People still play it? :o I only ever played the trial version but it really was a fun game.

:231:
Yeah, people do. Because
1. Not too many dinosaur games out their, and the ones that are require PC graphics of lot of people's can't handle.(In case you couldn't tell with the lack of water reflection in that recording.)

2. Modding. Lots and lots of modding, and it's very easy. There's even a mod that makes the entire game look visually better, but my laptop can't handle it.

Then again, I do find myself playing stuff that's "old" but not old and surprisingly has an obscure fanbase that continues on. Such as M.U.G.E.N. Which can actually be very awesome if you know what works well, what's good and what isn't. Even though I had to do a lot of programming because of mistakes authors make with their creations....

Welp. Here's a new SG Discussion video for ya'll.

And yes, you get to hear my sexy voice for the first time.
You sound a lot like some other YouTuber, but I can't recall who right now...actually, I might be thinking of someone from a Skype group I used to be on.

In terms of the topic, all I really want to see from Smash NX is one substantial new mode, like an Adventure Mode. A story with cutscenes would be nice, but I can do without that. I essentially just mean something like a Mario game where you have a good 40 or so stages to play through to make it towards a simple end goal. I don't think that's too unreasonable as a lot of existing assets can be used to construct stages, enemies are done for Smash Run and making new models is just a matter of adding subdivision surface multipliers and better textures, and they have at least a year to make it if you assume they started this around when Smash DLC was finishing up (I would reckon they started the port earlier than that though, if it's really coming).

There's also a couple of smaller things I would like, such as adding Special Smash and amiibo online support. Something more to do with amiibo would be nice too. I think they could be integrated really well into an Adventure Mode actually, letting you play as a custom character you build up and level up as you progress, and then take that to a friend's house. It's basically the Skylanders/Smash Bros mash-up that I think amiibo really needs. They wouldn't be mandatory to play the mode though, just an option for those with an amiibo figure.

I wouldn't even need new characters honestly, because I think the roster is fine and it's spoiling us as is. The only one I would EXPECT is Ice Climbers since they're literally already finished.

Judging by similar "port-quels" from the past that I personally adore, like Dissidia 012 and Hyrule Warriors Legends, I really don't think these requests are that unreasonable and are more than do-able within a year's time span. And it would be enough to warrant a purchase for myself and a lot of other people. Especially the amiibo community, people are dying for a big game to use all of the amiibo with in a satisfactory way.

There was a mod porting those models to Zoo Tycoon 2, iirc. I enjoyed that one.

Is that a dinosaur-only Zoo Tycoon type game?!

. . .Aw, you guys are saying only high spec computers can handle it and I have a laptop. . .

. . .You know what, who cares. Maybe there's a way I can set this without crashing my computer or something. If all else fails, I can just rest easy knowing this EXISTS.

What is this game called???? Is it called the title of your video, or something else?

Jurassic Park Operation Genesis.
It's a very old game, actually. 2004 or something. Your laptop will run it just fine.

EDIT: And glad to see another Zoo Tycoon fan here. :b:

I THOUGHT it looked very distinctly Jurassic Park-y. Can you buy it off of any download markets like Steam or is it disc-only?

And yeah, I'm not any good at it, but I grew up with Zoo Tycoon since long before I even had any Nintendo games, so I definitely have fond memories.

It's not on steam. I've only played the trial version myself, as that is available everywhere.

No no, not at all. It's an older game. I'm saying I play it because most other dinosaur games are too high powered for my laptop.

The game is called Jurassic Park Operation Genesis. And nowadays you can just download it free, but you just got to know where, though it's very easy.

And there'e WAY more dinosaurs than what was shown in the video. That was just a small portion of the recording.

And I'm using the movie canon mod. For dinosaur skins and noises.(And other stuff, such as starting with 65 million dollars and being able to sue all the dinosaurs in one save file.) For an example, this T-rex.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YnOQVrTLfIg
(Also, it looks much better for me in game.)

Someone needs to make a good game in the style of those someday.

There's a couple knockoffs on Steam, but they all seem to have a far lower animal count than the actual games and none of the cool stuff like the dinos, marine life, and the odd fantasy creature you could find in the first game.

For now I guess we type Xanadu as the exhibit name, plunk those statues into an aquarium, and dream of a better world where you can build giant Jurassic Park style aviaries full of griffins and dragons.

*Cries in corner*

I remember going to the Zoo Tycoon 2 website and the poll being about mythical creatures. I was so excited... then nothing happened.

At least we still have the Mermaids. *Cries harder*

I don't think there have been any particularly popular or big ones after Zoo Tycoon 2.
MS did release new Zoo Tycoon in 2013, but it's a shadow compared ZT2 and is not even on PC (basically suicide).

Well, ZT2 has enough mods to more than make up for it.

I remember wanting to install mods, but my eleven-year old mind could not comprehend such things.

Although, the Yeti and Bigfoots (Bigfeet?) were fun in the original.

I almost forgot: when I bought the :4falco: amiibo last week at Best Buy, the receipt included free download codes for both 3DS & Wii U versions of Mini Mario & Friends: amiibo Challenge.

Since I already own it on both systems, anybody want them? Free of Charge. First come first serve.

Just note that you need at least one amiibo to play either version.
Am I too late? :p

Apparently the reason why it went sour is because Blue Fang and Microsoft had a falling out.

I watched a video of someone starting the Xbox game they handed to another dev the last time I saw this discussed, and it seemed like it was designed largely to push the Kinect gimmick and then promptly had that fact covered up by sheer graphics. It looks pretty enough, but at the very least the tutorials I watched seemed like they were dwelling pretty hard on the Kinect for a huge chunk of what they were doing.

