That awful feeling when your best character isn't your favorite . . .

Does anybody else feel this? I'm undefeated against my friends as Link, and lose all the time as Ike. But I love the Fire Emblem games and really want Ike to be my best.

However, come tournament time I always go running back to Link instead of fighting for my friends . . .

Link is better than Ike so it isn't completely surprising.

:ganondorf::falcon::roypm: Hmmm... Nope. :chuckle:

Since this is PM, I chose my favorite characters and mained them until I got good with them (This is not as plausible in other Smash games due to the fact that most of them are pretty unbalanced).

Don't play as Link = Friendship power increase
I used to main Ike at one point, knowing all his AT's and being able to use them seamlessly, now I've forgotten everything and I'm crap as him T_T

Sometimes your playstyle doesn't mesh with character favoritsm.
Sometimes who you love to play is someone who you are not naturally good at.

I noticed that the more technically sound I get however is that I'm able to use more and more characters proficiently and pick up subs easier. So keep getting better and Ike will soon come natural.

The heck do I know though, Ike and I get along ASAP

Ike is the easiest character to learn

But Ike can talk. And are you factoring in the power of friendship?
Basically what Shairn said. Aside from just being more powerful in general, and an incredibly annoying vertical recovery Ike has to work considerably harder than most Links'. It's also, fair for me to make the silly point that we both play Fire Emblem characters for our favorites, mine is not played that much in my opinion.

Am I right in thinking everyone has their pocket Marth/Roy?
A lot of people play one or the other. It also seems to me that a lot of wifi players that I play with have a Roy...

Who wouldn't want to play Roy, though? A guy with a flaming sword? You'd have to pay me to NOT play him.

Roy is a bit too easy to learn then Melee, plus it's all about the Marth Dance

I mean, at scrubby levels anyone is pretty basic. But to play Ike at any proficient level requires quite a bit.
I also main Meta Knight though, so you can make fun of that if you want though...

Learning and Mastering are two different things, Mastering any character is grueling and difficult. I simply mean learning his AT's, basic and complex concepts, and his play style/effectiveness.

Oh... at that level?
Mario and Link come to mind way before Ike.
C'mon bro, you aren't really "learning" a character at that level anyways.

That is true somewhat :S. I know though from personal experience that Ike was easy to learn, and people better then me complained about how "easy" he is.

Ike's Qd is what makes him a pretty technical character, because the move is so fast and can be jump cancelled. So then you can do things like qd into jc grab, or usmash. Along with classic wave dashes or just straight up attacks. You can also wall jump out of it for recovery. You also have to have precise timing with the qd cancellation and have to have appropriate spacing because of his sword sweet spot.

Even though I don't main Ike, I've always felt that he was one of the more technical characters in the game.

Not really technical, I mastered doing that in 1 week of playing as him (2nd week of actually playing the game), I mean I didn't use it as well as people like Metroid and Ally do.

If you like a character, learn to play them how you want. I'm working my ass off so I can make Luigi a rushdown character using the plethora of AT that no one's really took the time to think about and explore. Hell, I'm sure you could make Samus rushdown if you exploit the Super WD and all the options out of it.

I love lucario as a character, but I'm best with Yoshi. Don't get me wrong, I still really like yoshi, but Lucario has that sense of bada**ery to him.

marth is my favorite character but i dont like how he plays in this game, its not the same marth im used to in melee. so i use zss because she feels like marth does in melee imo. so thats why i use her. marth is just to floaty and i have to play slower than i like with him. but ive been playing ike a lot as well because the fire emblem characters are my favorite, plus imo he is really really good
