Just a quick, sort of funny story about tax day.
As many of you know, last week marked the day for Americans to grudgingly pay their taxes. As a moderately proud citizen of these United States, I usually don't mind paying my taxes. Until last week that is.
As I was driving home from my unsuccessful attempt at hunting turkey, I decided to see my accountant. I had held off from paying these taxes until the last moment, so I was unsuspecting of the horrors I was about to see. I sat at the comfortable chair my accountant, Mr. Brooks, had prepared. I wasn't worried in the slightest, expecting my taxes would be 20 grand or less.
As soon as Mr. Brooks entered the room, I knew something was up. He was sweating rather heavily and he didn't look so good.
"Brooks, what is it? Did you forget the papers?" I asked.
"Well, no sir, I just have a bit of bad news to inform you of." said Mr. Brooks
"Jesus, Brooks, how bad can it be compared to last year?"
"Well... You owe the IRS 82." said Brooks.
"What? 82 hundred is awesome! We paid what? 19 grand last year?" I happily exclaimed.
"Uh, no sir, 82 thousand"
I was in complete shock. What did I possibly do wrong to owe that much money? Not really knowing what to say, I paid the large sum and exited the building.
