This would be awesome.Can I ask who's the coder(s)?
I'm not good good at it, but I could maybe help with spriting.

Well, I'm an artist but I have little experience with spriting. I've downloaded aesprite a while ago so I can practice because I'm making a game with Stencyl, but I'm pretty sure there are some spriters on the Smash Crusade forums that may be interested as well. I'm starting school for game art spring semester so I still have a lot of free time before I know how my schedule will turn out. Please, spread the word! Spriters for characters are all we really need atm.
Oh dear, believe me. I'm a member of Crusade's forums, and they will not do any of that, they're great people, but they're occupied with Crusade.Well, I'm an artist but I have little experience with spriting. I see. And sure I'll post some art I've made. I'll just update my post with some artwork in a bit.Oh dear, believe me. I'm a member of Crusade's forums, and they will not do any of that, they're great people, but they're occupied with Crusade.
But, any of your artwork would be appreciated! If you'd like, you can show us an example of what some of your work is like.
Sweet. We'll look forward to seeing it.Sure. I'll just update my post with some artwork in a bit.
Now I'll actually feel bad if this whole project somehow becomes a flop.Wow, it's pretty popular already...
I'm glad to be a part of it, I AM working on coding as well, Bidoof, so... watch out!
Now I'll actually feel bad if this whole project somehow becomes a flop.
I really hope it works out! Why? If we work hard enough, it'll probably work. Sure, it'll take a year or two just to set up the engine, but we'll still have fun doing it.
The first post says what characters will be in the first beta version.
I'm using sprites, this game will be in the style of Crusade or SSF
I'm not sure what ill code it in. I am just starting to learn how to make games.
I don't know much about coding.
i am aware that you're planning 24 characters for the first beta, but you should definitely think about finishing maybe 4 of them and then releasing something playable (if not a public demo, show some videos or something)
if you think you're going to make it to 24 characters before you release something, you'll be sitting in this thread with nothing for people to play for two or more years, especially if you have no prior programming experience
speaking from personal experience, a smash fangame is not the first thing you should try to tackle when starting to program; i tried doing this when i picked up crusade's development and i had no idea what i was doing for several months
i've been working on a basic platformer for a good 6 months now as my official "first game" and the playable character isn't even fully functional yet
since you plan to do smash bros games in the future, try doing a couple platformers, which will give you a basic handle on the game's physics

That's some real neat stuff there! We''ll discuss this and get back to you soon. (could be 10 minutes or 2 days, who knows)I'm back with some sketches I've just made of Peach, Luigi, and OOT Ganondorf. Luigi's head looks a little big and something about Ganon's anatomy seems slanted but it was my first time drawing them, as well as Peach. The pics on the sides I use for reference so I know what I'm doing. I hope you guys like them!
And here's something I've hand drawn about 2 years ago for a book.

Oh okay.What Keybladeguy said.
Seems a bit too..... Drawn, I guessOh okay.
Also I tried making a Luigi sprite of the stance I've drawn before using Aesprite. It's not anything special just flat colored, and I compared it to Luigi's Brawl stance and the drawn version.
Yeah the Luigi I made in aesprite I drew with a tablet so I guess I kind went with the Skullgirls or Blazblue approach by accident. Though your right that it would take longer if the art direction went through this route. I would love to but this would be completely uncharted territory for me and I haven't learned 2-d animation yet. Also I would like to make the art take a stylistic direction like you've mentioned as well.that's less a sprite and more a piece of pixel art with very blurred outlines in places
sprites should generally be small (no larger than 50 pixels tall for most characters if you want them finished in anything resembling a timely manner). most of crusade's characters range from 30-50 pixels tall with width obviously varying from character to character. you could go an entirely different route a la skullgirls with hand-drawn animations rather than sprite animations, which would definitely set you apart from existing smash fangames, but i can only imagine this would take significantly longer and would require a much more defined and stylistic direction for the art.
the sketches look good and it's not a bad style for character portraits, but it's not something that can be easily converted into sprites
Pretty much what det said, although Skullgirls style might not be too bad, but yeah It would take a long time, that's less a sprite and more a piece of pixel art with very blurred outlines in places

Please note, this is only the first public roster released. It may or may not be the full one. (Hi SK!)Aww, no Solid Snake on the main roster? :/
This is the roster of the very first public release.Aww, no Solid Snake on the main roster? :/
We'll not necessarily anime.......I wish you guys the best of luck with this project. I just hope to the highest of hopes that you don't add anime characters like every other fan Smash game ever.
Thanks! We'll try our best to make this a really fun game.I wish you guys the best of luck with this project. I just hope to the highest of hopes that you don't add anime characters like every other fan Smash game ever.
We are currently taking a break on Preject Bidoof for now.I don't know how to code or sprite, but can I help with ideas?
Okay!We are currently taking a break on Preject Bidoof for now.
We are now working on a unique 2d side scroller to get us used to the code and engine we will be using for Project Bidoof.
The scroller is called "Limbs" that's all I'm saying for now.
