Remember when Shovel Knight was likely for Smash?

I don't remember either. Just proving your point.
Shovel Knight is an example of a character where his game actually looks awesome, his soundtrack is awesome, the amount of the game I played through was great. . .

But my GOSH his likelihood was overstated by a long shot. Like, to a degree that gave me feelings of Hype Backlash. And this is coming from someone who initially became interested in trying the game after watching a montage in a Nintendo Direct containing it rather than being exposed to any online word of mouth about it.

The worst part was that they kept saying that either him or Shantae should be in as an "Indie Rep." No, I'm sorry, but being Indie should not be the primary reason why you are being included. Let a character win the position on their own merits, not those of their clique movement. If an Indie character is good enough to get in the game by their own merits, then I am MORE than OK with that. But you shouldn't demand special treatment for your character just because they're Indie any more than you should demand special treatment for them because they're made by one non-indie dev or another.

Well, in all seriousness, he is more likely than Ridley...
Ridley talk? I should break out the old vintage, then.

Who's big, purple, and totally a stage?

:troll:

Yeah I know, proportions, but that's a backup argument. Doesn't make it any less funny.

Also Ridley's lucky if he's a parakeet compared to this guy.

I'm imagining a tiny Ridley sqwawking at him.

Then more unpleasant things happened.

Down on the corner, out in the street.
Isn't he (or at least was) the character to recieve the most buffs across all patches, hell, I don't think he's ever gotten a nerf because he was that abysmal
Iirc, :4ganondorf: is sitting at 26 buffs, 2 more than :4marth:.

Also :4marth: has gotten a few nerfs iirc actually. Iirc it was Shield Breaker's shield damage got a decrease or something like that.

Man I just remember hearing it said like on someone's stream of FFX Remastered... or was it during Paper Jam.
Man I don't even know anymore.

You wanna give me a heart attack or something?
No. As scary as it sounds, I think it will probably happen if by some horrible miracle that Federation Force sells well and Sakurai still stands by the fact "LOL Ridley is too big" in the future. That's if he would be responsible for directing the next game.

EDIT: Shoot, you were talking about the TMS post? Yeah, I doubt it would ever happen.

People didn't say characters like Shovel Knight and should get in because they are indie. That isn't what people mean by "Indie rep".

For comparison, Sakurai has flat out said Ryu is in the game as "the fighting game rep", basically being a treat for the competitive fighting game community.

Indies are another sub area of gaming that people feel should be represented in Smash with a playable fighter. Nobody thinks Shovel Knight or any other indie should get in because they are indie. It's more that, they stand perfectly fine on their own merits, but it's not like their inclusion would just be by the numbers either. They have a niche they can fill, and it's likely we would only get one indie rep if we get any. Hence, that's why people say "the indie rep", like how Sakurai called Ryu "the fighting game rep".

You imagine parakeet ridley. I imagine Parrot Ridley.

And that forces me to imagine Hades as a Pirate with a tiny Ridley on his shoulder. you thought Hades was a great villain already, but now imagine him with a pirate voice.

The Uprising sequel we really need.

TMS getting in to Smash would be Corrin X10000000 for me. I cringe at the thought of a reveal trailer for any character in that game.

Also lol at a Federation Force member getting in to Smash. I think Sylux might have a chance because if i'm not mistaken he's in Federation Force.

Man.
I remember that after FNAF he said that a sequel wasn't gonna happen because there wasn't much more he could think of to do with the concept.
And then that 4 is the final game.
This man's a damn dirty liar.
How many part 4: final chapter things are actually the final chapter

Should have given it away man

There's probably thousands of ten year olds that will take a hike to Cawthon's house and torture him until he decides to make another FNAF.

I honestly feel bad for the guy. He accidentally spawned one of the rabid and toxic fanbases around.

I just fought a giant cactus with a moustache that had the ability to exceed the game's maximum damage. I had a guy run around the entire planet just to punch it. Fun times.

Guys it's 5 Nights at Freddy's

Of course they have to hit 5 before they quit.

It's strange where certain YouTube suggestions can take you...

At first it recommended a MP3 playthrough...then after watching that episode it suggested the same guy playing through Other M...
It's actually quite entertaining how much this guy is raging while playing this game...lol

Inb4 Five Nights at Freddy's Smash Wii U hacks.
Believe me, it will happen soon. If we were able to get Foxy and Bonnie in Brawl hacks, they are certainly possible for Smash Wii U beyond Goku (and possibly Shrek).

OK, I'm listening.
Indies are another sub area of gaming that people feel should be represented in Smash with a playable fighter.
So. . .this sounds like it's going back to the "asking for the criteria, not the character" issue.

Nobody thinks Shovel Knight or any other indie should get in because they are indie.
Somehow I have a dreadful feeling that might be putting too much faith in human intelligence.

