Many people, myself included, think that the forced total anonymity of random internet battles is too extreme a safety measure. Luckily, this is one complaint that can sort of be worked around.

Let's talk - crouch repeatedly
Let's fight - any B move (or just start fighting)
Friend Codes? - air dodge
Who are you? - empty short hop
I am: - ground dodge
Not right now - turn in circles
Ignore the last part (for if you make a mistake) - shield and release
Let me start over - roll
If a tilt, smash, or grab would take too long, simply crouch and then do the alternate (tilt to substitute for a smash, vice versa, jab for grab).
I know the most obvious flaw in this is that both/all combatants would have to be aware of this language for it to be of any use. Well, could there be any better place for it than here? The US release is still two months away, that's plenty of time for many many people to notice it. Also time for any forseeable problems to be solved.
Speaking of which, the second biggest problem is that it would be a pain to memorize, and tedious to do. Which is why I'm also starting a registry of names and abbreviations, which people can refer to after the fight, and then they can contact each other through more conventional internet means. If there ends up being some big list of friend codes, maybe the abbreviations could just be tacked onto that.
The third apparent problem is that it's risky to try to "talk" to someone during a fight. Crouching is fast and safe, though, so it should be easy to sneak in a few of those, that's why it's the primary signal. If your opponent won't even give you that much free time, you can always use respawn invincibility. If they don't return the signal, oh well, keep fighting, at least you tried.
Thoughts? Comments? Possible improvements? Please refrain from opining things Sakurai should have done, this is about what WE can do.
