I'll talk to Ethan today.
Also, I hope everyone knows that they can come down on Friday's too. It's not just a Capcom night. However there is no tournaments going on during Friday. (As far as I know)

How many people would be interested in a tournament on the 22nd? I was shooting for the 29th, but it doesn't sound feasible.

Then again, I might just do a tournament in November instead, since it's sorta last minute.

You should do it like the first week of Nov. Or whatever is the second weekend after the next Best Bout tournament... Or maybe the second weekend on Nov. in case people are trying to go to GC

Hey Oregon smashers :3 (until now I wasn't sure if there was any)
My name is Eric :D (or WhispersOfEvergreen, or just Evergreen <.< )

I'm trying to start going to turnys pretty regularly, and this Best Bout one coming up looked promising, but now I'm seeing that is has pretty horrible attendance. You guys think its so bad that its not worth the 5$?
If so, where else can I take my controller and my money to? lol, I'm really amped to vs some other people than the same 3 people I play every other week :p
I'm willing to drive pretty far I guess, :p
please and thank you!

There's nothing wrong the Best Bout tournaments nor their attendance (which have both had pretty good turnouts for how small Oregon is). Where did you read this? The only issue was that people were having scheduling conflicts with the smashfests that were every Thursday from 5 pm to whenever, though they are now on Wednesdays with the same time frame.

Don't get the idea that people don't show up. This is a primary problem with oregon melee imo. Two or three people say they won't show up or there's some unconfirmed evidence that there will be small attendance, which makes other people question if they should go, thereby guaranteeing that very few people show up. If you have the ability to go to a tournament, you should go. Experience is a plus no matter what. Besides tournaments are fun to hang out at. Also don't trust the allisbrawl info. That is primarily brawl info. There are only about half the oregon melee community on allisbrawl, so there's no real way to tell how many people will show up, just the hype factor.

Anyway in the case of Drunkenmaster it's nicer to start your with your first tournament being small imo. That way it doesn't feel like you're in some crowded room with a whole bunch of strangers.

edit: AcActually make that less than half.

Ya you guys are right for sure, but I kinda imagined like 6 people showing after reading "3rd event that will probably have crappy attendance" in the description of BB on allisbrawl haha so I just had to stir up some discussion. I just don't have a fair impression of Oregon SSB scene :| Its been at least a year since I've been at an event.

Its a perfect date for me though, so if nothing spontaneous gets in the way I will most definitely be there :D
Oh, and btw, your name sounds familiar keeper. Do you know a guy named Kami? Plays Samus?

Edit: Time, date, and location are all trustable at least, I hope? O.O

Hey guys, I live in downtown Portland (I go to PSU) and I just started playing Melee. I want to give myself a couple months or so to get better because I am really quite bad right now. But just curious, how frequent are tournaments here and what is the range for amount of people?

Things look like they happen often (like the weekly best bout stuff). And the one tourny I went to had a nice turnout of like 30ish+ I think. though I don't expect that much for every tourny.

@ The two newer people: The tournaments themselves don't get like 6 people, the smash fests did like twice.
I run the stuff at Best Bout so if you have any questions go ahead and ask.
We have Smash fests every Wednesday.
and a tournament every 3rd Saturday of the month.

EDIT: We have officially moved to Wednesday.

So if the date is changing 100%, will it be happening this week (REALLY HOPE SO!).
It will be happening this Wednesday. Also, I REALLY hope that the attendance is better now that we're switching days because Ethan was worried that it would have less people.

As long as it's wed I'll be there and I know keeper wants to go as well, I think my brother and probably minh and maybe even jayce will try to make it as well.

Hey newcomers if you live near PSU and have a gamecube I can come over and teach you some tricks ^_^ I've been around for like 6 years now.

That's referring to the fact that Best Bout was doing Mario Kart Wii tournaments along side the Smash stuff (the '3rd event') and they'd only get about 4 or 5 people entering at most. Smash has always had decent turnouts.

How early does it happen again, timewise?

I've found my schedule leaning towards more of the early evening, like between 6-9ish, and I might be able to go now, but I can't really stay late b/c of classes :p

Oh cool, I might be able to make this one for once lol. Are they still doing Brawl, or has it kinda died? lol

either way, I'm gonna enjoy getting some practice in either game. Melee doubles has been kinda addicting lately.

My main problem is transportation, we should really get a carpool to help w/ that if we really want to get Brawl smashfests happening there. Otherwise, Maylee all daylee lol

I know you. You, Brandon, and Jingwei carpooled with me to a tournament at Grunt/Vulcan's place like two years ago.

I go to PSU (as does Binx and I think Phil?). I don't live on campus though.
If you want to play people but not go to a tournament, the Best Bout smashfests would probably be pretty good, or coordinating something with Binx. I don't know how close to the campus you live, but if it's super close I could probably play you if class schedules don't conflict some day.

You learn a lot going to tournaments, even if you don't enter. You can still play friendlies and stuff until the TOs need the TVs for matches.

I live off campus, but only like two blocks away. So I would love to play around. I will consider a tournament soon!

Thanks, I like your avatar too. Sung Tongs is one of my favorite albums. I would love to, but I have a radio show Wednesday nights for KPSU. :( It starts at 9, and I am supposed to get there around 8:15-ish. I am available before then though. Where is it?
