Welp. In other news.

I had a dream last night that the Smash presentation happened while I was sleeping.

And when I woke up, the only new character that was revealed was the Despicable Me Minions.

Reddit blew up and was upset. I was upset. There were some people on the social claiming it was a genius move by Sakurai since the man can do no wrong, and others were just sad.

It seemed so real. It was like a nightmare.
Minions would make even the troll requesters upset,so there is nothing wrong on that.

And speaking of vampires in anime and manga, I've started reading this manga called Blood Lad, which is about an otaku vampire who falls in love with a Japanese girl because she is Japanese.

A comedic action manga with loads of supernatural stuff (it is set in Hell, after all) and very self-aware references to manga as a whole, parodying common tropes and making fun of, well, otaku.

One of my favorite moments in the manga has to be when the protagonist says that when he dies he wants to be buried near Nintendo's headquarters. (But he has a PlayStation, ironically enough.)

This whole PM situation reminds me of the Touhou Smash Battle snafu that happened recently ( FalKoopa FalKoopa will know what I'm talking about).

The short version is that From Soy Sauce, an indie dev team, wanted to make a Touhou-themed fighting game based on Smash's engine and release it on the eshop. It was crowdfunded (I think via Indiegogo?), and they were requested by ZUN, the creator of Touhou, to use something other than the Touhou IP because he couldn't endorse a doujin game being developed with other people's money. With ZUN's blessing, the team decided to continue development with their own original characters instead.

It's not quite the same context, since the PM thing is quite a bit shadier in terms of what we know and the conspiracy theories flying hither and thither, but it is possible that the PMDT were contacted by Nintendo and told that they can only continue development of their product (or future products) if it does not use the Nintendo IP in any way.

I don't know, just spitballin'. Either way, I still love PM and will continue to play it until the dev team release their next project.

If it wasn't for Bomberman making an appearance, I would have thought it was a random video for karaoke boxes.
The girl cos-playing as the Pink Bomber should have also clued you in.

Hudson is is so dang awesome, and not just for the great Bomberman Series. They gave us the fantastic Pokemon TCG game for Game Boy, Mario Party and others, as well as publishing so many fantastic niche games.

That game infuriated me (but to be fair as a kid Mario Party did as well). However, I've ran into huge fans of Sonic Shuffle. They just need to fix those load times...

Did you know that Hudsonsoft made the very first Super Mario Bros. sequel? Nintendo licensed the IP to them for use on old home computers. The results may not have been the best, since they where porting to hardware that was inferior to the NES, but the level design was unique. It's an interesting note in Nintendo history for sure.

Another anime cliché that never really gets old: whenever there's an old man, chances are that he will be massively badass.

Overused and predictable? Yeah, but it is entertaining nonetheless, especially when said character talks about how he's old and past his prime.

Oh, and about Hudson, it's a shame they went under, especially considering the company that acquired them in the first place and left their IPs unused. You know which company I'm talking about, don't you?

Or a raging pervert. It's a spectrum of extremes.

Funny thing is that my grandfather is exactly the trope you just described. He's in his 70s and constantly jokes about being too old and feeble to do things, but he could floor my ass if he wanted to. He's insane.

The music is so fast and the game is so slow. It's... special, all right.
Nintendo should remake it as DLC for the NSMB games really. I'd like to play these levels.

Anime clichés? ... I love Yaoi anime, but too often are the roles of the two main characters TOO obvious. Handsome, strong, tall Seme (usually famous), and short, feminine, awkward Uke (usually a nobody). Doesn't mean every manga/anime that's like that is bad. But just like how there are billions of Ecchi anime/manga that are 90% identical to eachother, so is it with the Yaoi ones.

Which is why Love Stage is such a great anime. It IS like how I said above, but changes everything up enough to make it stand out, even getting itself a (almost) full anime (10 episodes). Which is impressive since there are less than 5 actual Yaoi animes existing.

