Regarding your second point, Nintendo wanted a new Golden Sun entry, the Takahashi brothers said that in some interview. And also, even if it was a cheap port with motion controls, they did a Mario Tennis for the wii before Dark Dawn.
I still think the fact they chose to work with Capcom instead of Nintendo had consequences (less budget in new games, not having a lot of recognition, maybe more restrictive with their projects); though it isn't official, it's just a hunch.

December for the new character. It has been one month since the last direct. And I doubt they will reveal something apart from Terry and some Mii costumes in November, so it makes sense to reveal the 5th character in VGA, to fit the calendar they gave when they announced the season pass. If they reveal the 6th one in November or December, some people will question the 5th character if it's not popular.

Probably not till next month. Reminds me of last October when news was so dry, we would take about anything to start discussing again which lead to the Grinch Leak. While it was sad that it turned out to be fake, it was one of the most exciting things to happen at the time. Depending on how you look at it, of course.

I can see this happening or they announcing the fifth along with Terry's showcase and then the first of the extra DLC on VGA. I hope the second one! But it would be a little bit too close to each other, I suppose. How hype would it be if the first extra DLC is an upgrade though??

if there's a smash direct, we're getting Terry, #5, and Post Pass #1. If it's general or just Terry's video, I believe #5 will come as well

I don't think we will get a fighter reveal at TGA again. It'll probably be something different this year. If we get a Direct in November with a Terry video, I definitely think we will get a #5 reveal then. If there's just a solo Terry video with no Direct, then #5 might not be announced until December or January.

I'm going to be honest: I see Isaac as the biggest character post-Fighters Pass. Isaac getting in representative of the most: GBA rep, "irrelevant" rep (finally smashing that stupid 'rule'), no-current-playable-character-yet-first-party series, Assists can't be fighters in the same game, etc. I wouldn't be surprised to see Isaac as the first character revealed for the next set of DLC.

Personally, I'd be more surprised if Isaac doesn't make it than if he does. I said the same thing about the base game, but there were some restricting circumstances that prevented his inclusion. I firmly believe that those restrictions have been lifted and Sakurai has willed Isaac to playable status.

Obviously, we're biased, but I think it is more than that. I tried to outline the evidence for why exactly what you've said feels like the reality of our current situation within this video. We're sitting at the top of a pile of far sketchier picks, overqualified and overlooked.

The thing is everything is WIDE open right now so there's no direction or framework for the post-pass world. The fake leak of the day had the Scribblenauts guy for Smash. I was like jfc people listen to yourselves.

Then the new DLC I dont know. Game awards seems possible but last time was a big surprise. Imagine if we got Metroid Prime 4 footage or something?

I'd actually love this outcome??? I love Smash and I know is super hype inducing (and Nintendo surely wants the extra DLC to perform as good if not better than the Fighters pass) buuut it would be neat to get a different announcement from them at VGA

Part of me wouldn't be suprised if we do get post-FP news without getting any actual character reveals. Maybe We'll get info about how many characters we can expect, if we're getting another pass or just individual packs, etc. Similar to how Sakurai explained the DLC during last years November direct.

Hey, everyone! It's been quite a while since I last posted in here (last November, apparently?!) I've been reading the posts pretty often, I guess I just haven't joined in the discussion myself for a while!

I've been feeling pretty good about Isaac's chances since the DLC beyond the Fighter's Pass was announced! I've seen some people thinking that, because there were extra character slots in the game files, DLC beyond the Pass was the plan from the beginning - however, I don't think this is the case, myself. While they were obviously open to the idea, I don't think they were certain they'd do more at first, especially since (to my knowledge) no well-known leakers seemed to know about the new DLC prior to its announcement during the last Direct (correct me if I'm wrong!) That suggests that it wasn't being discussed internally until recently! That's how I see it, anyways.

