I can see why Nintendo decided to go for something more unique with Paper Mario Color Splash, honestly it seems like they are trying their best to not make it just an average RPG.

Just caught the direct.
Mostly pretty good, but it's all overshadowed by one thing.

They screwed up Paper Mario.
THEY SCREWED UP PAPER MARIO AGAIN.
3 ******* times in a row. Why are they such imbeciles? They have a winning formula and avoid it like the plague.

Sonic Syndrome in action. Though I'd argue for SUPER on it at least having the story in tact and Peach, Bowser and Luigi still bringing personality to it.

Well, as 2D Sonic games have shown, Eggman is about as acrobatic as Sonic.

He's just a really good jumper.

Still, the hell kind of Ping-Pong shot requires you to go that high?
Then again if Knuckles and Bowser can have a boxing match mid-air and nowhere near each other I guess anything is possible.

I need it. Like, right now, I need this game in my hands now. I don't care if it's not going to release today just give it to me.

Kirby is Mega Man X confirmed. Now he just needs a Mega Man X Copy ability and BAM!

Also, if the Doctor Copy ability doesn't make him toss pills, I'm going to be VERY disappointed.

All jokes aside, the new Kirby looks very interesting. Can't say I expected him to start riding badass mechs, complete with their own Copy abilities. And SMASH Kirby is making a return. I don't have a Amiibo, but it's still pretty cool that they actually remembered that power. I'm kinda hoping that there will be other methods to obtaining it besides Amiibo, like maybe a Master Hand miniboss somewhere. And did I see Kirby riding a mech with JET POWER?! If so, that makes me very happy. The only thing that could make this better is if Fighter Kirby is still here, I can only imagine what his mech would do with the Fighter Copy ability. Cue the incoming superpowered Hadoken.

I'm still very much interested in Star Fox Zero. It seems a bit less linear than I expected, which is good, more planets to explore in the Lylat System is always welcome. But I'm still on the fence about the style of control they have for the game. I mean, I'm sure I can adapt to it but I'm still hoping like hell that Nintendo will allow for a classic style of control.

I intend to pay close attention to how Monster Hunter Generations turns out. Though I'm still a bit bothered by the fact that it's another 3DS title. The Wii U is struggling enough already, and the lack of good games for it isn't helping. I've also heard concerns that it might split the player base between the two games. But we'll see what happens. I just hope that the series doesn't become handheld-exclusive from this point on.

Federation Force is looking a bit better than the last time it was shown, though I never had anything against it to begin with. Depending on how it turns out I may consider a purchase.

We were all hoping for a new Paper Mario, and we got it, but not quite what we were hoping for. It looks like Nintendo is still fixated on gameplay changes(it's been like this since Super Paper Mario), and not necessarily for the better. I won't say it's a bad game yet. I've played SS quite a bit and while I think it's a pretty good game, it's not Paper Mario good. Paper Mario made its name as an RPG, and it really isn't much like an RPG anymore. I might get it, I just hope for Nintendo's sake that it turns out better than SS.

The game that caught my eye the most is Azure Striker Gunvolt 2. I had a lot of fun with the original, and it's good to see it finally surface some more. And Copen's not dead it seems, instead making his debut as a playable character. Now I'm wondering if he'll have his own story, or if he's just an extra.

All in all it was a pretty good Direct, there's quite a bit for me to look forward to.

This box art looks cool, though Mario's mouth is making me uncomfortable for some reason.

There is nothing unique about what they showed. At all. Any new things are totally superficial(It's a hammer, but now it changes things color!). It just looks and seems to play just like Sticker star, and the plot is taken from kirby games.

I won't go into full details but for example, in Japan, Mario Kart 8 had a pre-order bonus with playing cards.

Mario was the King card.
Rosalina was the Queen card.

He went from an identifiable character to an excuse to suck any creativity out of a game. Nothing but Toad NPCs in the RPGs, NSMB is Mario Luigi and TOADS, Toads are always handling any big event... I mean Captain Toad is an exception, but seriously, I like the little guy, why do they want me to think otherwise...?

Yeah I think the knee-jerk reaction to Color Splash is a little unwarranted. At least wait until we get more information before declaring the series dead.

As for the game itself I'll have to wait and see. I'm not a Paper Mario purist since I only played Super Paper Mario to completion, but I love it. Partly because of it's story and characterisation.

If they bring back the Peach from that game then I will at least be interested. :V
The colour mechanic looks cool for exploration but I am worried about how it will be in battles.

Not often I say this but PMCS legitimately brought the presentation down for me. I can understand going over the weird eshop games that "nobody" cares about, but knowing that they decided to make a PMSS sequel physically hurts me.

SF0 still looks good hope Guard doesn't bump up the price though, MFF looks okay, Waifu Emblem the Musical is somehow still being localized, Kirby's always great, and I basically got my dream announcement for Gunvolt 2, so it's not all bad I guess. But dang am I bummed with PMCS.

There's more trailers up on Nintendo's channel, too. Proper Gunvolt 2 trailer, the MHxFE trailer, and SF0 and MFF trailers last I checked.

(Eggman's horrible redesign for instance, or the boring as hell hub that had little to no reason to be there, the art direction of super cartoony animals in a "realistic" environment, etc)

Personally even though Thousand Year Door is a good game, I feel like the series has more potential than just being a standard RPG and I appreciate that Intelligent Systems wants to be different with Color Splash, but I don't think Splash is something that's going to really define the spinoff series.

The thing that really bothered me about PMCS is it's battle system which is a serious turnoff having to paint things or whatever. The overworld of the game looks really goofy and weird though I could overlook that if the game's battle system wasn't so messed up.

You'd think Niny would pull all the stops to have a good PM game when their last game was a massive disappointment in the series to a lot of their fans and that this could potentially be the last big Wii U title being released.
