This looks like it would be really useful for incoming players. Keep up the good work man!

very nice.
my main critique would be that you should refer to the video more.
because i watch a lot of smash, i can tell that what you're talking about corresponds to what you're showing, but if you were to say stuff like
"watch how this sheik predicts falco's tech in place and punishes it with an upsmash" (at 7:40)
that would really make it clearer for new ppl

"recover quickly"

bull****, if you wanna teach something do it right...
Recovering slowly is not a good idea, I'm afraid.

I like the information in the video, and think it would be useful for friends of mine. It would be nice if the clips matched what you were saying, though, sometimes they're playing something else, and it can be distracting.

I found the video to be a great other half to Wak's tutorial videos. I've got a few friends who can do advance techs just fine, but don't understand why they're not getting better. These videos should help them out a lot. Looking forward to the next one.

I agree with this.

How to win at Melee:

Learn how far the opponent's SHFFL distance is (and other important attack techniques; obviously with Peach or something you want to know her float heights and how much she can move in that position). Position yourself outside that range (if you're on defense) and know how to play inside it (if you're on offense).

Know your own SHFFL distance (and appropriate attack technique ranges). So you can initiate, defend, and position effectively. Also know your hitboxes so you can beat moves, know what you can challenge, know where you're at advantage, etc.

Learn the relative properties (lag, startup, hitbox duration, hitboxes, etc.) of your opponent's important moves and then challenge, bait, dodge, or move around them accordingly.

Combo intelligently. I cannot stress enough. U-smash not good at 50 in Fox dittos on FD.

You should generally be trying to hold, or acquire a certain range or position. Or be doing something. "Nothing" counts as doing something but it also doesn't really do much for your position (though if you're already in a good position, it can be a beastly scare tactic and it also doesn't immediately worsen your position most of the time if you're on the defensive). Playing off "nothing" demands a lil' reaction time / prediction (because you're not really defending or doing anything).

I have to say I am new to melee and I found this tremendously helpful. I also very much enjoyed your "How to Train your Falcon" video, since I am a falcon player these two videos helped me out a ton. Thanks F Zero!

im guessing this hasn't picked up as much steam because it's not on waffle's channel, lol. either that, or there aren't enough players THIS new to the game. Either way, my next vid will be split into 2, maybe 3 parts and will be much more in-depth. It will cover Reading & Manipulation, and elaborate on the steps covered already.

What do you guys think wasn't covered enough?

Nice idea ... I guess ...

If you're going to continue doing this video series I'd suggest dissecting like ... players with much better execution than you <_<

Marth doing random double jump / full jump Fairs and then throwing out a random Fsmash vs Falcon is "keeping space"?

High Dairs on shield / in immediate dashdance grab range is "safe approach"?

Why is Roy even in this video, and how is "counter randomly" anything like "utilize hitstun" ... maybe showing some combos that abuse hitstun like ... Knee knee? Stomp knee? Maybe something like safe shield pressure (unless you think dropping down from the mountain with Bair is safe <_< at least the Bairs looked sufficiently late)

There was like 1 real combo in the "combo" section, everything else was like ... ._. what is this

At this point I realized there was actually commentary, so I watched the whole thing over up to edgeguarding

Why Roy???

First example in edgeguarding is a relatively low risk high reward read ... followed by Bairing a dead Falcon, probably the last thing you want to do because if he DId it better he might've had a 2nd chance =_=

Link???

Some not terrible edgeguarding (although they still look mad awkward) ... followed by Falcon grabbing Fox's illusion and following with an Ftilt into the stage ... great

Show clip of Bowser, no mention of up-b out of shield ... hmm ...
O I see, his shield is so BIG
And his SIDESTEP ... wait that's Mario sidestepping ... cuz Bowsers sidestep is terrible ...

I hate how the Fox recovers because I think he's doing it like, totally wrong ~_~

Whatever - not really trying to hate, but I think the examples reeeeeeeeally need some more work (or you can just like, take vids of Peepee playing or something <_<)

Interesting idea
Better clips
Characters no one plays like Roy would be better off in like their own tutorial if someone actually has trouble with them :awesome:
Characters a few people play that are super cheap (like Luigi) should definitely get their own tutorial :glare: maybe I'll make one ...

Ya one of the best videos i have watched in melee for sure, has helped me out a lot. Even if you are not a falcon player the training techniques found here should be infinitely useful.

I guess its alright for new kids, but Wak's advanced how to SSBM worked fine for me in 2008. and after playing people, and watching videos (silent spectre) I kinda figured most things on my own

haters. well im gonna get to work on fixing the audio...
but examples are examples.

edit: I think you're taking this way too serious wen. Im not about to match everything perfectly, that would take forever. My goal is to get the point across, the point being in the audio.
