I'm glad that R.O.B. got in Brawl. I didn't even know about him, but thought he was awesome! And to this day, I'm still a R.O.B. and always will be for as long as he's in the game. He's a character who's earned his right to stay, and will be one I will forever be a fan of!

I only knew about ROB because one day during the N64 era my dad randomly came over and got me some NES games he got cheap, including Gyromite, which intrigued me but I couldn't figure out how to play.

I eventually got it on a rom and "figured out how to play it" because I had accidentally mapped first and second player to the same controls. I enjoyed it quite a bit and even made a sprite comic of it, which I never posted online and don't have any of the resources for anymore.

Edit: It's the reason ROB was on my most wanted characters list for the melee era, although I had him teamed up with professor Hector

I don't wanna go naming names and stuff like that and making a big fuss. Just wanted to briefly vent.

But it's not that strange as I've been saying it for a while now. Even before I got banned from it (twice, for silly reasons), I was not using it that much, as it became mostly filled with the same users who always said and talked about the same things. Mostly complaining about "Modern Rosalina" (as if there is such a thing) and her new voice actress being "horrendous" (as if you can really do that - Rosalina has only ever gotten grunts, one-liners, and the like, not full dialogue), complaining about how she's being used in games, whining that Rosalina "isn't that good in competitive play" and getting angry at me when I try to help them get better and utilise the character's potential, and getting mad at me because I don't worship Dabuz as the lord and saviour of Rosalina players in Smash.

Like it's literally just been a rotation of those topics for the last few months, caused by the same people.

And you can't seem to have any discussion even when you get a break from that stuff because the moderator of the Rosalina boards kills any sort of discussion (even outside of the social) if there is even remote differences in opinion, and even if it's civil, making it really hard to even TALK about anything (hence the thread is so dead - it's lucky to make 1-3 pages in a week).

The overall attitude is just incredibly negative to everything there, even towards the character it's supposed to be supportive of, and it's hard to start any real discussion without someone acting all high and mighty and trying to piss people off (one of the users even took to insulting me for engaging in a discussion, RIGHT after I presented them with an art piece they requested of me, which I spent a good bit of time on), and babbling nitpicky, unsubstantiated nonsense. And when you call that **** out? You get banned from posting there. Literally, the reason why I was banned from there the second time was because I called out someone's poor points on something very civilly. They reacted poorly, and started getting whiny and confrontational, and then I got banned. I was told it was because I was "starting arguments", even though I never do, I've only called out misinformation and poor points on occassion, and then other people get pissy at me for it (and again, it's the same people). I have been nothing but positive there for as long as I can muster, but the negativity and nonsensical nitpicking and what not, is so rampant now that it's impossible to socialise there.

I seriously think it's become one of the worst social threads, if not the worst. It's dead, and when it has activity, it's people complaining about stuff or trying as hard as possible to alienate people.

But yeah, that was my go to place for Rosalina talk and what not in the past, but it's too far gone to really use now. I will probably just revert to being more of a closet Rosalina fan now. Being an open one doesn't seem worth the effort anymore, especially since I've got more going on in my life these days.

Brawl era indeed had it's pretty controversial moments back when the full roster was revealed. It was pretty similar to when the full roster of Smash 4 was revealed. I believe the same thing happened with Melee as well.

I was very happy when I found out that Toon Link was included though as he was my most wanted character for Brawl. But yeah, out of all characters, R.O.B., Wolf and Toon Link probably received the most salt in that order....

Yeah it's a bit ironic how one of the main complaints of Wolf's inclusion was that the Starfox franchise didn't "deserve" three reps and thus was "overrepped" but now it apparently deserves three characters even though the series didn't receive much activity between Brawl and Smash 4 other than a 3D remake (which apparently didn't do that well from what I've heard). It is finally getting a new game though, but back before Brawl it did have a fair bit more activity...

Other than that, most of Wolf's complaints also came from his Final Smash as well as from a lot of angry Krystal supporters (likewise with Toon Link but with Midna instead), it's interesting to know though that apparently Toon Link and Wolf where pretty popular requests in Japan....

A lot of people seem to be in denial at the hatebases that the various cut characters had and just how close they were to the reactions of today, and I think it would do the fandom good to have a full collection of examples to link back to that could potentially cause people to realize just how similar their own attitudes are to ones that they might potentially find ridiculous.

Considering Roy had to be one of the top 5 most requested characters prior to E3 2013 (At least in terms of topping polls) and constantly got fanart during the time he was cut, I'm not even questioning it. Cutting a FE character has already resulted in a "be careful what you wish for" backlash scenario as evidenced by how an Awkward Zombie comic serves as a time capsule for people speculating Roy's cutting, and it's only going to happen again with not a single lesson learned.

The rest of my team atm is Dweeble who I use against Psychic and Flying types, Gothita who I'm using cos I love, Mincinco who has Cure Charm and not Skill Link so useless and Vanilite who I should probably grind for Gym 8.

I'm really hoping of a Joltik. I know I already have a Bug type but I love Galvantula.

Pauline, Stanley the Bugman, and (as much as I don't really want to say it) DK Jr.

We only have three viable Donkey Kong COUNTRY characters. The possibility of Nintendo slipping in a character from the side of the franchise that gave it all of it's pop culture representation and a huge chunk of it's sales as a retro representative ala Duck Hunt Dog technically still exists.

I'd lean towards Pauline due to her being in the game that actually accomplished this and put Nintendo on the map, but I know the other two have their own support bases that shouldn't be left out.

I don't see why Donkey Kong content should be limited to Country. We have 75m (as much as everyone hates that stage), so classic DK content is at least a possibility.

I wouldn't be too surprised if we got DK jr one day. He seems like one of the more notable retro characters from the Arcade/NES era next to the likes of R.O.B. and Duck Hunt etc (Other than the original Donkey Kong though) and he still shows up to this day, mainly in retro remixes and the Pushmo/Pullblox series though. There's also Balloon Fighter and a few others though.

I don't know.

Veterans don't have code ported over.

Each Smash game is built from the ground up, and in Smash 4's case especially, it's developed in part by a third party studio.

Actually I think you may be right. I think some of Brawl's coding was just taken from Melee. Makes sense, as the Wii is basically an overclocked Gamecube in terms of it's architecture.

But I recall Sakurai specifically mentioning that Smash 4 is built from scratch because the architecture of the Wii U and 3DS differs too much from past consoles. He said that Melee especially had some very outdated coding that couldn't be ported over, which was why Mewtwo ended up taking so long and didn't make it into the initial roster.

So, I downloaded FE6 because I need something to play on my phone
I'm on chapter 3 now and I'm already disappointed with this game
It did a pretty ****ty job on estabilishing anythong and anyone and I only understand anything because I played 7
I don't know why Roy is doing what he's doing and he has been a bland ****ing lord
I have received no reason to like any of the characters sp far, Chad came out of nowhere and almost everyone has a terrible design
I only like Merlinus and Marcus because of 7, but I doubt I would if I started from this game
I know Wolt is important cause he has a bow named after him in Awaksning so that's something
The Cavaliers have nice designs but are more bland than Roy somehow

Dieck has an unfortunate name and **** design

You could see in the first Brawl trailer that Kirby had his old Melee side special and Link apparently also had some animations from Brawl in early footage of Smash 4. The capsule item Villager pocketed during his introduction also was the same version from Brawl rather than it's redesign.

I think they do port over certain assets from a previous game in order to speed up development a little until the newer assets are finished for use. Lucario and Diddy Kong also had their Brawl battle portraits during the April Direct for example.
