Some more Nintendo/Hudson Soft facts:

Bomberman is the only third party character to have appeared on EVERY Nintendo console prior to the launch of the Wii U (and the fact that he's not on the Wii U is only because Konami is going to Konami).

The first third-party-developed Famicom peripheral was created in collaboration with Hudson. It was titled Family BASIC and was composed of a cartridge and keyboard for creating game using the BASIC programming language

The very first third party game on a Nintendo console, "Milk and Nuts," was created by, you guessed it, Hudson Soft.

Nintendo's ND Cube studio, which currently works on the Mario Party series, is headed by former Hudson Soft president Hidetoshi Endo. A large portion of their staff are also former Hudson Soft employees.
Bomberman really would fit Smash like a glove. I'd still rather have him over Snake. Though with Konami being Konami, neither are very likely at the moment IMO.

I'd be down with either Bomberman or Simon Belmont.
They are both much better qualified for smash than snake is.

I think we can include the Wii U since it's backwards compatible with Wii titles.

Technically Snake is already fully qualified for Smash. After all, he was already IN Smash.

If you did that, then you could include 3DS as it's backwards compatible with DSiWare too.

Bomberman title's are available as virtual console titles for the Wii U (and I believe the 3DS) in Japan. So that sort of counts.
Bomberman Blitz is on the DSiware channel, I came very close to buying it a few weeks back but ultimately decided against it. If I want a Bomberman fix I can just play the Xbox 360 one. Which is awesome.

But why did he get in Smash? Because of Kojima being buddy with our Great God Sakurai-san, which led to Sakubias.

However, he's THE original third-party, so he is a very important character in the Smash series.

I could...and will!

Eh. Sure Sakurai and Kojima are best buds. But Snake is a certifiable gaming icon regardless. He's not even an outlier 3rd Party any more thanks to Cloud.

In all honesty
If Smash 64 had 3rd Party Support
Bomberman probably would've been one of the O12
Simply because he was THE Nintendo 3rd Party back then
HUDSON was Nintendo's best buddy from NES - Gamecube
Mario Party, Bomberman, all that jazz
'Tis a shame that they ditched recently

I think I straight up said in our last sourcegaming podcast that Simon would have been the Konami rep if Smash 64 had third party guests, no doubt about it. Hudson was it's own thing at the time, though, so there would not have been any encroachment.

Third party characters in Smash 64 is a fun thought experiment.

10/10 would find a way to make a Smash64 Bomberman Mod that has his own roster slot and moveset and jazz if I had the time
Would probably add Ganondorf as well because

(Except the B Move would probably be Flame Choke instead of nooooorWAH)

I would prefer Simon over either Snake or Bomberman, but that's just personal preference. (Whips > Bombs anyday)

Heard the news of Project M. Quite surprising actually even though I didn't have much interest in it. At least one way I can remember it is through the Dracula's Castle stage & Turbo Mode in Super Smash Flash 2 (both of which were in with the Project M team's permission).

Now with it gone, I can finally say something I've been keeping my lips shut for a loooooooong time now: Back in 2013, I was at a local Smash Tournament in Alabama which TheReflexWonder was at (got to know him and he's a cool guy). After all the tournaments ended, everyone who was still there got to see a sneak peak at future stuff for Project M. The stuff included playable Mewtwo, Roy, Knuckles, & Lyn (Isaac was in it but unfinished/unplayable and Skull Kid wasn't mentioned). Reflex told us to tell no one about this.

So I got to chance to see/play those characters in action.

R.I.P. and I doubt someone else will try to pick up the project.

Simon Belmont would be awesome!
Snake would be, just like in Brawl, a lot of fun!
Bomberman would be nothing less than perfect!

However, we're talking about Konami here, so unless Nintendo buys whatever's left of either character from them, I doubt that a Konami rep has any actual chance (and even then, Konami wouldn't own it anymore)

Kiefer Sutherland and the composer for TPP will be at TGA too

My general expectation:

As Konami's CEO steps on stage, there are jeers, boos, and possibly thrown copies of Ground Zeroes. In spite of the vitriol, the CEO steps forward, constantly giving a gentle smile. A picture of Big Boss is set up on the screen behind him.

"I know you're all mad. This game left you with...."

The CEO removed a mask, adjusted his hair, and places on large spectacles. It was Kojima.

