I've always enjoyed the announcer, no matter which one it is. And I've heard Pat Cashman sing so he's automatically my favorite.

Yeah the same weird thing happened in the Italian version too. Lucario, Pokemon Trainer, and the Announcer (and only those characters) were dubbed by Italian people...they didn't even had the decency to hire Lucario's voice actor from the cartoon or to hire, you know, a professional voice actor for the trainer. The result was embarassing on so many levels. Not to mention that the announcer pronounced Pikachu in a very weird way.

Hopefully, this time they learned their lesson.

He's pretty good in general, sounds a lot like Pat Cashman.

However, what's up with the Villager sound clip? Usually the announcer says a character's name in a way that fits the character. Take Brawl's sound clips for example, Mario's is energetic, Luigi's has a "ummm... you sure about that?" vibe, while in Bowser's he sounds fierce and goes into a deep tone. Same can be heard here, with Greninja he sounds mysterious, with Pikachu he sounds energetic and ready to go. So why is it that with Villager he sounds all doomy and gloomy? And yeah yeah, I know the jokes, but that really is very weird imo.

That really is just a nitpick though, the rest of the characters sound fine to me.

I start to have a feeling that the Villager has a hidden dark secret...

He sounds good. But just like the name of the game is stupid, what is he gonna say in the intro? Can you imagen? "Supeer Smaaaaash brotheeeers for Wii Uuuuu..." Or will he just say it without the last part?

I'm going to let it be known now that no announcer in any video game I've played can match the magnificence that is the man from SSB64! I just don't see how your blood won't start flowing and how your body wouldn't be ready after hearing his work in that game. "Free-for-Alllll!", "Congratulations!", "A NEW RECORD!" (<-- That one always gets me, ha ha), and the ever-so-famous introduction, "SUPER SSMMAAAASSSSHHHHH BRRROTTTHHEEERRRSSSSS!".

Now. . . With that being said, as of right now, I'm sort of on and off with the SSBIV announcer. Some things he says I feel has a pretty good tone to it, and others not quite as much. Overall, I think I just don't like how low his tone / pitch are (not that it's necessarily "bad", it's just not my preference). Perhaps I'll warm up to it more when I actually own the game, and am able to hear it on a more consistent basis (I might even end up liking it more than Melee's / Brawl's, maybe, but it's already set in stone to not be near 64's).

I love the new announcer. Although he sounds reminiscent of the Brawl announcer, I'm totally fine with this more varied and authoritative upgrade.

I'll list my favorite announcers:
  1. Smash 64: So energetic and perfect for the role.
  2. Smash 4: An upgrade of Brawl's.
  3. Brawl: A varied, authoritative announcer.
  4. Melee: I don't dislike him, but he sounds a bit more static than the others.

Pretty sure it's Pat Cashman again. He seems to have less of a deep echo though, sounds clearer, which I think works.

Love how Villager, Mega Man, and Rosalina (& Luma) are announced in a similar manner to Bowser. <3

I also love how energetic he is when he announces Sonic, Little Mac, and Pikachu.

Spanish names of Pokémon are the same and there was a Spanish dub for the announcer and some characters. Kind of wierd, because Lucario (yes, Lucario), Pokémon Trainer and the announcer spoke Spanish but spacies, Falcon, Ness, Ike, Peach etc. still spoke in English. And of course, Marth spoke in Japanese. It was pretty strange... and also, this Spanish dub was pretty bad.
Agreed, I hope they don't dub the voices this time around. The English announcer sounds great.

This might sound weird, but the announcer is one of the things that really gets me hyped for the game! And the Smash 4 announcer is amazing, in my opinion.

Take a look at this video:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VhVZX_fGoFw

I just friggin' LOVE how the new announcer says Donkey Kong, Sonic and Olimar! :)
What are your thoughts on this announcer? To me, since he kind of sounds similar to the Brawl announcer (Pat Cashman), this announcer kind of sounds like a better version of him, if you get my drift :p Really like how he says all the names!
Cool! The way he says a few of the characters names is eghhhh, especially how he says Link, Villager and Mega Man's name. But I absolutely LOVE how he says Greninja, Donkey Kong, and Mario's names! Much better!

I like him better than Brawl's announcer, but that's pretty much it, not a fan of how Brawl and SSB4 have "regal" sounding announcers. The announcer in Melee had kind of a funny voice that I liked and I miss it.

He does say Greninja amazingly though, and I like how he says "OLIMARRRRRR!" all enthusiatacly when Brawl's announcer just said "Olimar" and sounded super bored

Just heard the announcer in my language. (From the demo)
It's the same as in Brawl... just worse. lol :p
Now I know I have to switch the language of my Wii U to English,... again.

I still think Dean Harrington was the best. Everything he said sounded so guttural and epic. It was hilariously over-the-top in a good way and was the type of voice that just gets you pumped to play some Smash. The heavy emphasis on the voice echo also added a lot of gravitas to his performance.

I wasn't a fan of Brawl's announcer and this new guy sounds almost identical to him. No offence to them but compared to Harrington, it sounds phoned in.

What gave it away?
Something from a past Smash Bros game and over-complimenting it and then comparing it to Brawl.

Anyway, I don't agree with you at all. I feel like the announcer gets better every game. Melee's announcer was a like a slightly less epic Brawl announcer, Or well Brawl's announcer just got enhanced in every way.

Yeah, shame on me for sharing my opinion and praising something I like. Also I didn't compare it to Brawl's, I just said that this new announcer sounds identical to Cashman's performance and I don't care for it. I also think Melee's announcer is superior to the original's, I just didn't bring it up because I didn't feel I needed to.

My guess is the VA saw the memes of Villager and was all " heeey.. I could use that"

Completely agree with most on this thread, the announcer is awesome. It would be even better if we had alternative announcer voices to unlock, just as easter eggs. Or maybe get the Epic Rap Battles of History announcer in there O.p

Yes!! The new announcer is fantastic. Qualifies for one of the best fighting game announcers IMO, might usurp the USF4 announcer. When he says Greninja he doesn't really yell it so it sounds like he's impressed and intrigued that someone picked Greninja. Gotta love it.

I like him, but I grew a sentimental attachment to the Brawl announcer not too long ago after finding out he was from Bill Nye the Science Guy.

Can we just get the 64/Melee announcer back? He just ****ing yells god damn everything. Brawls/4's announcer sounds like a guy trying to MAKE his voice announcer-y, while the originals was just like "**** YEAH SMASH, FREE FOR ALL".

Loving the new Announcer, it sounds more imposing than Pat Cashman and his Master Hand laugh is so strong (but still doesn't beat Dean Harrington's psycho laughs)