And if that is the case, then characters that the team didn't plan to make playable become possible again! The Fighter's Pass got announced before the game even came out, so its characters were likely already planned out before the game released. That means that characters like Isaac, who became Assist Trophies/Mii Costumes/etc. in the base game, weren't being looked at, since they planned those at the same time as the Pass (though the Pass seems to be all third-party anyway). But now that there's more coming, I don't see any reason why characters who became ATs/costumes/etc. can't be promoted to playable if they remain popular requests! I think Isaac's got a very good shot!

I'm glad that this thread is still so active - a lot of support threads seem to have fizzled out after their characters became ATs/costumes/etc. in the base game, so it's good to see this one is still going strong! If Isaac gets in, hopefully it rekindles the hope for the threads that fizzled out!

Let's keep up the good fight! Let's get Isaac!

Regarding the next announcements, I feel like DLC #5 will get revealed on Terry's release date alongside a new presentation showing off Terry. I'm going to guess that the first post-Pass character will be revealed in January, alongside #5's video/release - they've said that the Fighter's Pass will be completed by February 2020, but that doesn't mean it has to finish in February itself. The characters have been releasing every two months since Hero, so I'm guessing that trend will continue.

Delzethin 's Isaac concept video gives an idea on how Isaac's could be unique (at 7:38)! Instead of using a one-handed sword, he could instead wield two-handed longswords like the Sol Blade. It could behave somewhat differently from the swords currently used in Smash!

This is absolutely the case with Hero. We've heard rumors about him since August 2018, and there are signs that he was meant to be a base game character but had to be pushed to DLC due to music licensing.

I'd like to see these signs, as Square reportedly didn't want Cloud to be anything but DLC and had to be fought on it, so I find it very, very difficult to buy that Hero was going to be base game

Yeah I’m a little skeptical but I’d like to hear why. Did Sakurai want Hero for base they never got much done because of square?

This is purely on my speculation but may be it sent to DLC because of JASRAC. DQ musics are managed by them and they always take money by percentage of the sales of the product so the cost will be far less if it's DLC.

I don't think Hero was intended for base, I think DLC was just planned since the game's inception. Not necessarily all the characters themselves, but just that the game would have DLC. So acquiring some of the DLC could've happened well before any actual development on them was done.

Well, yeah, considering we knew Microsoft and Nintendo were talking at E3, it's very safe to say that's when Banjo was being negotiated.

I hit this from the opposite angle in my video and combined it with a few others.

Motoi Sakuraba worked on five new remixes in Ultimate, two for Earthbound, Wood Man, Vs. Parasite Queen and How to Play. But despite being heavily involved as he always is (since Brawl), he was not asked to remix any of his original compositions for Ultimate. In Brawl and Smash 4, he did Mario Golf, Golden Sun, even Baten Kaitos! music. But here... nope just covers of other people's work.

I suppose it's nothing more than a bit of a raw deal if taken separately from everything else... but it's entirely suspicious in context.

...So that's why I think Llyod from Tales of Symphonia is going to be the next dlc character thank you for coming to my TED Talk.

Guys Nintendo of Europe responded to my letter!

It was a thank you card and a Super Mario poster. No message or anything. But the fact they responded meant they at least opened my letter so, as long as someone read it that's great!

I definitely think Lloyd is coming soon. It’s also weird that we didn’t get a new GS remix even though we got so much GS content this time. They even played the GS track over the AT roll and put Isaac first, but didn’t even give him a new remix. Something’s suspicious about that imo.

Someone definitely reads these, I know some of the ones we saw earlier this year got actual replies back. Hopefully this is going back to Camelot or Nintendo somehow.

It's good to know we're making our voices heard. We might just pull this off after all.

Hey does anyone remember when the character slots were datamined and there was a number that was skipped with the ultimate characters? I think there may have been a cut character. I cant seem to find it anymore but i swear somebody put out an image of the file list.

I remember all those posts on the website were numbered and Isabelle's didn't quite match up with what should have been the next post or whatever, so we all went into a frenzy about that. I know Chrom's internal ID is a little strange (some have theorized he "replaced" what would have been Isaac's number), but there really isn't to suggest there were cut characters.

Personally, I think that if Ultimate had the normal amount of newcomers and didn't include every veteran, Isaac would've made it, but that's pure speculation and hope.
