At first, I craved the idea of a smash for DS. Then I thought about the controls--Ouch. But, if they can get the wiimote to play it, then I guess DS would work... but would you really want to play it with DS controls?

Or imagine a smash that just used the stylus... Hey, it could be fun for a while.

Is there a chance? Has Nintendo annouced any thing?

There hasn't been anything announced, but it isn't impossible. If there was, though, it would play similar to Wii-remote control on Brawl, with the obvious benefit of a separate jump button and shoulder buttons for the shield.

Actuallly, with those additions, Wii-mote wouldn't even be a bad setup...

Though the idea is an interesting one that I've considered several times. It could either end up as

A: A remake of SSSB 64
B: A completely new game, but with graphics smilar to N64 quality.
C: A completely new game with 2D graphics, that would likely run smoother over the internet. (SSB was originally planned for the SNES, so 2D graphics are a possibility)

All with the obvious possibility of running over the Wi-Fi connection.

In any case, I can't see it failing.

Yea, it would certainly make them money. DS players would love it. And it could even bring more money to Brawl, if it was released a year later, and drew people into the franchise.

On the ds, no. On the next nintendo handheld that uses some form of an analog stick, yes. You can't play smash right without an analog stick, anybody that tells you otherwise is wrong.

If SSB isn't released on Virtual Console before SSBB is released, then I'm going to be assuming a DS remake is in the pipeline.

They won't make an entirely new game for it though.

I don't see why not. It could work like Jump! Ultimate Stars, or the L button could work as a 'tap the control stick' button. L+Forward+B (or Y or X or A) is a smash. It may seem tedious, but it's rather easy to do. R button could be for shielding.

But anyway, there might already be a thread on this.

If we do get a SSBDS, it most likely wont be anytime soon. BTW the SSB series seems like a console game, not a hand-held game.
Why would it make that much of a difference...I use to think that about other games that came to the DS/ GBA, etc.

As much as I want it, I don't really see it happening.

Of course, I said that same thing about Guitar Hero DS.

Seeing that you can use the Wii remote to play SSBB I wouldn't see why they couldn't use the DS to do the same thing. I mean, they both use D pads to move, small buttons to attack, and unlike the wii remote the DS has a L and R button.

What would be bad in any way to have a Smash on the DS if they could and wanted to?

It is possible, I don't know why some people are so against the idea. I think the main argument against it actually happening though is that it's not needed. So far it seems new Smash Bros games are refined and greatly expanded versions of the previous games, rather than other entries in a franchise - once a new game comes out, the previous game isn't really needed, as pretty much everything in it is contained in the next game. Considering we have Brawl on the way, I can't see a DS version being much other than a step back, as I can't imagine Nintendo wishing to move the 'main' entries onto a handheld.

Although, it would be pretty cool to see a version of Smash Bros with 2D graphics. That's not exactly enough to warrant the development of a whole game though (especially one as deep as Smash).

Oh yeah, 'course. Like Super Mario 64, and Diddy Kong Racing, yeah? :)

What do you guys think they'd use the second screen for? An extension of the first screen to make the battles visibly higher? Time/stock information? Or possibly item based stuff - showing the next item to appear (a la Tetris), or even holding an item to use at the right moment (a la Super Mario World/New Super Mario Bros)?

wii mote control settings says Hi.
and ya I can easily see a ssbDS game, but it would have n64 graphics or be 2d.(I would prefere 2D because it would mean more characters and better online play).

Almost impossible, but how amazingly awesome would a SSB DS game be based on the Brawl character roster using only 2D sprites?

Buttons similar to wii-mote setup, second screen for time/stock/kills/suicides info. Single player target test over two screens.

Check the Signature.

It took an act of God to get Sakurai to develop Brawl. I doubt he'll do it....
