I wouldn't be against a composite design for Isaac in Smash, sort of like Fire Emblem. Of course, it would need to draw heaviest from the classic design... but throwing in some aspects of adult Isaac and maybe Matthew (assuming he wasn't an alt) could be cool.
That said I don't find Isaac's classic design to be that outdated, especially in the context of Smash where there are a litany of opposing designs.
I'm not the biggest Isaac supporter but I saw some good potential so I made a moveset for him. It was surprisingly easy to finish off. Keep in mind literally all I know of him and his game is his AT attack and the screenshots in the OP.
Note: Not the fastest runner and air speed is pretty meh. Definitely a ground fighter. His dodges all have him turn to sand for a brief second.
Jab: Downward slash with sword on his back, followed by a horizontal slash, then finally an upward slash as the sword goes back in its sheath. Flurry has him summon Ragnarok to spin in front before slashing the opponent away.
Ftilt: Shoots a stalk of bamboo out of the ground beside him that jabs diagonally upwards before shrinking back into the ground.
Utilt: Summons Ragnarok to jab upwards. Good range vertically but unlikely to hit opponents at the side.
Dtilt: Puts his hand to the ground a creates 3 small pillars of earth, one after the other forwards. The pillars form only if there's a certain amount of platform left, so only 2 or 1 or sometimes even none will form if he's right next to the edge. Pillars carry opponent into the next pillar.
Dash: 2 hit slash with sword on his back, first downwards slash then upwards.
Fsmash: Summons Ragnarok to stab the ground hard in front. Good for catching opponents holding onto the edge.
Usmash: Holds a wide stance facing the camera with arms extended and palms facing upwards during charge animation. Isaac then claps his hands above his head as two pieces of rock come out from either side to collide above. 2 hits as the rocks hit the opponents into the collision.
Dsmash: Holds one hand above his head as 2 vines come out of the ground either side during charge animation. Isaac then throws his hand down as the vines whip the ground on either side.
Nair: horizontal spin with sword extended. Like Marth's Nair but one hit each side.
Fair: Creates a small psynergy hand, reels back, then punches forward. Pretty good at killing at the edge.
Bair: Creates a small psynergy hand that backhand slaps backwards once.
Uair: Creates 2 psynergy hands that clap together twice above.
Dair: Spins fast downwards, knocking opponents away. Good way to get back to the ground. Doesn't spike.
Grab: Creates a giant psynergy hand to grab opponents into its fist. Like Yoshi's or Villager's grab the opponent disappears inside the fist. A tether recovery but with no hitbox, only a windbox.
Pummel: clenches the fist tighter.
Fthrow: Lets the opponent go and does the Push animation from Brawl but actually does damage and doesn't go that far at all.
Bthrow: Scoop. Opens the fist then throws the opponent over Isaac's head.
Uthrow: Throws the opponent overhead before creating a second psynergy and clapping on the opponent, knocking them upwards.
Dthrow: Pound. Lets the opponent go before bringing a psynergy fist down on them.
B: Halt. Stun Counter. Duration of stun depends on strength of opponents attack.
Side B: Gaia. After a small startup, Isaac summons a rock out of the ground at his feet to fly forwards in a wide arc. If used in the air the rock comes out of the ground directly below Isaac. Can only come out of solid platforms, so using this on soft platforms has him bring the rock out of a potential solid platform underneath. Also has to be within a certain range of the solid platform below, otherwise this move fails.
Up B: Splitter. Jumps up, then comes down hard, shattering the ground on impact. Heavy shield damage and a good KO move. Mii Sword-in-the-Stone type move with more height and longer air time. Hits opponents away as opposed to spiking them during the jump and descent.
Down B: Nettle. Makes nettles grow on the ground underneath him, causing continuous no-knockback damage to any opponent that touches them.
Final Smash: Meggido. Creates a randomised rain of meteors that fall from the sky and explode on contact with ground. Isaac can move as the meteors rain down.
Taunt 1: Facing the camera, creates a small sandcastle with his powers in front of him.
