So yo, i remember when everyone was talking about higurashi.
Just to make a point, i very rarely watch anime. Ive seen death note...chrono crusade and higurashi (seasons 1 and 2 or w/e you want to call them).

Any recommendations.

depends on what you like.

right now i'm finishing up Nodame Cantabile (its a show about classic music and learning piano comedy/romance) i'm enjoying.

its makes me want to play my piano so much more.

but i'll post a list of good anime for different types later.

FLCL
Monster
Full Metal Panic (all three series)
G Gundam (manly as ****)

I would recommend Evangelion but that's pretty much an acquired taste at this point if the divisive fanbase is of any indication >_>

There's more I could recommend, but honestly, when I look at it, I haven't watched a whole lot of anime (only around 40 titles... if you consider that a small number >_>) but I've been recently getting into the mood for it again. I'm planning on watching Record of Lodoss War and Boogiepop Phantom

Outlaw Star is great.

And I third Cowboy Bebop.

Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust is also really good. It's a movie, and the plot is pretty basic and straightforward, but the presentation, characters, and ESPECIALLY the art are great. The voice acting is very good too (it was originally dubbed in English, then they dubbed it in Japanese sometime later, but I would recommend watching it in English since it's very well-done). D is pretty ******.

Give Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex a try, its only 26 episodes long. The show has a postcyberpunk world setting where the people are composed of cybernetic parts including their brains. Probably one of the more rewarding anime shows out there besides FLCL in my opinion.

If you don't like romance anime then you haven't seen the right ones at all:

Koi Kaze
Honey and Clover
Rumbling Hearts
Saikano
uhhh... can't think of anymore.

Also, Beanman has great taste.

Robots are cooler than both.

If I had to choose one, I would say that watch geass, but honestly, there are so many better anime that these two shows shouldn't show up on your list for quite some time.

If you're looking for romance, I agree with honey and clover. Rumbling hearts is....interesting. I dislike the character designs, they are pretty bland when compared to the plot.

rofl what?
Or maybe i just dont want to watch cartoons romance each other.

Im thinking of watching Code Geass because so many people have recommended it to me, which is kinda the reason i ended up watching Death Note (which was probably my first anime ever)

Really???
Have you seen Cowboy Bebop? That tends to be the bridge that leads people to try anime. Watch that...right now. Seriously, stop reading this and find it.

Funimation has a lot of it's shows available for streaming.

Adding one more to the list, although I haven't watched it personally, the amount of praise that is given to this series is overwhelming. Hajime no Ippo.

Loved it!!!
Code Geass is like a faster-paced version of Death Note. It's also somewhat brighter, but it isn't a big deal. Death Note is what got me into watching anime and one of the first shows I watched after it was Code Geass. I'm still not really an anime person, but Code Geass remains my favorite anime and I doubt that will change any time soon.
