Would it make sense for Falcon to hop in his vehicle and rush forward as a Special? I rest my case.

I'd like to see him redesigned to look a little more post-apocalyptic. Namely, making his armor out of pieces of salvaged scrap metal and have a lot of his normal attacks have him pulling out improvised weapons.
MOVESET TIME. I'm going to just use "he" because of the confusion on that silly "bet you didn't expect that the Mach Rider was actually an impractically dressed woman" reveal.

REINTEGRATE​

He dissembles into a cloud of scattered particles for two seconds. While in the cloud form, the player can move it around freely, lightly and repeatedly damaging enemies in the cloud. After two seconds, he reforms where the cloud was.

Side​

MACH BIKE​

He seamlessly gets on as it forms underneath him and continues at the speed he already was moving. Pushing left/right controls acceleration and it is possible to bring the bike to a stop. The longer you move in the same direction the faster you move, and the faster you move the more damage/knockback the bike deals when running into enemies.
While riding
A: Fires rapid firing laser pellets similar to the small shots of the super scope item.
B: He backflips off and lets the bike explosively disintegrate after a second or when it runs into something.

He throws his current weapon as a projectile and equips a new weapon as it reintegrates into his hand.
Each weapon he uses has a different speed, power, and range that affects his Normal attacks. All of his Normal attack animations works for any weapon.

ROAD RAGE​

The Mach Rider performs a special melee attack based off of which weapon he's wielding.​

Pipe, STREET STRIKE: He flashes briefly and then swings upwards, powerfully launching enemies into the air.​

Tire Iron, KO STUN: He flashes briefly and bring the Tire Iron down, stunning an enemy.​

Chain, WHIPLASH: He releases the other side of the chain to quickly strike at long range.​

Sledgehammer, RAIL SPIKE: He hefts the hammer up from behind and swings it in a circle down to the ground. Anything hit on the way is knocked in the the direction the swing is going.​

I see him being a fairly slow and heavy character, just stronger/slower than Mario. Of course, he would be faster if he accelerates on his bike and his combat is quicker using his tire iron. His Normal moves would all be rather straightforward swings with whichever weapon he's equipped.​

... I think this would be an excellent character, just saying. I came on here to say "probably should be an alternate costume for Falcon" but now I definitely would want to see this guy. ​

I don't think that another character should be an alternate costume of a character in the game. Alternate costumes works with Wario because they are different outfits (which is why King K. Rool should also get alternate outfits if he gets in), but putting Mach Rider as an alternate of Captain Falcon would be kind of insulting to Mach Rider.

And then R.O.B. becomes Mach's sidekick and Mach has an extension on the Mach Bike for R.O.B. to attach himself to, then they both become drifters when the story is over as they are two kindred spirits without anyone else.

Ergh, did you play No More Heroes 1? The biking segments are some of the most poorly executed vehicle sequences I've seen... I was glad that they got rid of it for the next game.

Also, stylistically, I actually would want them to go for a more straightforward, moody, and realistic style. Maybe a low color atmosphere, but not cel-shaded.

A new Mach Rider game should take place on Earth in the Metroid universe... let the Metroid series explore the universe while Mach takes care of the homeworld information. They both have aliens, both in the future... yep.

Eh, haven't played any Platinum games but I'm sure they've had solid vehicle segments, sure.


I just read that "Suda51" appears in the credits for Subspace Emissary mode, but nobody really knows what he did for it. Huh. That's... pretty interesting, actually. Maybe Trevor Touchdown's chances aren't as bad as they could be.

Anyway, I still think I wouldn't want Mach Rider stylized like Suda's past games, even though I've enjoyed them. It's got a certain comic-book feel that doesn't really click as grim post-apocalyptic, which is how I imagine Mach.

Hot damn, Mach Rider has much more potential for future games than I thought. If only Nintendo would revive the series....

I was SO CONVINCED that MR would be in Brawl after Sakurai posted Wario's bike, as a pseudo-clone or hodge-podge of various character moves. Regarding the color schemes, MR had a different palette depending on the stage colors. There are several existing options. (And Excitebike should be one too!)

I think it is more likely that the woman that appeared in between each level of the arcade game is meant to represent a survivor/resistance member in the walled cities, though I'd have loved for this not to be the case. Given that Melee already identified MR as male, they may stick with that unless the Japanese description was gender-neutral. (Which is very likely.)

I guess I'll say this, If the woman doesn't start appearing until the player has beaten 10 levels then perhaps she is MR. If she appears in between levels from the start of the game, she likely is not. (Similar to Samus and Captain Falcon being unmasked at the end of Metroid and F-Zero X.) It would be cool to have a woman other than Nana in the game who isn't blonde. As much as I love the existing girls, that isn't very representational.

Ok, I misunderstood this. After each level, a few more tiles reveal her. I thought the player was just mashing through the scene. Maybe she is Mach Rider? I'm still going to say that if there are gendered pronouns in the Japanese trophy, that tells us what Sakurai thinks.

Not sure what the Japanese trophies said, but from what we know in the English version, Sakurai refers to Mach Rider as a "he". If Mach Rider is also referred to as a male in the Japanese version, then I'd imagine that Mach Rider will be considered a male if he gets in Smash 4 along with a reboot if Sakurai's next project is Mach Rider.

The "body shape" of the suit Mach wears could easily just be the suit itself, especially with the futuristic setting.

If there are Halloween costumes that can fake a six pack, then it isn't farfetched to believe a biker suit from the future can fake one was well.
