Tantalus Presents: Brawl+ Mini Tourney at Stevenson! March 30, 2009

Hey all,

A group of players at Stevenson university are really into Brawl+. I asked them and they would be good for holding a small Brawl+ tourney so we can sample the game.

Date is tentative and subject to change.

It's in a dorm. If you're going, just PM me so I can get you my number. Call me when you get there so I can let you in. Just park anywhere close to the dorms and walk over.

This is basically just a chance to sample Brawl+ in a competitve atmosphere, hence no entry fee or prizes. If you want to test it out, come on out!

We'll be using the latest codeset. http://shanemulliganphotography.blogsite.org:6111/~shane/Smashcodes/. Have that codeset on your wii. We WILL NEED SETUPS, HACKED WIIs. Bring it on out. We also need TVs.

We have a recording setup there and we can record the finals for fun as a demonstration. The dorm doesn't have a TON of room, so I need to limit this to about 10 people or so. So just post here and let me know if you can make it.

We'll do singles first, and if we have time leftover, doubles.

Rules: You know the rules, nothing special even though it's Brawl+. 3 stock, 8min time, etc.

Shouldn't it be called Brawl- I mean it is basically getting rid of what was added into Brawl so it didn't add anything. So why isn't it Brawl-?

I start my new job that day, and I will be deep in Baltimore. I'll see what I can do.

Besides, I **** in Brawl+.
^^^ Truth. If we play teams, Bandit is my teammate. Zelda is ****ing ridiculous in B+.

I don't know about Corneria being legal. Walls aren't a big deal now but it still has retardly close blast zones. It's like playing on Flat Zone. There are other stages that could be considered though.
Pictochat - a little randomness
Distant Planet - items and weird layout
Green Hill Zone - camping the checkpoint might be a problem
Yoshi's Island Pipes - blast zones might be too close
Luigi's Mansion - circular camping might be a problem but it's really not if you're smart and destroy part of the stage
Shadow Moses Island - heavily favors vertical killers

I think these are all fairly legit now. At least as legit as Corneria.

I wonder if the Brawl+ community has come up with their own stage list. If they have we should use that.

Oh also, any word on this weekend?

umm, aren't you guys gonna be at my tourney? It's a 2 day

I'm running a brawl+ tourney there at the end of day 1 for all of those who spend the night.

Good to hear it is on the 30th and not on Sunday. I am hoping to be able to come home after work, get something to eat, and head back out that way.

I've pretty much talked to most of the mainstream MD/VA players, and the only people seriously interested in Brawl+ at this point seem to be JCaesar, Red Bandit, GIMR, and Aposl. Everyone else i've talked to seems to think it's not worth the trouble or dumb or not worth re-learning or some other excuse.

This will be fun. AIM me and get my phone number if you need it so I can get you let in to the dorm room, since there is a lock on the dorms.

is there a list of individual hacks used for the "official brawl+"?

weve played with all kinds of different hacks in the past but all versions are different depending on the hacks used

They seem to update Brawl+ almost daily, so it would have to be agreed upon what version to use.

You can ask JCaesar what version he uses. I know it is a beta that came out after 3.3, but it played a lot better than what 3.3 did.

I only play with the official released versions from the Brawl+ boards, currently 3.4 which is prolly gonna be used here.

Codes include:

Faster game
Hit Stun
Auto L-Canceling
Dash dancing
shield anytime during dash
canceling your dash with a crouch
no-autseetspot when you up-B(EDGE GUARDING)
Shield Stun
No Buffering
Ground Momentum transfers to the air when you jump(Like Melee)
No Tripping
MetaKnight's as light as jiggz
replays
Tags saved in replays
Down- C-Stick doesn't make you auto-fastfall.

GReg, we have a pretty mammoth official release coming out soon (GIMR, wait till you see the knockback code adjustments) with a huge amount of character balance now.



For those of you that care (YOU NEED TO USE BRAWL GECKO OS TO RUN THIS CODE – its 425 lines out of 430):

Codes in effect for tournament standard:
-Default Settings Modifier (Auto sets to 4 stock, 8min, team attack stuff)
-Level Freezer (Warioware and Pokemon Stadium 2 have no other **** going on)
-Dash Dancing (Improves the DD window)
-Buffer Mod (set to 2 frames from 10, improves precision)
-Shieldstun (increases shieldstun by an amount of Stun = (inc stun * 10 + 20) /5)
-No AutoSweetspot Ledges (yay for edgeguarding again)
-Character Specific Short Hop, Full Hop, Fast–Fall, Down Gravity and Normal Gravity Code (optimized character physics)
-Boozer Buff to reduce his incoming damage
-MK nerf to make him suffer higher knockback (dies at same % as jiggs)
-Frame Speed Modifier (we use this to modifier the speeds of moves for balancing)
-Hitbox Property Engine (also balancing, we can engineer the damage, knockback, knockback growth, damage type and launch angle of any move –*i.e. in the latest beta, jiggs rest is **** mode now, and falcon has reverse knee back, etcetc)
-Hitlag modifier (modifies the hitlag / SDI window)
-Character Specific Momentum Capture code (momentum from a dash now transfers into your jumps like it should have – i.e. sonic and falcon are too goooood)
-Dash Cancel (crouch out of a dash)
-Shield during Dash Dance (self explanatory)
-Tech Window (reengineered brawls ****ty tech window from a distance based window to 15 frame window)
-No Stale Moves
-No Auto Jabs
-No Tripping
-Triple Jump Glitch fixed
-Pokemon infinite stamina
-Hitstun modifier
-C-stick no longer causes fast falls
-Power shield Modifier (window is now tighter)
-Infinite replays and tags in replays
-Independent pokemon engine (no switch pokemon when u die if you select single pokemon on custom select screen)
-Custom Select Screen

And TONS of character specific buffs and nerfs

i.e. MK shuttle loop has been nerfed as has his dair, Bowser, Link and others receieved buffs, as did jiggs, ganon and others. Lots of changes there im too lazy to type after this monster post

The big changes to our new 4.0 are the hitbox knockback modifications

Yeah I played it. Switched over to GeckoOS to use the 425 line code and it worked like a charm, and real easy to set up too.

Agreed. If we use codeset 3.4, will that have the PS2/Warioware changes? Or is that only with the GeckoOS? If we don't use 3.4, I need to tell Ralph at the college so he can change his wii.

Also, if we for sure can get the PS2/Warioware changes, they will both be added to the neutral stage list.

GeckoOS is necessary for any of the latest codesets. If you already have the Homebrew Channel, it's downright trivial to add.

Alright then, I'll refer Ralph to the gecko stuff

if he can't do it i'll let you know, but even still it may be worth just having the one setup with geckoOS since the changes are so hardcore

Ok cool thing thats in that new codeset JCaesar (its still being tested, but its pretty nifty).

Instead of handicap giving a handicap, you can now use it to personalize your buffer window akin to almost an FPS "sensitivity" selection.

So if you choose 10% handicap, you have a 1 frame window, 20% 2 frame, etc. Anything above 100%, you have a 10 frame window (brawls standard).

So now players have the option of using a sensitivity they like on their inputs.

I left Ralph a facebook message and hopefully we can have it settled by monday. It's gonna be crazy!

PS2 and Warioware will be neutrals. I'm leaving Yoshis/Lylat off of neutral though.

Tant, I hate those stages anyway :)

PS2 & Warioware seem to work extremely well (I dislike PS1 so much with their weird edges). I am excited to play this tourney style.
