Almost definitely. playing league atm. TEXT. ME. I want to play smash
Fine. I will do that.

Anyways, FOR OKUSER AND NINJAPENGUIN (CAPS):

I'm thinking that I could try to start hosting a semi-regular smash game night at my rather small apartment. It would probably be just you two, gunner, and I most days, or some variation thereof. I can't really fit more than 4-5 people in here, especially the living room space. If you guys want to try it, let me know on here. Probably try PMing me since this thread isn't always a priority for me.

IMO what sucks the most is that the SSE exists while some characters' jab combos don't even link properly.

You could just get a friend who has the full character roster and stage list his memory on an SD card. That's what we're doing at my tournament for any Wiis that don't have those two.

If the opponent isn't literally right next to you when you jab with Sonic, they can shield hit 2 and 3 and punish you. Some characters can PS snake's full jab combo. A lot of characters can PS ZSS'. Samus' can get PS'd. I believe Falco's jabs, as good as they are in a practical sense, are unsafe on hit on some characters, especially jab 3. I know there's more, but I'm on a phone.

Now that I'm thinking about it, what do you guys think about SDI? Should it remain? Escaping is good and all, but it completely invalidates some moves.

In Brawl its silly to have because you can't get big combos anyway. In melee its absolutely necessary. It allows for escaping combos that wouldn't be escapable with normal DI adding another layer to skill involved in the game without invalidating any single move really. It also allows you to survive longer in Melee due to SDIing in to the ground to tech which isn't possible in Brawl. If Sakurai continues the path he took with Brawl having SDI in it would be kind of pointless as like you said it completely invalidates some moves, however if he makes Smash 4 more like Melee it should be left in.

I really hope smash 4 is somewhere in between Melee and brawl. I mean I love a really technical game and all, but its not necessary. Just a faster pace game that doesn't reward camping so much. And more balance. I'm sure I'd still play Melee, but hopefully I would play both. i also wonder if people will continue to play brawl like they do melee after smash 4

:mariomelee: Since Smash 4 is being discussed here Sakurai decided that since this is the last of the smash series he will make it both competitive and fun for everybody.I mean we will revolutionize the metagame or make it competitive like brawl.Anywyas expect all characters from smash 64.

In Brawl, SDI's main use is getting out of mult-ihit moves. SDI isn't completely useless in brawl, it's a complete GODSEND playing against :pit:.

Smash 4: I honestly don't know. If you look at Sakurai's track record, each game he tries to make less competitive. And considering how gimped Brawl was, I wouldn't be surprised at all if Smash 4 was just Mario Party 10. But on the other hand, it seems that Sakurai has noticed that the fans like competitive play more than casual, and is working toward that; the partnership with Namco-Bandai shows that. Here's the thing though; IMO Smash games are so different from other fighting game for one main reason: The games weren't developed with competitive play in mind. Melee was supposed to be more casual, but look at what happened! If you play Street fighter, you can just as easily pick up Mortal Kombat. I personaly think the glory days for competitive play ended with Brawl. (remember this is all my opinion) If Sakurai develops the game with competitive play in mind, then it will just be another Street Fighter. If it's developed with the mindset that he had with the other smash games, it's just going to be freaking Mario Party.

I also wonder if people will continue to play brawl like they do melee after smash 4
It depends on what Smash 4 is like. People will definitely still play Melee and Smash 64, but if Smash 4 is more casual then Brawl, then I think people are going to keep playing Brawl. If Smash 4 brings more to the table, then Brawl will be a deserted wasteland.

I was pretty sure when melee was created it was announced the series would end there, then the wii came along and we were tricked to believing the 3rd smash game would come out in 2006 (at least we got it 2 years later). Anyways Sakurai said on the official site for brawl that this would indeed be his final game even before he finished making it, now the wii u is out and he is making another one. Smash seems like one of those games Nintendo will try its best to keep around whether Sakurai contests or not just because of how much it sells =S

Melee sold 7 million copies (highest selling GC game, not surprising), Brawl sold close to 11 million copies. There's no way they'll let this series die, if not for the money, then at least for the fan support. That said, I don't think the next one will have Brawl numbers. Everyone and their mother had a Wii.

I disagree that the main reason smash is different from other fighting games is because they weren't made with competitive play in mind. It's not like they didn't know they were making a fighting game. You can turn items and stages off, clearly that's a design decision with some nod to organized, competitive play.

I don't doubt the developers of smash 64, and probably melee, initially misunderstood the depth of their own engine but the unique properties of smash -- %-based knockback, mechanics of DI, killing off the stage -- were all done on purpose. I dont think sakurai's team, even if it includes namco, would ever make smash 4 just 'another street fighter'. They have their own unique smash mechanics and they're not ******** (Well, the did think brawl was a good idea)

also, penis.

Serious Post:

The Southern Rebellion Brawl tournament (held on June 1st) is currently in the position of being cancelled/dropped from the event. If you have planned on going and have not yet registered or whatever the problem is, make sure you make your interest heard on the Facebook page, at the very least.

They do not mind having a small 8 man bracket, and the setups are not a problem. There will be somebody there to TO for sure (it could be me as a backup, if necessary).

If you have the time or money to make it (and you play Brawl), please try to do so and show support for the northern part of LA.

ASIDE: Melee players are welcome as well. There may be some setups (at least 1, mine) for friendlies and we may improvise a small Melee tournament, particularly if Brawl lacks entrants.

Turns out, I can't go. I forgot that I have a weekend trip with my church. Yeah that's right: FORGOT! Had to pack and leave in like 2 minutes. I swear, everytime I'm about to go to a tournament, something comes up. And it's kind of pissing me off. I want to get active, but there always seems to be something.

Well, we do have the circuit schedule up for next season. Pick a date and plan accordingly.

So I didn't realize this thing was OVER five hours away...by GPS estimation anyway. I've already been driving a while, though. It's looking like I'm gonna be 30-35 minutes late. Can you do other matches first, Bomber?
Also is N64 happening?

Okay so I went 90 the whole way so I won't be that late.
But then I get stuck behind the guy who orders 160$ of food at a McDonald's drive thru, so GG.
