I was telling Wolf fans from the beginning not to take it for granted he would return. That cost him votes for sure.

If Konami comes back and the game remains third party heavy, I would think we would see two characters out of these four:

Bomberman, Simon Belmont, Goemon, Snake.

I'm of the opinion that if we get a Smash on the NX, it'll just be an upscaled port of Sm4sh and really won't have anything new.

Though in the spirit of the question, who knows. There's a really large pool of characters that could get in. And from the last three reveals we had, we can't predict anything.

Bayonetta ranked 27 which is still pretty despite being controversial.

Corrin ranked 116, and obviously he wasn't well received in the poll just as his official reveal.

Wouldn't take much to make Smash fans happy is the thing. Honestly, if a Smash NX port actually happened (don't think it's likely, for the record when I talk about Smash NX I mean the next full game in the series) and it brought back some Melee and Brawl stages and all of the cut Brawl vets I think 70% of the fanbase would be happy.

If they added Inklings and K. Rool that would get us to 90%. The remaining 10% ONLY care about Melee

The Mario series has gotten at least one rep each game (Wario counts for his own series but originated in the Mario series unlike DK and is a mainstay in all the spin-offe), as has Pokémon, so there's two trends we can guarantee for SmashNX.

While we cannot speculate on Pokémon considering the new gen isn't revealed at all yet, the only possible character left for Mario has to be Toad, because he's considered an all-star and is one of the highest-profile characters Nintendo has who isn't playable yet, as well as being the only playable mainline Mario series character not playable and the only Mario Kart 64 character who hasn't yet made the transition. Just make Peach's counter his and give Peach a new special and it's not even a problem.

Inklings are, as someone mentioned before, the Olimar of SmashNX, and they're likely to have sequels and be a guaranteed lock.

Dixie is likely to be relevant for a long while but if K. Rool returns to his status as main villain in an upcoming DK game the both of them are most assuredly a lock.

Style Savvy is a super successful series with loads of popularity in Japan, and I can very easily see the Savvy Stylist as the WFT and/or Villager-type character for SmashNX.

Ice Climbers are definitely coming back, Wolf certainly has the popularity as well but may end up in a Mewtwo situation.

Takamaru is the default Retro rep with the likeliest chance considering his popularity as expressed through an Assist Trophy and now a Mii Costune.

Beyond that, we'll probably be getting a new FE character, Tingle or Impa for Zelda as the other mainstay characters, an XCX character, and I can't speculate on smaller franchises (besides Advance Wars, highly likely to be getting a new game and therefore a rep) or 3rd-Parties since we don't know who they'd be haha, though I wish Wonder Red had the popularity to justify his inclusion.

Yeah, I have to say, I like Sakurai's roster way more

Fire Emblem Fates is essentialy Undertale.
Nohr is Genocide.
Hoshido is Pacifist.
And Revelation is Neutral. (Or if you want to put it nicely, True Pacifist)

That's not really a fair comparison, since last time I checked, Genocide is you actually being a bad guy.

A better comparison would be Shining Force III, in which you have the 2 protagonists from the 2 kingdoms and one character who ultimately unites both sides to fight against the true enemy. And Nohr is similar to the one protagonist on the Empire side, a very good person who wants to fight the true enemy and wants peace between both the rebels and Empire and even tries to find ways to make peace happen, but is foiled upon and used by his own douche of a father(and a real one at that, probably even more so than Garon) who wants to destroy the other side to get what he believes is rightfully his.

This times a million. Fans took Wolf's inclusion as granted and, quite obviously, it ended up biting them in the back. That's why one should never take something as granted. I voted for Wolf right back when the ballot opened and I have no regrets.

The fact Sakurai mentioned veterans as part of the ballot actually puts my mind at ease. Wolf might have been considered, as did Snake or possibly Ivysaur and Squirtle.

I remember when the ballot began that Bayonetta had a lot of support. Keep in mind that Bayo2 released in late 2014 and enjoyed plenty of popularity during the following months. When the ballot launched, she was still talked about often.

I can almost buy the conspiracy theory that she was purposely held off for DLC.

But at the same time, the theory could be wrong. If it were somehow true( which I find really unlikely), the ballot may have actually helped Sakurai in her favor. He wanted her it seemed( those glasses) and put a lot of work into it. and the fans had good demand so he said, this works out!

Again unlikely but it really is interesting, and at the very least, it shows Sakurai knew of her existence and probably liked the character.

The problem with Max's video was it was soooo fake. At least his Cloud video seemed somewhat genuine. Simmons constantly looking over to the camera and just acting overly hammy in general botched the illusion.

I remember telling people back on the old threads to just choose who they want and to stop trying to predict results by making baseless assumption about how people would vote, but almost no one listened. The entire point of the ballot was to gauge interest, but so many people were singlehandedly trying to "fix" the results.

Same here. I think it could most likely go one of two ways: characters that people would love but dont really expect (Wonder Red, Bayonetta, Ray101, Geno, Travis Touchdown) or a character few ask for but would be awesome (Aeron, Zael, Poo, Tempo, Sakura Samurai, Dillon, or a character from Elite BEat Agents or Dynamic Slash, or that dude from Disaster: Day of Crisis). There are just sooo many ways for Sakurai to throw all our speculation off.

This is the sole pic of the day that actually made me sad....
Unless one of the aliens or an ex-wonderful make it in, this kinda kills my hope for playable Wonderful 101 characters.

What's even more depressing is that people on Miiverse dont realize that the IP is owned by Nintendo.

They have considerably more personality than player characters. Just imagine Captain Cuttlefish, the Squid Sisters, the shop keepers, or the final boss
