These two quote are rather interesting.

Sakurai: there are only so many big-name titles we can work with at this point—mainly because we’ve covered most of those bases. Aside from the major globally-recognized franchises already featured in Smash, there really aren’t that many left.

Sakurai: At the same time, gamers from that generation (80's and 90's) probably already have all the characters they could want. Mega Man has also joined the fray, so there might not be anyone left.

First off look at how he says "major globally-recognized franchises". I've been saying this for a while, but it seems that Sakurai wants to add characters from franchises that are popular and recognized worldwide. That's why I see characters like Lara Croft, Rayman, Scorpion, etc. to be rather unlikely due to the lack of popularity and awareness of those franchises in Japan.

Secondly he believes we're running out of older worldwide big name franchises to pull characters from and I agree to an extent. He considered adding a Tekken character in the past, but said it'd be difficult to make it fit in well, so it might not happen.

Another thing; based on this quote.

Sakurai: Final Fantasy is one of the few uniquely Japanese game series revered by players around the world"

and the fact that all of the 3rd party characters have been from Japanese games, I get the impression that Sakurai only pays attention to Japanese game series, so I don't think he's really considering a character like Crash.

I feel Dragon Quest and Resident Evil are our best options, but will Sakurai find a character worth adding? The iconic character of Dragon Quest is the Slime, but would Sakurai wanr to add such a generic enemy?

With Resident evil they'd probably go for someone like Jill, but a big part of her arsenal is the realistic guns/bullets and knives, so if you get rid of the knife and all the guns, all you're really left with are grenade and rocket launchers. She might be able to summon creatures from RE, but they'd have to include them without boosting the age rating.

Castlvania is pretty big though even compared to Megaman it's kind of down there on the list of major franchises. Still though, I think it could be seen as big enough to warrent a character inclusion, and I see Simon Belmont as a good choice, but the biggest issue is probably getting Konami to cooperate with them, same goes for other Konami characters.

I think in the future there will be less of a focus on getting classic iconic characters and we'll end up seeing characters from more recent years, charactets that are growing in popularity; preferably characters with a close tie with Nintendo like Bayonetta. I could easily see Professor Layton get in, but that's just me.

Anyone else want to give their thoughts?

Also, I read all of the Sakurai interviews.

If these are his last Smash 4 ones, then I guess I'll never find out Sakurai's real reason for including Rosalina, or any elaboration on how he came up with her. I mean I have educated guesses that I have confidence in but I'd love to hear it from him.

I could see Dragon quest and final fantasy to.

However, according to information we've been given from a solid source, it would appear that Nintendo and EA are looking to put the past behind them and hop back into bed with one another.

After Battlefield Star Wars edition was the dissapointment I expected, the only EA game I care for is Mirror's Edge.


Any positive news for NX is positive news for me though.

I had to fight him three times. On the third time I made sure no stars were gambled. Even on 1 star difficulty I couldn't do it! (used the best CPU I could think of - Jeanne with Salamandra & I think it was one of the swords)

EA kind of have a point.
Nintendo's advertising is currently all over the place. The Pokemon Superbowl ad was a step in the right direction but they need to keep that going with other major sporting events.

I don't care for much of EA's content outside of Mass Effect but they're a third party a console needs alongside Activision because of the broad audience of their games.
