I'm personally okay with them (it's like a mini-E3 with commercials), but there's certainly no guarantee that Smash will show up there again. Joker as a surprise TGA 2018 reveal made sense; skipping TGA 2019 and showing Byleth later also made sense. I guess it depends on just who will be showing up in FP2 as well as expected release dates, because it has to be worth Nintendo's time/money to show off during a non-Direct.I have only two requests for this Pass: Isaac, of course, and please, do not make me watch TGAs again. They are actually the most boring game-related presentation I've ever seen. I've already resolved not to watch 2020's, lol.
I'm not sure if he would not be realizable, he's already in a traditional 2D fighting game and there should be room for Sakurai's own take on him.Honorable mentions: Doomguy (I think, if anything, we'll get Mii Fighter gear), Phoenix Wright (I think Sakurai won't consider him "realizable"), Rex (Sakurai bias could get him in, but I think it makes more sense at this point just leaving him as a costume)
Inb4 Broken Seal remake in 2020 and Lost Age remake in 2021, be it an update, DLC or separate game. They're not likely to save GS for 2021. Camelot puts out new games bi-yearly, so they're due for another one this year.
Camelot puts out new games bi-yearly because their typical output is sports games, which are less time intensive to develop than RPGs. It's not a question of "saving" GS until 2021. It's that, if GS were in development, it might not be ready until 2021.They're not likely to save GS for 2021. Camelot puts out new games bi-yearly, so they're due for another one this year.
I'll do it too. I will also do several wild guess around the characters themselves.Since we've circled back around to FP Vol. 2 speculation, here's my predictions:
Not to mention they wouldn't waste a WHOLE YEAR of trademark lifetime after it just got approved in late 2019, lol. They're not likely to save GS for 2021. Camelot puts out new games bi-yearly, so they're due for another one this year.
Were there not a handful of other minor series which saw their trademarks renewed in conjunction with Golden Sun?Not to mention they wouldn't waste a WHOLE YEAR of trademark lifetime after it just got approved in late 2019, lol.
That's a good point until you remember that Dark Dawn was made in a two year cycle as wellCamelot puts out new games bi-yearly because their typical output is sports games, which are less time intensive to develop than RPGs. This isn't a renewal, this is a brand new trademark, by NoJ. NoJ isn't the one to bother with renewals, so it's not even the same case as those other trademarks you might be thinking of.Were there not a handful of other minor series which saw their trademarks renewed in conjunction with Golden Sun?
For them to all show up, let alone this year, seems a bit past plausible to me.
As a fan of said game (I miss Mahvel so much), it's less "Can Phoenix Wright work?" than "Does Sakurai think he'd work?". Smash is different enough that the answer isn't immediately obvious, and his moveset in UMvC3 was pretty weird regardless. Obviously I'm leaning towards Sakurai not bothering, assuming Phoenix is even on his radar, although I could of course be wrong.I'm not sure if he would not be realizable, he's already in a traditional 2D fighting game and there should be room for Sakurai's own take on him.
I'm not sure a lack of Japan popularity would rule out Doomguy and Master Chief given just how famous and important to the FPS genre their two franchises are, but it's hard to say either way. Similarly I think it's probably too early to rule out Rayman when he didn't get a costume alongside the other Ubisoft picks, much like how it is odd Geno's costume remains MIA despite his popularity seemingly at an all-time high. I'm also surprised you wouldn't consider series like Ninja Gaiden, Dark Souls, and No More Heroes to be mainstream, but that sort of thing is obviously subjective. In any case I do enjoy seeing this sort of speculation, particularly differing viewpoints I wouldn't consider otherwise.I'll do it too. I will also do several wild guess around the characters themselves.
Why I didn't pick these characters:
- Crash: there have been a dude on Twitter leaking Byleth and other stuff correctly. He is guessing Crash as FP6. It seems he was just a troll, but let's consider it true anyway, Crash is possible and would indeed be a start of the pass like was Joker: outstanding.
He'll be shown at the end of the month, around the time the pass is made available.- Steve/Sora: shown at E3 2020. I believe that Microsoft is still in the game. And I also think Sakurai and Disney would find an agreement.
- Isaac: during a Nintendo direct at the end of 2020, tied to an announcement of a game coming 2021. A remake for the anniversary?
