steam deck), unlike traditional portable consoles; they can't fit in your pocket, need a lot more cooling since the games are more technologically demanding, and way more expensive (being basically a small laptop). These appeal mostly to the sort of older hard-core demographic.

Phones also represent a huge chunk of the portable gaming sphere, but gotta be honest, whenever I see reports that mobile games make up a third of the industry I can't help but think the numbers are skewed massively by like 5 skinner boxes with anime children on them, and the rest of the mobile game market is filled with trash. Even then, gaming on phones takes up a massive amount of battery and I feel like even people who play mobile games would appreciate a dedicated console for games.

This leaves a massive market space for people who want portable games, arent hardcore gamers, and dont want to pay a fortune for it. I think a portable console (actually portable, as in fits in your pocket) that focused on smaller mid-tier releases that werent as technically impressive but were priced at around 40-50 dollars like how the 3DS used to be could carve out a good niche for itself.

Honestly I just think handhelds are interesting technology and I'm fascinated by how wild the designs could get, like duel screens and clamshell cases. All modern 'portable' consoles are just tablets with joysticks on the sides. I'm sad that this type of tech is dying out in the mainstream and I am willing to delude myself into thinking it could come back.

As a PlayStation game, I think PaRappa would be perfect for the Switch 2. I mean hey, we're getting Patapon 1&2 for the Switch soon, so it wouldn't be impossible.