Indie is defined by who develops a game and fighting game is determined by genre, though. It's more like the discussions the fandom has about "Namco reps" and "Capcom reps" than about having a fighting game character. And the fighting game thing is more like when people ask for Lip or Mallo as "puzzle reps." Granted, I'm not the most fond of either justification, and while they're two different species of logic they both fall under the same genus of using "reps" as justification as countless other qualifications of varying accuracy do (I.E. villain, female, retro, etc.), but they are at least slightly different.

. . .

. . .Well great. I went to look for the article for context and ended up reading articles and article comments about people continuing to be salty about third party characters existing instead. That salt's gonna take a while to wash out of my system. Thanks for continuing to irritate me to no end, fandom, at this rate it's only a matter of time before I blow my top.

I felt that the first FNaF game was great, but that the sequels that followed it diminished in quality pretty quickly.

As much as I like the story and the setting, the series is quite flawed. And I firmly believe that Scott was milking the series as of the 4th entry. And that this game is likely the same case.

He did seem to feel bad about how FNaF World turned out, though. He seemed to honestly want to make a good game and felt that he let himself and his fans down. He's a good man and I still have a lot of respect for him, but at the same time I don't agree with all of his decisions. I didn't agree with the idea of the 4th entry either purely because 3 concluded the main storyline beautifully.

I didn't really like the third game honestly. It seemed awkward and out of place with the others. Maybe because the second had so much action going on all the time and the 3rd is kind of slow and hard to even see the animatronic

The third had some flawed visuals and gameplay, definitely, even if the ideas themselves were good. I did like the direction the story went in, though. For the most part that is.

I liked the second game less because Scott hardly even tried to put effort into the jumpscares that end the game. All of the games lose their scare factor at some point (aside from people who just don't find anything about it to be suspenseful or creepy in the first place) but I felt like this one hardly even tried outside of rare moments like the rare death or start-up screens. It also wears out faster because it gets a big difficulty spike rather early on, it quickly becomes less about horror and suspense and more of a skill and endurance test with it's rapidly increasing hard difficulty.

I have some other qualms with 2, but that was my biggest one.

First game was actually a little piece of genius.

Second game got too hard and gimmicky. Things got chaotic.

Third game had too much emphasis on one thing. Things got boring.

Fourth game had some good new ideas, but things got too routine.

Well, 2 had it's problems but it's my favorite visually.

But 3's jump scares have to be the least scary

I guess in theory that could be freaky, but spring trap is much slower than the "Jump Scares" of the previous games. So, you don't get much of jump. His voice also isn't as loud. It's much slower.

I think Springtrap would be freakier in a different type of game

Compared to Withered Bonnie here, who pulls your camera down quickly with a loud, quick shriek and BAM dead.

. . .Well judging by this poll, Bayonetta was the 27th most popular character and more people hated her than loved her. That said, this fact applies to EVERYONE from the third page onward, up to and including Ridley at number 22, so all things considered she still managed to do. . .not completely terribly.

. . .

. . .I checked from the other end to see which Nintendo character that was even remotely requested was hated the most, and it turns out it's the one non-Tails character idea that I have that isn't just parroting what everyone else says. Thanks guys. Just thanks. I'm totally not one step closer to waking up a supervillain one morning now. :glare:

*EDIT* Oh, even more lovely, Tails has over twice as many hate votes as love votes. . .and ranks lower than both Knuckles and Dr. Eggman. See, I tell you guys there's a reason I feel nervous to so much as mention him half the time. He's number 65, by the way. Which STILL manages to rank over quite a few characters that are requested heavily, but that's more a matter of just how thoroughly shattered this fandom that we even have that many common requests.

*EDIT EDIT*Corrin is sitting there at 116, with quite a predictable situation of four times as many people hating him as loving him. Still two spots above Azura though. Cloud is at 155, with six times as many people hating him as loving him.

There is still a very small number of commonly requested characters below this threshold. It's dwindling, but it's there. It's mostly the Fire Emblem stuff and retros. . .Oh look, there's Anthony Higgins at 261. It's not just FE and retros after all.

So I've been playing pretty much all of FF8 using Zell (AKA the guy who punches things)

Because of FF8's weird equipment system, I have never beeen able to upgrade to a new weapon, so he has been using his base gloves for pretty much the entire game

Only now, nearly 30 hours into the game with Zell nearly being at 9999 HP (max), after grinding some dragons, have I been able to upgrade Zell's weapon. . .and it's his ultimate weapon. Talk about a power spike

Now all I need is a bunch of energy crystals and maloboro tentacles and all 3 of my party will have ultimate weapons

I see what you mean there. My problem with it though is that Withered Bonnie and most of the other animatronics just look out of place in their jumpscares. Brightly lit 2-dimensional animations. Even if the scenes are really quick and the animations are better than those of Springtrap's, it just looks unnatural and out of place to me.

While I find those two to be flawed in different ways, I think the first game got the jumpscares down just right all around. The 4th did them pretty nicely too.

I'll agree with that

Here's an interesting idea.

Do you like villains with soft sides?

Or is a good villain mostly evil?

Or do both work?