... I assume pretty much no one here knows much about the genre, so maybe I am just in the way. -w-

Ya'll better play my new Mario Maker Stage: "The Bowser Escort Mission" !!

Anime cliche's I dislike are just some of the usual stuff.

Men dressed normal, all of the women are strippers.
Hot Spring scene in every anime.
Blushing that's not on the face and the over use of blushing of the face.

What in particular didn't you like about their methods?
That so much of their design philosophy was "Melee did this Melee is infallible make Melee again". People can say that they did their own thing as much as they want, but when you go through the effort to RE-clone Falco and Ganondorf, make Fox and Falco's models their Melee look, and give so many characters's moves their exact Melee animations back for no other purpose than just because Melee did it, it's clear what you're trying to do isn't something original, you just want to make Super Smash Bros. Melee: More! And that's really not a philosophy that I can really support, especially since during it's very very early stages they straight up encouraged people to call it Melee 2.0 (as a callout to the other big Brawl balancing mod at the time, Brawl+, which had asked that it not be called Melee 2.0).

My favorite things the Project M team did was Turbo mode because it was the only thing I saw the Project M team do that stood out to me as trying to do something original and not just Melee rehashing. Costumes and Stages were nice as well, but when there's an entire Brawl modding community that did those and arguably did them better, the impact gets lost fast.

I've played Project M, it's fun, but I've never been able to play it and not feel uncomfortable about what led to it existing. When the idea behind the project is just "why isn't (X game) exactly like (Y game)?!" I can't really get behind it. It'd be like if Street Fighter 5 came out and a bunch of dissatisfied people made a mod to make it more like 4. It puts a bad taste in my mouth.

The dichotomy between recloning characters like Falco while drastically redoing a lot of the Brawl newcomers did always rub me the wrong way.

I really hope we see a Wii U modding team bring back the cut vets at some point. I'm glad modding didn't infringe on DLC, and I don't want a full blown PM style engine tweak, but I would really love to Ice Climbers and whomever else don't make it as DLC eventually join the battle.

I want to make that "still a better love story than Twilight" meme here but I'm honestly not sure about it...
It's not so much a love story. I mean, there's romance, but the whole manga is more focused on action and pretty much a parody of common Japanese media tropes.

It has all the clichés: there's the badass old guy, the protagonist's best friend and rival is (surprise, surprise) a werewolf, there's the tsundere, the hammy villain who wants to destroy the world and so on. They are all played for comedic purposes, with proper exaggeration and plenty of allusions to Japanese pop culture.

The vampire protagonist attempts (and miserably fails) at doing a kamehameha at one point. There's a part where he attempts to fly, imitating Astro Boy. Not to mention the self-aware/meta humor, such as when a character nosebleeds upon seeing a girl and one of the characters pretty much comments something like "lol, this is still a thing?".

That's why I like the manga. It's pretty much making fun of the medium as a whole and doesn't take itself too seriously.

Also, if you guys want some manga and anime that don't rely on cliches and have an original take on certain genres, then all you gotta do is browse the Genre Deconstruction page on TV Tropes

As for anime cliches, why all traps must be shy and innocent and most of the time, moe blobs(I blame my weakness)? I want to see one that can be a manipulating ***** that takes advantage of anyone and everyone they find fhe chance

I think you are thinking of it not from their perspective. Their perspective was recreating the physics they enjoyed and not the one physics and mechanics of Brawl. There's really nothing wrong with wanting to create a basis around the mechanics one enjoys over the other.

As for giving Fox and Falco their Melee look, I'd honestly like to see that in later Smash games. It's not just because it's Melee, it's because the designs are good. It's why Zelda Musou adds all of those outfits of previous Zelda games for characters, people like how they looked then.

Later on a lot of the animations were changed, but the thing with Melee animations is that they generally were designed better compared to how Brawl did them. Most of it really is preference, though. As for Falco getting his shine, that was done specifically to make him better as his typical shine is always going to be better than the Brawl incarnation competitively due to wave dashing and shine spikes.

