That's right. Not only is my search for a Main epic, it is also magical. This has been proven with science.
Anyways, anyone who knows me knows that I have switched mains a lot. Mostly to and from Ganondorf. Yet I may have finally found a main in Game and Watch, and thus the journey may finally come to a close. Though I can't really say I won't just up and switch character again.
Let's go back to just before the release of Brawl. I was all hyped for the release, finding out that Ivysaur was in, this random character I'd never heard of - Pit - sounded pretty cool, and SONIC was in the game.
Then the news hit me. They had removed Mewtwo. This annoyed me, but at least I still had Ganondorf, right?
Wrong.
Ganondorf had been epically nerfed. He couldn't hit things, his wizkick got him punished. Flame Choke was kind of cool, but that was it.
Ivysaur was only a part of Pokémon Trainer, ruined by a badly thought out stamina mechanic. Also was weak to Fire, ruining her more.
Pit was okay, but I passed. Not quite the character I was looking for. I like things dying when they are killed.
And Sonic... was okay. I played Sonic for a time. Then I switched schools, and sort of played every character, mostly Dedede and Ganon.
Then, in summer of '09, a friend of mine turned my attention towards competitive play. I saw the tier list. I didn't want to play a character that lots of people played. Then I saw the bottom of the tier list. Ganondorf was there. Ganon became my main. We messed around with Balanced Brawl a little, and even Brawl+, but vBrawl continued to be the main game I'd play.
I went to a smashfest that summer at York U. I remember playing a Falco - I believe it was Minus/Runawayfire/whatever iirc - and got wrecked. I also remember playing on a team with Douhneill and having him cape a Super Missile, killing a Samus.
I continued playing mostly Ganon for a year or so. I was pretty much ready for tournaments that summer. Unfortunately, the GTA scene chose to die that summer. However, over the next few months, the scene gradually revived. It was at the first smashfest at York U in late 2010 that I changed to Lucario. This remained mostly constant for a month and a half. I started to play random characters. I was destroyed in my third tournament, losing to a Wolf - though admittedly a legit Wolf - and only managing to take a game off with Ganondorf against a Falco who SD'd on Norfair. This was January.
Now I really didn't have a main for the next while. Most people would say that I just switched it repeatedly, but none of those were mains, except maybe Ganon. It wasn't until 5 days before the Ontario Pwns Classic where I finally found a character. Mr. Game and Watch, or as I like to call him, Mr. Mindgames and Watch, son. I don't really care if that's lame or not.
So yeah, looking back, characters which I can confidently say I've mained are Sonic, Ganondorf, Lucario, and Mr. Game and Watch. Oh, and maybe Yoshi, but that was very borderline. I also don't really remember when that was. I have picked a grand total of 4 characters to main in my smash career. I have admittedly played every character in the game to a certain extent except Peach and ROB, but I have never mained any of them.
