On a much less profound note (though still somewhat relevant) I can't wait for the SSBM tournament at my local gamestop's midnight release of Brawl. Yea crushing noobs is gonna be fun but I'm hoping to run into real competition and maybe get crushed myself.

Are some Gamestops doing Melee tourneys? I thought it was Brawl but I could be wrong.

Yeah, playing better players is always fun for me. Sure, maybe I won't win. But I tend to learn a lot when I play more skilled people.

I'd consider myself a 'casual' player based on the fact that I use items, and play on nearly any stage (except Flat Zone ;) ). However, I can hold my own against many of the pro players at my university... I'm pretty good with advanced techs, too.

I just dislike the Pro's hatred of items... I know that games can be lost by the infamous 'appearing Bob-omb,' but the items open up a lot of new strategy. It just annoys me that, when I want to play really good people (aside from one or two of my friends), I have to play with them off.

Other than that, I've got no problem with the "pro" lifestyle.
I think you hit it pretty well, without the underlying malice I usually, whether intentionally or not, seem to end up plugging into my posts. >_>

It's not jealousy, it's just annoyance at some limitations.

I still don't like "advanced" techs. Maybe Brawl's will feel less glitchy and more, I dunno, advanced.

@KaiserX. Please allow us to use the functions that were put in the game without criticism for doing so. The item Toggle feature is there, and competative players have for the most part agreed that items are bad for tournament play in smash, so just let us use the item Toggle that was giveng to us. The random stage toggle feature is there, certain stages have been determined to be bad for tournament play, so let us use the random stage toggle that was given to us.

You say we're cutting out the game's content and that smash wasn't meant to be played that way, but it obviously was. It was obviously meant to be played however we wanted to play it, and that's why these options were given to us. Tournament play is only existant because we have this feature to shape the game however we see fit, and we wanted to have a competative environment. We took levels and items of by choice because we have more fun playing this way. You can play the game however you want to play, but please don't impose your rules upon us, when it's obvious that we wouldn't have as much fun playing your way as we do ours.

P.S. The majority of advance techs in melee were put there on purpose. L-canceling was purposefully derived from Z-canceling in SSB. Wavedashing was the product of the directional airdodge and the special land fall animation. Dash dancing was something the designers put in themselves. Waveshining was the product of wavedashing and jump canceling. Jump canceling was completely intentional, because it's what allowed you to preform the up smash with the control stick and the A button. None of these techniques were glitches, it's just that no one really saw the applicatioins of them. But as competative players, we use everything that's given to us as a means to win, because the game is more exciting to us that way. The more stuff their is to use, the more fun we have with the culmination of all that stuff. The game is more fun to us this way, and you have no right to tell us how we should play our game.