"...A phantom pain. However, I'm here to give you a joy you can truly feel. With the Phantom Pain, we tested the waters of our base. But now, I understand: Gamers need a hands-on experience. One that feels real. No phantoms to be found through digital code. It's my proud duty to announce..."

Kojima raised his arms as two men rolled out a large box of some sort covered by a blanket. When it was near the center of the stage, Kojima lowered his arms. The blanket was lifted.

"Metal Gear Solid 6: The Pinball Pain!"

The crowd, almost ready to cheer, stopped. Donna Burke was lowered from the ceiling, yelling "WHHHHHOOOOHAAAAAAAAAAAA" as the gamers began to scatter, cry, and yell in despair. Keifer Sutherland began to fulton as many of them as possible, smiling earnestly as he did so.

"THIS IS WHAT YOU HAVE WROUGHT!" Kojima screamed, before starting to laugh. "THIS IS MY PHANTOM PAIN!"

Due to the holes in the ceiling from the mass fultoning, the venue began to collapse. The Pinball Machine suddenly caught fire and gave screaming noises. It was chanting latin. Soon, the wood stage started to collapse, leaving only a small platform for Kojima to stand. Below, the fires of hell erupted.

"WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!?", the gamers could hear from the depths of hell as Kojima laughed into the microphone. Some gamers jumped into the hellfire to escape the sounds of the pinball machine. It started to play. Eyes melted, people began to curl up. All while Kojima kept laughing.

"YOU WANT A RUSE?! I'LL GIVE YOU A RUSE CRUISE YOU'LL NEVER FORGET!"

Molten pillars of lava formed behind Kojima. He stepped on them, unphased and unharmed, to reach the pinball machine. He cracked his knuckles and began to play.

Slowly, but surely, the brimstone and hellfire went away. The glass stopped falling, and people sat and quivered in silence. All that was left were the sounds of a pinball game and a childlike-Kojima, smiling and laughing.

He briefly turned back.

"Oh, and I'd like to announce that The Phantom Pain received the Game of the Year award. Thank you very much for attending."

I'm moreso referring to the fact that Pac-Man, Sonic and Mega-Man are all very mascoty. Even Ryu was pretty damn toony at one time.
All the third parties are mascots in a way;

Pac-Man is the mascot of the good ol' arcades, ghost busting and fast-food restaurants (because he eats everything!)
Mega Man is the mascot of 200X and the Three Laws of Robotics
Ryu is the mascot of beating the **** out of a Honda (not to confuse with E. Honda)
Snake is the mascot of somehow using boxes to be "invisible"
Cloud is the mascot of JRPGs and giant swords
And finally, Sonic is the mascot of failures :troll:

He was never an outlier because Cloud changed nothing...except the way we "speculate" DLC.
Not true, he changed how much PSASBR got mocked for it's lackluster character choice. Only from a bunch to a lot granted but still.

That happened the instant Ryu got in. Cloud is simply further proving this!

However, PSASBR does have Raiden, Cole MacGrath and Kratos, so there's still some decent stuff in that one.

Sonic could give COD a run for "most amount of money made for inadequate games". It's too bad too, as Sonic started out so promising.

Just want to caution everyone that NoE's YouTube channel uploaded a launch trailer for Xenoblade Chroncles X which apparently contains massive spoilers. Now would be a good time to go on a media blackout, just to be safe.

For example, we could balance our game based on what high-level players say, but if that meant beginner-level players would no longer be able to play, that wouldn’t be an acceptable outcome.
This is true, I certainly wouldn't want only the most hardcore of hardcore people converting it into a hardcore game. I'm happy L-Cancelling is gone and Wavedashing is gone in recent smashes, but I think a fine balance between the two is not only desirable, but an absolute must to create the best game possible.

If you cater only to beginners you get lackluster game without much depth, if you cater too much to the hardcore you make an overly complex game and it's way too far in that direction that beginners can't enter too easily. We need more of a balance between the two. Take some of the accessible ideas then also start incorporating more speed, more hit-stun and stuff like that to make the game more enjoyable from both perspectives. Smash 4 could definitely use something to speed the game up as it takes far too long for 2 stocks compard to Melee which uses 4 stocks.

You don't need to even make it like Melee, just make the KO's not so drawn out it takes forever.

Gameplay footage was just released of scrapped Project M content.
Your updates and support will surely be missed.
