c buttons for jumping with one exception. uair is easier to connect with fox if you just hit up then A. that really is the only time I use up for jump.

I use both, mainly c-buttons for regular jumping and jump canceling. There are certain moves that I prefer using up to jump, especially during combos.

Is it common knowledge these days that joystick jumps go higher than c-button jumps?

(Yeah, I use both, depending on the situation... though c-buttons in most cases)

i use c buttons.. didn't know that about the first stick jump being higher, though.

One thing that I think would be really hard to pull with joystick jumping is something like mario's sh d-air + u-air combo, since you have to start the d-air almost instantly after jumping.

I've exclusively used c-down for my jumps. After learning that the joystick jump is actually higher, i've been trying to incorporate it into my game, but i'm having a real tough time because i'm just so used to using c-button to jump...

Is this valid? If so, is it really that effective to get extremely unfamiliar with using C-Button on first jump for the extra height?

I use the control stick to jump mainly in the **** house to get onto that ledge after a bair or something
thanks for the tip :) it seems obvious but i never realized it. ive been using c-up to jump over the ledge after my b-air with pika and it sometimes messes me up.

Does it make that big of a difference? I usually make it onto the ledge using the c-button.

You need to use left-c to sh lasers and shine cancel. It's common sense to use left-c if you're planning to do a B attack and down-c if you're planning to do an A attack after jumping. Unless you're a R button aerial user lol.

Maybe I'm stupid and my reading comprehension sucks, but I'll just ask anyways.

Ok for control stick jump, does it only go higher on the first jump or does it go higher for 2nd jump as well? If it makes 2nd jump higher I should start doing that while recovering probably.

felix, the control stick only makes the first jump higher. if you use both your jumps, either way is the same.

umbrasquall, its possible to make it onto the ledge using c-button but i tend to short hop it and miss lol. and yeah sometimes i feel like grabbing a lot so the R button aerial user mode works well.

I use down C for lasers and sometimes slide for shine but not really but I never slide for SHDL

thanks thino.

i understand most of what you wrote but "the shine is cancelled as well" part confused me. how is the shine canceled? (btw the optimal way to do it would be down-c followed by down-b right?)

and i always thought that was called "short hop shine" ?

Any tips on how to SHDL fast?
I was playing you online in a FFA game and you were constantly doing this... you might have been on KB though so I don't know...

And pikashox, shine cancel is what me and guzzo do all the time... its when the shine doesnt last as long as when you simply press b-down. If you short hop it then the landing cancels the rest of the shine frames.

...do it all the time? like how you do the jiggly slide all the time right? lol

ive never seen you shine cancel. EVER. guzzo does it often though.

but yeah i know what it is. its just the name that got me confused.

SHDL = short hop double laser, right? how do you do that without sliding? In my experience I have to slide my thumb from left-c to the b button as fast as possible. I guess you wouldn't have to slide if you jump with the joystick, though.. is that what you do?

I think that the use of the c button and up on the j-stick is completely situational. Speed is the most essential part of the game, so which ever is faster is the one you should use. For Up-air combos with falcon and pikachu I go with the j-stick, in all other instances I go with the c button because it frees up the j-stick to manipulate the characters horizontal movement.

uh... i do do it all the time... just as much as guzzo... its jus he mains fox and i dont play fox often...

and i do jigg slide all the time too... i think you mustve forgotten our ditto jiggly matches.... i do it all the time... just not for effectivenessand more for like after you're dead and coming back on the stage lol

and DWP... you can't short hop with the joystick

...bull? but w.e nobody but mura actually uses it effectively (both the jiggly slide and the shine cancel) ...and i've been practicing the shine cancel...ive almost got it perfect.

but i do have two questions about shine canceling... (not directed towards wha.)

which buttons do you use for the shine cancel? i start from the up-c...then quickly slide my thumb pass the left-c and reach the B button where i position my joystick down and towards one side...i can't seem to do it as well without using both c buttons...its odd

and can you chain two shine cancels? sorta like waveshining in melee...i can't seem to do it..the opponent always techs or attacks before i reach him for the second shine....maybe my fingers aren't fast enough?

with my recent experience playing as fox I must say shine canceling is a gigantic waste of time. much to situational for the work you will put into doing it. Rarley do i use. the only time I think using the shine really is even worth it is for shine spiking and you cant cancel the shine when you are going out for the spike. Your time will be much better spent learning dshl over shine cancels.

from my short time playing fox using shine cancels (since yesterday) i can tell you that its pretty useful. you eliminate the lag from a regular shine. you can drill + shine cancel...then chase much quicker instead of waiting for a regular shine to end. plus an up-tempo fox looks more pro lol.

volrec, what do you mean at the edge?

btw jump + shine cancel off edge...not a good idea. xD (don't ask why i bothered to shine cancel off a jump lol)

It's probably in the timing. I shine-cancel by sliding from left-c to B. However, I can't short-hop directly into an up-aerial unless I slide from right-c to bottom-c to A. Which is funny because I can shorthop double laser just fine. I haven't been playing the game long enough to get that down yet I guess.

Also, Pika, because of the input delay online, it's harder to shine cancel completely (not have the shine appear). But you're playing on the real console right? Btw what is your online name?

You can also chain shines, and chained shines as a shield breaker. I can do it offline sometimes, and I've seen Neph do it a lot online, but he plays on keys.