- Phoenix Wright: in a Nintendo Direct
- Steve/Sora: shown at E3 2021
- Elma: during a Nintendo direct at the end of 2021, tied to an announcement of a remake of XCX or a new XCX2. It will be way after XC:DE launch, they will have time to work on it. And the pass will end, like always, on a relatively less hype inducing character.
- I hardly believe in Doomguy and Master Chief. They may represent FPS, but they are really not well known in Japan and that's a dealbreaker.
- I was expecting Rayman when I saw the Ubisoft Mii costume, but there are two dealbreakers: he is not renowned in Japan either, and these Mii costumes would have been launched aside Rayman at a later date.
- Geno, Ruy Hayabusa, Lloyd, Dark Souls, Travis, Arle and Shantae are still possible, but I have a hard time believing in them to be that big, especially considering the general public and not only the microcosmos that is the Smash hardcore community. They wouldn't be big selling contents toward the general public. Geno may totally become a Deluxe Mii costume however.
- Waluigi isn't going to get upgraded, he doesn't bring that much new content. That's also the case for several other first parties of existing franchise: Dixie, Bandana Waddle Dee, Krystal... Even Rex, who is in the end "just" a swordfighter.
- Other unrep first parties, like Andy, Ray, Chibi Robo, Rythm Heaven rep, etc., may take a spot of one of the first party, but I don't feel it can happen without a new game.
Ya King K. Rool especially would have never been here if not for the hard push the fans gave him. I still can't believe they held Isaac off like that. They had to of known.. Or then again.. Maybe they didn't. They seemed super surprised ANYONE even wanted K. Rool and threw us the mii outfit real quick to compensate. So maybe all the Isaac support is baffling to them also. Who really knows..Well, it did take him a while, and massive fan demand, to add them.
I’ll never understand how Isaac was supposedly a big surprise to them. Almost every major poll you find on the internet about wanted characters Isaac is always near the top.Ya King K. I agree. Never understood what Nintendo was thinking there. ><I’ll never understand how Isaac was supposedly a big surprise to them. Almost every major poll you find on the internet about wanted characters Isaac is always near the top.
The thing that sucks the most as well is Isaac is essentially a first party character. You’d think Nintendo would look at that and be like “Well, ****.... There’s still quite a few people who care about this series we have. Maybe we should give it another chance considering it actually was successful except for the third game (which still didn’t do terrible) which we hardly advertised and released on the DS just months before the 3DS came out.”
Almost all the franchises that were trademarked in 2008-2009 had a new trademark filed because the updated trademark from that time became obsolete. Why all those franchises? I really don't know....except you can't just register a trademark for no reason. There has to be a justifiable reason for that trademark to have to happen, which is provided prior to the trademark's in statement.
Plus, there's still an active trademark for GS from 2001 that still has a year left on it, and had 3 at the time of the new one being submitted.
Those specific ones are most likely getting some form of new release, whether that be a port, collection, remake, or new game. I'm fairly convinced of Sin & Punishment in particular, since Treasure's been really silent for two years despite saying they had been getting project requests, etc.Almost all the franchises that were trademarked in 2008-2009 had a new trademark filed because the updated trademark from that time became obsolete. Elite Beat Agents also got a new trademark so make of that as you will lol. It didn't even have any trademark filed before then.
I mean FE hasn't had a new trademark filed by NoJ since 2006 and it produces more games than I can count. Those specific ones are most likely getting some form of new release, whether that be a port, collection, remake, or new game. The trademarks also apply for product still being produced on the market, which explains Style Savvy, since 3DS games are still being printed.
Yes, I already made note of that. All of the franchises I mentioned were new trademarks filed to replace the old ones from 2008-2009. Some were trademarked after 15+ years of not having any new trademarks, and others like EBA only got it's first trademark now.Reminder that the GS trademark is a separate new one, not a renewal of an existing one, lol.
Until Camelot finally reveals what they've been working on.How often will we have to remind people that really ? xD
The same can be applied once it is a Mario Golf. It's going to be amazing witnessing how much this thread will explode once a new Golden Sun game is hopefully revealed
I would be in a rollercoaster of emotions.could you imagine if they reveal Golf, but then shortly after the Direct we find out that it's actually not Camelot that's working on it?
About all of us will be that day. My only hope is that Isaac has been considered and promoted to help promote a new GS game. That would be amazing!I would be in a rollercoaster of emotions.
Litteraly the best way to use a shill pick.About all of us will be that day. My only hope is that Isaac has been considered and promoted to help promote a new GS game. That would be amazing!