I've played Project M, it's fun, but I've never been able to play it and not feel uncomfortable about what led to it existing. I think with Street Fighter though the changes usually keep the game competitive, but with Brawl the changes were controversial. You had a game previously that had more control over your character and not just due to Wavedashing and you make it slower, remove hit-stun for the most part, and buff the defensive mechanics and add in stuff like global input lag as well as tripping and then you end up creating this kind of reaction.

Street Fighter wouldn't dream of doing something similar. I'm not saying Brawl is the scum of the earth or anything, but Street Fighter has never done anything so anti competitive for the scene as far as game design before outside of Street Fighter x Tekken, and we saw how that turned out.

I have to say, it does sound kind of interesting, and who am I to deny one of Frosty-sama's recommendations?
But is there an anime of it or at least being worked on? I'm just lazy to read something I could simply watch

There is an anime adaptation, but doesn't adapt the entire manga, which is still ongoing.

It's from 2013 and hasn't seen a sequel. Just 10 episodes AFAIK.

I heard it is a very faithful adaptation of the manga, so you can read the manga from the point the anime ends.

It wasn't just the mandatory Gem System that turned off the system (which is something considering a few of the more powerful Gems were pre-order exclusives and/or paid Disk-locked Content) It was also the fact the game was initially buggy and rushed. Plus the controversy in early March 2012 onwards when the 12 DLC characters were found on disk. It didn't help that whilst Vita users could get the 12 characters for free when they bought Street Fighter X Tekken on the Vita new, players of other consoles did not have the same choice.

New look at the YW toys:

Can't wait to join the fun!
So how well is Yokai-Watch doing in the west?

Those things did, too, but what killed the competitive scene was the gems because when they were mentioned they literally had a video interview where they were not gonna make any changes despite the backlash. The ironic part is it didn't help casual players either as it made the game at a basic level too complex.

I remember the backlash when it was confirmed it was mandatory. It was soon after Lupinko, the guy who leaked the Marvel vs Capcom 3 roster, disconfirmed R. Mika, Karin and Lee Chaolan on NeoGAF and confirmed Bryan Fury, Christie, Elena and Bison.

I wouldn't be surprised if SFxT's backlash is the main reason why Capcom hasn't done a Vs. game in a while.

*TxSF doesn't count as it's being developed by Namco

Some more Nintendo/Hudson Soft facts:

Bomberman is the only third party character to have appeared on EVERY Nintendo console prior to the launch of the Wii U (and the fact that he's not on the Wii U is only because Konami is going to Konami).

The first third-party-developed Famicom peripheral was created in collaboration with Hudson. It was titled Family BASIC and was composed of a cartridge and keyboard for creating games using the BASIC programming language

The very first third party game on a Nintendo console, "Milk and Nuts," was created by, you guessed it, Hudson Soft.

Nintendo's ND Cube studio, which currently works on the Mario Party series, is headed by former Hudson Soft president Hidetoshi Endo. A large portion of their staff are also former Hudson Soft employees.

That's odd. Then why are Mario Party 9 and 10 so drastically different? Why did they feel the need to throw away what they had been doing since the N64?

There is a new Sakurai Famitsu Column.

It's about video game updates in general. Nothing about Cloud in particular per say. He does mention that Cloud was revealed for Smash, and to watch the December Broadcast (nothing else) outside of the actual column. Since the column is still interesting, we will be translating it on Source Gaming, so keep an eye out.

TGA premiers to expect so far:
- Shaq-Fu Reborn
- TMNT by Platinum (not confirmed but it's very possible)
- Far Cry Primal gameplay
- Quantum Break gameplay
- MKX Kombat Pack 2 stuff
- Tomb Raider DLC
- Whatever Nintendo is gonna do
- Oculus "special announcement"

...I can't believe I'm actually gonna watch this
Rip Mega Man
Actually he's right. Bomberman was on the Virtual Boy too :0

Lame that, from what can be inferred, there's no date for the December broadcast. ):
