So who'd betting the December thing coming up has more characters? I'm not because the odds as so stupidly high the pay-off wouldn't be worth the effort of making the bet in the first place.

I highly doubt SE would say no to the most popular character they own, they still copyright claimed a video for using Cloud's hair after all...

I'd hate to be a negative nancy, but Cloud dissapoints me.

1. His game has never been on a Nintendo system. Yes, he's been in some of the Kingdom Hearts side-games that were on Nintendo, but the main game he is from hasn't. Now, it's always possible they will release the Final Fantasy VII HD remake on NX, and this is meant to signify that, but I don't know. They wouldn't announce it until they announce the NX itself.

2. All the other 3rd party characters have had a lot of importance to the video game industry as a whole. Pac-Man is Pac-Man. Mega Man is one of the platforming pioneers, and one of the first big third parties to be close to Nintendo. Sonic is Nintendo's first real competition. Ryu is probably THE pioneer of the fighting genre, and without him Smash probably wouldn't exist. Cloud is from an amazing and popular game, but that game didn't have that much of a significant impact on the gaming industry. Didn't Sakurai himself say that being a third party was special, and a third party character has to really deserve it? Yes, yes he did.

These two things combined really tick me off with Cloud's inclusion.

Yeah...Being a third party is special. I mean, Cloud is special and is a famous character in video game history so he does deserve it.

The third party roster is amazing and I was one of those that didn't want many third parties in the beginning.

Dude. While I can't argue the first thing, I really think you're underselling how much of a game changer Final Fantasy VII was.

I knew the silent majority would influence the vote. I just didn't think it would work so well.

Though there's probably some FF7 remake cross promotion in there too.

In other words, Cloud is the new Snake.

But still, I am too busy getting hyped for Cloud and I never played his game (wonder if my boyfriend did?). I am just happy that we finally have Final Fantasy represented in Smash!

Now if they will represent Castlevania... Simon Belmont please!

It’s not going to be anyone and everyone.

Smash is a game that’s made from everyone’s effort.

  1. Both companies have to want the character to join the battle.
I need them to let me take charge of the character.

In order to fit the character into the world of Smash, I need them to allow me some artistic license.

  1. The character must carry game history with them.
Besides that, it might be something like a courtesy to include a character who has the experience of being on a Nintendo platform.

Bolded being the relevant point. Smash is at a point where it's less about Nintendo History and more about Video Game History when it involves 3rd parties.

I should be studying the footage to see what his moveset actually is but I can't stop laughing that Smash got Cloud over PSASBR. And if that game ever gets a sequel I just KNOW the Squeenix character will be Lightning.

I was half right. That the newcomer prediction would all be wrong because Sakurai is very unpredictable

But I did NOT expect Cloud to be in Smash Bros at all hahaha. A shocking surprise, yet... despite my words on him... Sakurai did it right!

Judging by the lack of ballot talk in the Direct I'm assuming this was pre-ballot. Mind you, characters do take time. It's perfectly reasonable that this was months in advance.

The December Smash Direct will most likely bring it up and our candidates.

I'm... really... I don't give a single ***** anymore.

"Nintendo All-Star" they sold me... New character don't even have to be in a Nintendo console game.
I'm expecting Yasuo from League of Legends to me really quit already.
Maybe I will be better tomorrow, but today...
And Sakurai Shulked us...
He build anothers swordman character taking moves from what he already had and a new mechanic to the character seems fresh.

This is likely. The litigation required to get the rights to Cloud makes this being a ballot decision unlikely, unless it's simply ballot influenced from early in it's life. Something like this doesn't just happen in a month.
