The real winner is whoever makes the most friends.

Kirby is top tier cus es so ****ing ute. Who isn't his friend?
Gosh I hate fighting someone with Kirby... The perfect way to make me pissed is copying me with him.

So hell naw I'm not Kirby's friend...

I hate playing as Mario, yet my friend's tell me he's my best character. In my heart, I want to be good with Wario, the most evil character in the game. They don't understand... :wario:

Does anybody else feel this?
Nope.

While link is my literal favorite character out of the available people on the roster, I choose to play as the people I have the most fun as.

Those people also happen to be my better characters.

In other words. Roy.

Personally, I try to ignore things like aesthetics, personality, and story/plot relevance when choosing characters in fighting games. In the long run, none of that stuff really matters when determining how much fun I have with them. What determines whether I like a character is how well their playstyle and kits mesh with how I want to play.

That said, what usually determines my favorite character is how aggressive I can be with one who has a fairly fundamental kit. Once I find a character who can utilize that kind of oppressive play and has decent tools, I've generally found my favorite. That's the reason I main a character in any fighting game.

Honestly, I wish more people would treat their mains the same way. I can understand the desire to play who's your favorite outside gameplay, but they can still be your favorite if you don't play them. When it comes down to it, you'll have a lot more fun with games if you choose things that suit your playstyle.

It just takes more time. At first, I was really good at Roy, I wanted to be a Sonic main. After a while of practicing and I am much much better as Sonic then I ever was at Roy. c: Best of luck to you!

I find that if you try to embody the character you play as, you can do really well aa him/her. On a side note, if you really are Chandler, your Ragna's pretty awesome.

Oh, I don't doubt it. If you have the motivation to really learn a character and adapt to what they have to offer, you will do well - and in that regard, having some attachment to the character prior to your desire to learn them can really work out in your favor - especially if that character suits your playing style.

And thanks, haha. It's been too long since I played BB. Playing Ragna without my Ronald McRagna colors just isn't the same, but I do still enjoy it. Do you play CP, by any chance? I get the feeling we've played before, haha.

It's not a reason to stop playing any character... '-'

Play what you want to, because you want to.

Who cares if others use it or not... you'll be the one using it in your plays. not them.

Nah I need to get CP, you have the 2nd best Ragna I've ever seen.

That is a pretty good reason, at least you won't be called "cheap"

Even if I did have CP, you'd body me hard.

I kinda just mix and match until I find a set of characters that are fun to play before I learn them.
I think I've finally found a good mix with :pikachu2: and :falcon: as co-mains.

So I guess I've never had this problem.

Okay... what?!?

First of all, That's like saying you shouldn't do the things yyou like because people might not approve of it, which is a pretty medieval concept to begin with...

And second, Mario? Cheap? ...MARIO?!?

Not saying to not play that character, and anyways Mario's play style is way more campier then Melee. And hell yeah he's cheap, 80% kills with uncharged fsmash is ridiculous, and I DI

I feel it. I love Ganondorf and Ivy, but I feel like my Kirby is well rounded. I enjoy Kirby, but there's something so satisfying about choke killing folks.

I main Mewtwo and Marth. I mained both in Melee, and Marth in Brawl. I'm also loyal to Lucario. I'll play him sometime, cuz Spirit Bomb is gdlk. But when I need to go serious, Mewtwo. People get salty because of this. I'm like

I want to be a falcon main, but I suck with him.

So I threw away all my manhood and decided to main marth.

I have that problem in Melee, I prefer the Spacies and Ganon to any other character on the Melee roster in terms of their characters and how much I played their respective games. I ended up maining Marth because I was good with him and the Spacies died way too early for my liking. Although I have been slowly trying to develop a competent Ganon it is no where near my Marth at this point. Although I did start playing FE because of Marth and realized it is made by the same guys that make Advanced Wars which is a game I really enjoyed so there is that.

Then when Brawl and then PM came out I dropped Marth faster than a a lifeboat off a sinking ship and picked up Ike and Snake in both games and haven't looked back since. I still use Marth on occasion in PM just for fun or to cover a bad matchup but I don't consider him my main anymore except in Melee (until Ike and Snake get patched into Melee which will never happen but a man can dream dammit).

You just have to find characters you really like and just put mad amounts of time into them to get good with them.

A spammable projectile that is safe and deals 8% damage is pretty borderline.
Yeah, it'd be terrible if a character had a projectile that dealt 14% and a lot of knockback.

Your pain is not of this world, rofl.
You seem to fathom my pain better than most people... At least Roy, my second favorite character, is actually viable... So I make do trying to go to larger stages as Puff and smaller ones as Roy. The struggle is real regardless tho. Like 3/4s of my friends main or secondary Link.

I have a pocket :zerosuitsamus: but I'd much rather play :squirtle:, it's just against :marth: and :metaknight: I'm better off going with range.

I realized, which is why I stopped playing him :\
Went to a tournament in northern washington, about 80 PM entrants, fought like 5 marios before I got knocked out, all had almost the same strategy. Fireball Fireball Fireball Fireball Fireball Fireball D-smash.

I wouldn't call him cheap or broken or too good in any way. I would just call him extremely simple, although I don't want to look down on any main I do find myself frowning when I see ANOTHER mario P:M player.

Honestly, I must just have good luck or something, but Diddy and Olimar were my number one hopefuls for Brawl, and well...

Although honestly, for PM, I guess Mewtwo isn't technically my favorite character, where from a character perspective I like Ganon, Diddy and Ike more and I'm ****ing awful with Diddy, but I dunno...picking favorites is hard.

It's something we all go through. I've been playing Roy since 3.0 came out and yet I barely use him at all in tournies simply because I'm incredibly bad with him. I'm a fraud of a Roy main lol. However, I still dedicate most of my time with PM to improving my Roy play so that hopefully one day, I can be skilled with my favourite character (favourite to play as that is, I don't care for Roy himself at all since I haven't played Fire Emblem 6).

Having /one/ usable cheap technique doesn't make a character cheap...

By that theory, pretty much all characters in the history of fighting games are cheap...
