I certainly hope it's better than that. It sounds even more shallow than Brawl's Stage Creator. Also, it's probably an unique character. I.E. Mii.
Really? It doesn't sound shallow to me at all. Think of it competitively. This could mean LT characters could, by the virtue of a few well placed customisations that increase hitboxes and such, could become MT or even HT characters. People have to stop thinking Brawl is so ridiculously unbalanced that it would take major character overhauls to do anything. Bowser in Brawl would have been rather fantastic with a few of his moves being faster. Lucas and Ness would easily have been high mid had they not had serious CG issues, and they would have gone higher if Ness had a less punishable PKT1 and Lucas's startup to grab was quicker, etc etc.
From the looks of it, this is Sakurai saying 'we could go crazy with this, but no.' He's actually catering more to the competitive audience here and it's
deliberate. That's what makes this so beautiful for me. He's actually reducing the craziness that could come with this (leveling up or customising power and such) that casuals would probably destroy each other for and made the changes more subtle. This allows casuals to make small changes to their character that they like without there being wars on the internet about what setup for each character is better and it would allow the competitive community to achieve some real balance. So basically, Sakurai has said 'sorry casuals' (but i'll make it clear now, this isn't anything against casuals, this is just praise for Sakurai thinking about competitive play) and has tried to help US out a bit.
So if that in itself isn't exciting enough for you, then think of it's significance. Sakurai, throughout everything we've heard, seems to be trying to allow the game to be played competitively and be balanced (no tripping, slightly faster gameplay ((well it's arguable as to how competitive that is but i'm taking it as a good sign anyway

)), major overhauls of characters we know are considered low tier ((Bowser, Samus, etc.)) and interesting balancing of new characters ((It would appear the villager can only use his Bowling Ball when on a ledge?)) and so on) whilst allowing casual players to have as much fun as they like with the game.
It's not Melee, it's not Brawl, it's something different and from what i'm hearing it's everything i'm looking for in a game I want to play competitively. I couldn't be more hyped for this game because all the signs are just pointing upwards for me.
So that's why i'm so excited for little things like this.
Wii Fit Trainer actually made me a little less excited for the game.
I reckon she was new, refreshing and interesting personally. It's not like we have THAT few slots that she's probably going to take someone like Mewtwo's spot or whoever goes there but she's a signal that we should expect something new and different and I actually really like that. She reminds me a lot of ZSS and although I couldn't originally, the more I think about it the more I can see her as fitting in really well with the cast of characters in this game.
I reckon for her, it's a case of 'why not?' personally.
Take it as you will but i'm thinking she won't have much impact on anything else and she could be a really fun addition. I dunno. I might just be excited for this game for the sake of being excited but I'd say not because I can think of things that would make me less excited for the game...
It's just, none of them actually seem to be the case so i'm just getting really excited. :D
GET HYPED!!! :3
