Reminder that I actively limited myself to the 30-ish character range, for whatever reason.

Assassin's Creed, yes, is undeniably huge. But Ezio himself was my point of ambiguity. A Minecraft - Steve? scenario where the game's far more known than the character.

Hitman I've just never thought as being a big series. Probably my ignorance. It's just... not a series name I ever saw tossed around a lot, y'know?

Well, Ezio's easily the most known Assassin's Creed protagonist. That was the reasoning.
As for Hitman, IDK, it's been around for a long time and has always been rather successful?

I can dig it...props for actually remembering Samus (almost everytime I see one of these they always seem to forget her)

Also you have 'C' list ones like Bayonetta or Agent 47 or Pyramid Head whatever the last two are too, nice. (imo it splits to three)

I guess if you could add someone then: "The Sim" or Freeman. Maybe even that Shenmue guy or someone from a Warriors game.

Agent 47 and Ezio are the odd ones out, to me.
ONLY having two "oddballs" like that is a damn good thing.

Really? Main/Most Recognizable character of the AC? He is the Cloud of Assassins Creed, and that franchise is huge.

Also, I can't figure out why the Alone in the dark movie is set in modern times. The games were set in like the early 1900 or something.

It's a D lister to me. It's as high as any indie except Minecraft who isn't an indie anymore will ever go on my list.

I can NEVER recognize any Silent Hill characters but always the game itself. I know how big it is. Nevermind, Pyramid Head is B lister indeed.

Would Touhou be classified as iconic in some regard? Of course, this is a doujin series (Sorta like the indie market, but a lot of the content is fan made or made by small teams) and mainly has a huge impact in Japan, so there probably would be quite a bit of confusion from the west. Very unlikely that we'd see a character like Reimu make it in to Smash, but I guess Touhou has seen success that many indie/doujin franchises would dream for. Having 15 main games and lots of spin-offs, music and interesting characters... Just putting thoughts out since I like the series.

But he's not a kind of icon.
Cave Story stands as one of the first real examples of an indie game making a big hit on the internet as something more than like a newgrounds flash game.
But he's stuck as that one game that's been re-released in two forms.
And... the game never went viral on par of Minecraft or even things like The Binding of Isaac (or is TF2 a better example?).
Cave Story is the big indie game that got the door open for people to come.
But that is what it is. A relic to respect.

Man.
I've been largely underwhelmed by the Pokemon Villains post Rocket.
Aqua & Magma are just eco terrorists. Maxie's a rock that talks and Archie's a brute.
Galactic has the absolute most stupid looking team and gods Cyrus is the only one of the group to feel any power but on the whole has a really stupid plan.
Ghetis is absolutely glorious. Plasma is still dumb.
Flare just felt like such a massive non-entity even in their own game.

Team Flare (or Lysandre at least) = Social Darwinists who hate humanity and wish to purge everything and recreate it into a better society.

They are pretty under developed in the game. They seemed to be galactic 2.0. They wanted to reuild the world into a beautiful state by eradicating all life on the planet but flare members.

Which makes no sense. How did they expect to live, the weapon would destroy the land so life would be pretty much impossible. There is still reason as to why they wanted this either.

In the 3rd game, they really need to expand the story of each character.

Barring Atlus titles? Not really.
The only SEGA series outside of Poyo Poyo that have seen any love after the dreamcast bombing I can think of is the second NiGHTs game, the one-off Billy Hatcher game, Super Monkey Ball, and I think Chu Chu Rocket got another game.
