Honestly, I wasn't really impress by the moveset of Cloud: it seemed quite generic. Sword slash, sword projectile slash, up and down slash and other slash stuff. Maybe it was because the video was laggy. Please prove me wrong. He's still worth the hype thought.

He build anothers swordman character taking moves from what he already had and a new mechanic to the character seems fresh.

Brawl played it safe with the newcomers that there were few surprises.

SSB4, on the other hand... wow! So many unexpected and unconventional newcomers. and now Cloud!!

Villager and Pac-Man were not surprises.

Anyone who knew Namco-Bandai was involved in development knew Pac-Man was inevitable.

And the only surprising part about the Miis was how they were implemented.

I'm really one of those "don't know what I want" fans
I wanted Palutena but her end result disapointed me
I hated Pac-Man and Cloud but after their reveals I ended up in love with them

Basically, here are my thoughts about the future:

Cloud is a parallel to Lucas in that he gets announced prior to his release by a month or so. Come December, we'll also get our Roy equivalent in Wolf, as well as the last pre-ballot character (guessing Inkling, and that the extra slot was added due to Splatoon's success).

I then expect them to say the ballot choice, but not release them yet. IMO, this could be K. Rool. Then I think we might be done.




Just a working theory, but it seems like it could work.

Congrats to all you Cloud fans. I for one am excited.

But at the same time, am disappointed. Do we really need another Anime Swordsmen?

Direct was pretty underwhelming IMO.

However, I do prefer Swordsmen for Smash 4, so I may pick up Cloud.

Bro. This is Cloud Strife. From Final Fantasy 7.

Cloud is the literal embodiment of Final Fantasy as a series. Cloud is one of the most iconic characters in gaming, primarily appearing on Sony consoles. Quite the shocker.

He's got a huge, amazing sword, he's ridiculously hype (SE fans like myself are rejoicing at this; he's no Kidd Zeal but I'm thrilled), he wasn't leaked, and very few people saw this coming. In a way, while many expected Inklings, we got something incredible.

While he may just be "another anime swordsman", he's also perhaps one of the biggest of them all. If I'd have anyone from Square, it'd be him. His status alone as a character is major.

And you know, we also got a Smash teaser for December. And judging by what we got with this little teaser, imagine what's in store.

I'd wager those two announcements alone were insanely hype and exceeded my expectations.

In "Rate Their Chances: DLC Edition", we rated Terra Branford from Final Fantasy VI. I made this statement that day:

If Square Enix weren't so stingy and we were to get a Final Fantasy character, it would certainly be the more iconic Black Mage. (There's also Cloud Strife, but he hasn't appeared on a Nintendo platform outside of cameos, so he's out of the question.)

Actually, Cloud has been in Nintendo systems since the GBA. He even appeared in recent 3DS games

We may not be able to consider Cloud "pre-ballot", but we can easily assume he was planned before the ballot was over. The litigation required to get the rights to Cloud and to have him this far along in development doesn't happen in a month's time.

Not to mention character development takes considerable time. He was definitely planned a long time ago.

All of them also ware considered a "butchering" of the originals by Kojima himself, funny enough. The only game you can really give him is Ghost Babel, and nobody remembers Ghost Babel. Not to mention he used his MGS2 suit with MGS3 head, neither games being on a Nintendo platform at the time. All in all, Sakurai just does what he wants. Noone can stop him.

I'm not assuming that. I was only stating that Cloud must've been planned before the ballot was over. I did state that we couldn't necessarily consider him "pre-ballot" even though he was planned and developed before the deadline. I someone who K.Rool is is most wanted, I don't understand why there is rage against Cloud. Sure, I find is moveset pretty generic, but he is CLOUD, so I think that is inclusion is pretty cool. Congrat to his fan again.
Plus, I don't see at all how he could hurt his chances. more than that costume.The worst part aout this is that a lot of people in the K.Rool thread are really angry about this.

Lloyd was literally the only other Namco character that had decent support and it wasn't as big as Pac-Man's.