Taunt 2: Holds a dynamic pose facing the camera as Ragnarok appears behind him
Taunt 3: Facing forwards, Isaac bumps his fists together twice while 2 psynergy hands do the same behind his head.
Win anim 1: Isaac high fives a psynergy hand during the freeze frame before posing while looking towards the camera.
Win anim 2: The camera focuses on Ragnarok spinning in the air before flying down and stabbing into the ground behind Isaac.
Win anim 3: The camera focuses on Isaac juggling 3 rocks before one hits the top of his head during the freeze frame. He then starts rubbing the sore spot on his head. (Is this is character? who knows)
Lose anim: Isaac looks to the side in shame with his arms crossed as 2 psynergy hands clap in his place.
It is 2018, the last Golden Sun, Dark Dawn, was released in 2010 meaning it has been nearly 8 years since the last Golden Sun game. Not a big deal. However, it is worth noting that the amount of time between releases of the last two Golden Sun games was 8 years. The Lost Age was in 2002 and, again, Dark Dawn was in 2010, 8 years. We've waited as long as we have before for a new game so maybe, just maybe, it's coming soon.

Ugh, I remember back in 2009 and 2010 on here when Isaac was like the most popular character due to Dark Dawn. That was a long time ago.
But yeah, who knows. Let's pray there's something in the cards. I hope Octopath Traveler does well. Every more classic kinda JRPG that does well on a Nintendo system, hopefully, just hopefully, persuades Nintendo a little more to give GS another shot.

I'm very interested to see what Camelot had been up to, whatever the hell it is I'm interested. Especially considering they now have experience in HD development. Hopefully, hopefully it's Golden Sun.
Unfortunately Camelot always seems focused on Mario sports titles nowadays. Watch Nintendo just have Camelot do a port of Mario Tennis Ultra Smash to the Switch. That'd be almost as underwhelming as a port New Super Mario Bros. U to the Switch. LOL.

Awesome man! Yeah Golden Sun still gets new fans every year. Which makes it all the stranger to me that the franchise has been so neglected since Dark Dawn. Speaking of Dark Dawn, finished that game last month. And whoa! It's story telling is pretty damn grandious, moreso than even the first two games.. well, once the story really gets going I mean. Overall I wish there was more focus on the Heroes of Vale instead of far less important NPCs- but am really happy I got a chance to have played the game. It's worth the investment! Just a damn shame the franchise never continued afterwards. I'll keep saying it...
Really hope that Isaac did well on the ballot cause that would basically be his ONLY chance of ever getting in. And seeing as Smash made it possible to have a revival of even Mega Man, I do think it could trigger the rise of the Golden Sun yet again. Yeah, it's been said before, but I'll just say it again because apperantly, it hasn't been said enough. Camelot, if you're reading this (which you should) throw some Water of Life on the Golden Sun yet again. We all know you wanna make different games than just Mario Tennis...
Yay for more (and new) Isaac support! Isaac in Smash would really be something.
But if not, here’s hoping Golden Sun will somehow find its way into Switch anyway. Both GBA games were released for Wii U’s Virtual Console, and if they plan to bring something like that back for the Switch, I’d gladly double(?)/triple(?) dip for the games again. Moreso for Dark Dawn! A whole new game would be a dream come true of course - as much as I appreciate Camelot (finally) giving us what looks to be a worthwhile Mario Tennis game in Aces, I really wish development for a new GS game would be on the table as well. JRPG’s seem to be the rave right now anyway.

Hmm good point. Yes I do hope Golden Sun will be included for the Switch's Virtual Console. Anyone knows if it's also there on the 3DS? Cause I would buy both games if they are. JRPGs, especially classic ones with turn-based combat, seem to indeed be on the rise again. Would be a great oppertunity to bring Golden Sun back. But at this point, I can only see them doing a remake of the first one, or coupled with TLA. Which I wouldn't object against anyway. I doubt we'll see a proper sequel to Dark Dawn unless the game gets remade, which isn't really much of a possibility if they won't remake the first two games.