At any rate, I hope someone in the indie crowd someday gets the idea to make a spiritual successor that actually bothers to include the coolest stuff.

I'm not sure if an Indie dev can actually develop a game like this. There is a absolutely massive amount of stuff to program in a zoo simulation game.

The best we can hope for is some company to release a base engine for others to develop on. Something like the Unreal Engine. And that is unlikely.

Slight pet peeve of mine I want to share...

People asking for an amiibo for everything without any specific functions in mind.

Seriously, everything doesn't have to be an amiibo.

Like, I just saw someone suggest the idea that Nintendo make a "Smash Classics" line - amiibo of all the cut veterans in the Smash series.

But literally what would be the point in doing that? There's no real value if the chip doesn't have at least one major function tied to the game it represents.

If they add Wolf and Young Link and whatever other cut veterans into the next iteration of Smash, be that a brand new game or an updated and remixed port of Smash Wii U/3DS, then by all means, make amiibo for them, since they would likely have a guaranteed function that way.

But there is no point if they don't do anything. Heck, I would say the Pokémon characters, Wolf, and Young Link, all stand a chance of getting amiibo as part of their own franchises at some point. Especially Young Link, since the Legend of Zelda amiibo series has technically already started with Wolf Link.

I mean, if you want merchandise of these characters, all of them except Ice Climbers and Wolf have plenty of merchandise like figures and plushies already. For example, Young Link, Snake, and the past Pokémon characters sans Pichu, all have Nendoroids.

And even if you just want new figures of them, just ask for those and show interest in them. amiibo aren't the only kind of merchandise Nintendo makes and licenses.

It's safe to assume that amiibo will be compatible with the NX right?
It's Nintendo's most profitable endeavour in the past 2 years.

And Zelda Wii U is confirmed to have amiibo support, and the NX is basically confirmed to have a Zelda Wii U port.

They should follow in Yokai Watch's footsteps and release "Amiibo 2.0's"

Or, I guess Skylanders is the more appropriate comparison

Thing is, (most) amiibos have a rather good combination of cost, quality and availability. High quality figures tend to more expensive or just unavailable.

I mean, I get both sides. They're likely asking for amiibo specifically, as opposed to another type of figure, so their collection seems more homogeneous. Like, having these roughly-four-inch tall figures on little bases next to a three foot tall Waluigi statue might be off-putting for many. An extreme example, of course, but I needed an excuse to pitch a three-foot-Waluigi-statue idea.

Though I just shook my head at the "Smash Classics" idea. Even if some consumers may be willing to forego usage and function, Nintendo isn't. In other words, I can see why someone would want this, but I also, even more clearly, see why Nintendo would never do this. It goes against what amiibo are supposed to be in the first place.

But seriously, whenever I wish a certain character had an amiibo, I try to think of its possible usage as much as possible, especially after the post-purchase regret I've had with some of my amiibo. Like, I'd love a Starfy amiibo, because it'd be so easy to use it as a way to bring the other Starfy games overseas: have the amiibo sell the games (which unlike Zip Lash actually had good reviews, so that might spike sales) in one Legacy Collection-type package. Include challenge levels that the amiibo unlocks. Basically Shovel Knight, Twilight Princess HD, and MMLC's method, which seemed to work really well.

In some cases but not in all cases. There is plenty of Nintendo merch that's got that same combination. Truckloads of it if it's Pokémon you want. Mario, Zelda, and Kirby are pretty plentiful. In general, I recommend World of Nintendo figures if you want figures that are in the same price/quality range as amiibo. They release even more frequently than amiibo these days. They're also poseable and come with accessories.

And that still doesn't change the fact that people can just ask "can I get a figure of this character?", even in a similar "on a base" style that amiibo uses, without actually being one.

Can we (Just for fun), rate Smash Bros. characters in FighterGeneration way? If you don't know what FightersGeneration is, it's a website about (You guessed it) FIghting games with News, introductions, and Character rating from other franchises.
He rates them on Moveset, Personality, Appearance, and Effectiveness to the series, then gives an overall score to the character, and has a summary with it.

For example:
Guile:
Moveset: 4.5/5
Personality:4.5/5
Apperance:4.5/5
Effectiveness: 5/5
Overall score: 4.5/5

Let's us do that, but with smash bros characters since he does not do those characters.

Interesting fact

Jakks Pacific was created by the same person that made "LJN"

I normally don't do arbitrary ratings like this, but what the heck.

:rosalina:

Moveset: 4/5 (They could have referenced her spin attack and I think they could have made something much more fitting for the Final Smash, but everything else is fine)

Personality: 4.5/5 (Pretty much spot on, and even added some flair with the "crazy yandere face" she does, and the confirmed detail of her not feeling or caring about the "damage" she takes. My only gripe is that she doesn't have enough phrases and quotes, which is a side effect of them re-using Kerri Kane's voice clips. She's the Rosalina voice actress with the least voice clips that are actual phrases)

Appearance: 4.5/5 (Normally I would say "pure perfection", but she's a little shorter than canon in Smash, and a bit more spindly, and her models from later games are more detailed so they spoil me. Though I love the literal universe up her gown, that's some gratifying power fantasy stuff right there)

Effectiveness: 5/5 (She's literally got the highest skill ceiling in the game, and is a literal top tier in competitive play, so I don't even need to explain this one really. She's also just as powerful in FFAs and with items due to her Down B and Final Smash being especially effective in those situations, plus her Final Smash is literally the strongest move in the game, including boss attacks. Also Luma provides some unique traits, like having an easy way to attack Ghastly in Smash Run. Rosalina is just one of the best characters in this game in EVERY context, not just a competitive one)

Overall: 4.5/5 (It was my most commonly used score in the different categories, sooo...)
