Smash Journeyman
Long and sad Ridley fanfic ahead, be prepared for a lengthy and heartbreaking read.
Ridley had been waiting to get into Smash Bros. for more than a decade. Ridley first noticed the fights when the first series of clashes began in Planet Zebes. He eagerly watched, curious of Samus and just why she was fighting such strange entities. Never before had Ridley seen such creatures. He had only seen Samus before, and his hunter's instincts drove him to crave fighting these people. After all, if he was a worthy opponent for Samus, surely he was able to fight Samus' enemies as well?
A few years past, and Ridley noticed something. It was as if time had suddenly stopped, as if he had stopped aging. None of the fighters aged. It was as if they fought forever. An eternity of fighting and glory seemed like a heavenly afterlife for the Space Pirate. A series of melees were announced, and Ridley was in the opening movie that Master Hand created. However, Ridley was not a fighter, but Ridley was happy. He had hopes, and nothing could stop him, he would be a Smash Brother one day.
After the melee, Ridley was approached by Master Hand. The hand told Ridley that he would finally be able to fight the Smash Brothers he had observed for years. However, it came with a catch. Ridley had to wait for a certain fighter to challenge him, and he had to share his position with several other characters as well, such as Porky Minch, the Hands themselves, and even a robotic clone of Ridley that Master Hand was able to create. Ridley, although not exactly what he wanted, was somewhat satisfied with his job. However, he wanted to fight who he wanted, where he wanted to be fought, and when he would fight. Ridley asked the two Hands for a role in the next series of fights, and the Hands began to think about it.
A few more years, and the next fight was announced to the Smash Brothers. However, this was not one tournament, but a two-in-one package! Ridley was eagerly watching every bit of news that was revealed about the fights. However one day, Ridley's heart was sunk. He saw a stage called the Pyrosphere, with his own shadow being visible. Ridley, in his sorrow, locked himself into the Smash Mansion basement. There, he met an abandoned R.O.B. unit, and made his very first friend in the Mansion. After discussing the situation with the R.O.B., Ridley decided he still had a chance. He would simply wait in the basement, starting a new leaf if he was announced.
However, Ridley was never called for the first series of matches. The R.O.B. unit, his only friend, was taken out of the basement by Master Hand, polished up, and was put into the first fight. Ridley then sat, truly alone, like the feared predator he was perceived to be. All he wanted was a chance to truly be a Smash Brother, and a tiny part of him still had hopes for the best for his future. However now, Ridley is convinced he will never be a Smash Brother, that his dreams would never be fulfilled, that the Hands has simply forgotten about him.
After all, who would listen to him? For he was just a cruel and mindless monster, in their eyes. To them, Ridley was a horrifying, sadistic, and brutal devil of a creature. They feared him, dreading his very presence. Not a single one of them wanted to be friends with Ridley.
They wouldn't understand.