Up until about a month and a half ago, I never played a Golden Sun game despite being intrigued at the possibility of having Isaac in, even without knowing a whole lot of what he's capable of offering to the Super Smash Bros. franchise. Now that I have finished Golden Sun and Golden Sun: The Lost Age via the eshop (haven't played Dark Dawn yet ), I support Isaac being a new character in the future.
His moveset potential is extremely high with an arsenal that includes sword based attacks, psynergy, djinn, and summons. On one hand, he could specifically use Venus psynergy and djinn for his normal and special moves. On the other hand, he could use a variety of different moves that spans to all 4 elements Mercury, Venus, Mars, and Jupiter.
Perhaps even take it a step further by having the Djinn mechanic implemented into his specials; kind of similar to how Shulks Monado's Arts work. For example, most of Isaac's vanilla stats would be above average like weight, walk speed, run speed, air speed, damage output, knockback, etc. Let's say that 3 out of your 4 specials are Venus djinn with the one exception being up-b for reasons I'll get into. Once you use a certain djinn, that djinn goes into a standby phase. As a result, you can no longer use that djinn plus a few of your stats slightly decrease like a 10% decrease in speed or a couple of weight units are shaved off. However though, on the plus side, you gain access to your summons and for the more djinn you've used up to that point, the more powerful and destructive that summon becomes. After your summon is over, all the djinn that you've used for that summon go into a recovery phase for an x amount of time until your djinn is/are back to set along with your original stats.
1 Djinn in standby mode (neutral special, side special, or down special) = Venus
2 Djinn in standby mode (neutral special+side special, neutral special+down special, or side special+down special = Ramses
3 Djinn in standby mode (all 3 specials) = Cybele
Notice how I don't have a "4 Djinn (all 4 specials) = Judgment". I believe that Judgment would make a lot more sense as a final smash given how much area it covers, how much damage it does, and its' sequence is much longer than the sequences of the lower level summons. Another reason why I don't have all specials use the djinn mechanic is because it would significantly cripple Isaac's recovery.
When it comes to the soundtrack, Golden Sun has plenty of memorable music, which I'm amazed that Motoi Sakuraba was able to make music on a Gameboy Advance sound this good. My personal wishlist includes the following...
Isaac's Battle Theme
Saturos Boss Theme
Sea of Karagol
Venus Lighthouse
Final Boss - Golden Sun
Jenna's Theme
Felix's Theme
Mars Lighthouse
Final Boss - Golden Sun: The Lost Age
World Map Medley - Golden Sun+Golden Sun: The Lost Age
Battle Scene/Final Boss Remix - Golden Sun: The Lost Age (Brawl)
Weyard - Golden Sun: Dark Dawn (Smash 4)
For a Golden Sun stage, Venus Lighthouse feels like it would make the most sense; specifically the top of Venus Lighthouse since most stages in Smash have bottom blastzones and Venus Lighthouse is an important part of the plot that links the first 2 games together.
Hopefully he'll finally make it in someday and he'll be worth the wait with abilities, music, trophies, stages, etc. that do the character and franchise justice.
At least we can play him in Super Smash Flash 2. His uair is so satisfying to land with btw. Love that move!
I'm not optimistic about Isaac's chances but if we as Golden Sun fans make a lot of noise about Isaac being in Smash maybe that'll entice Camelot to make a new game already.
If this game is a mere port, I will say right now it would very likely take the inclusion of Isaac (or Matthew, I suppose) as a playable character to make me buy it.
I have no interest in a port of a game that I got bored with so quickly as SSB4. That game just didn't have enough spark, IMO. And I'm not saying that because of the lack of Isaac, I promise.
As far as I'm concerned the deciding factor will be if Isaac did well on the fan vote. If he did, maybe he sneaks into the main roster. If he doesn't, I'd be skeptical he or anything Golden Sun gets in due to not being considered popular enough for DLC. Not like they have any Golden Sun games to promote...
I also want to hop on to the universe where Advance Wars became one of Nintendo's biggest IP's and people are complaining about too many AW characters in Smash.
