If any of you are drivers out there, there's no doubt you haven't noticed that our seemingly steady gas prices have gotten a bit crazy. In Southern Utah, where I live, our stable $2.30 has skyrocketed past the $3.00 mark within this past month. The gas stations by the freeway exits are even $3.14.

On the way home from my friend's tonight, I noticed that the cheapest gas in town finally joined the expensive gas parade, and broke the three dollar barrier. As I pulled into the gas station, I frowned upon this sight, and decided to take pictures, and post them on SWF. That way, everyone that doesn't live in the US can make me feel better by saying that they "have to pay eight pounds for just one litre of petrol."

Anywho, this local Maverik's cheapest gas, other than diesel, is $3.02.

I threw twenty bucks into gas, and got a meager 6.647 gallons out of it. I even have a special Maverik card that gets me $0.02 off of every gallon! Luckily, they put three numbers after the decimal, so I can round it up to 6.65 gallons if I feel like it. Pump 12 has finally conquered the mighty twenty dollar bill, by not warranting at least seven gallons.

I had about 1cm of gas left on my gas gague when I put the twenty in. Luckily, I drive a small crappy two-door Hyundai that doesn't seem to even need gasoline that badly. It almost got me to 3/4 full.

So, tell me SWF. How much has gas climbed up to in your area? I want to know whether I'm getting ripped off from the rest of the US, or actually have a decent price.

Gas in my area is about $3.47 and still rising.

A 20 doesn't get me even to a solid 6 gallons. *sigh* I hate high gas price season. My fuel gauge is never even above the halfway point anymore. I miss seeing it full.

I filled up for $2.76 a couple of days ago at a Valero. That's the cheapest I've seen it around here. Most places are in the $2.79-2.83 range, with Mobil stations being the most expensive of them all at $2.89

Gas around here was at $2.90 two days ago, now it's $3.00. F'ing sucks. I had to drive 140 miles today to pick my friends up from the airport, too. (70 miles there, 70 miles back). I'm ecstatic!

He's lying. He lives less than a mile away from me.

If you read my first post, you'll see why he said that. o_o"

I love the American take on our skyrocketing gas prices. Not, "How can we make the cars America drives run better," but "Hey, now we're almost paying as much as the UK does for gas! That's not fair...we're Americans."

Brilliant. I most prices over here are 98p to just over £1 for a litre. Time for some math because you guys are behind the world in measurement.

metric conversions .org said:
Answer: 1 l = 0.264172 gallons (US Liquid)
Because US gallons are different from UK gallons (Fantastic!) I've used US gallons as indicated by "(US liquid)".
So 1/0.264172=3.78 (To two decimal places)
We then take the UK price of £1 for a litre, times it by the amount of litres in a US gallon (1x3.78) and we get ... wait for it ... £3.78!
Now we put the strong pound stirling up against the weak and puny US Dollar:
£1 = $1.9989
3.78 x 1.9989 = 7.5564
$7.56 (Rounded up) is how much we pay for a gallon of fuel.

So get down off the top of your ****ing SUV and stop complaining about your stupidly cheap fuel prices.

I knew it was going to be Sporkman to come to my rescue! And he was just as harsh as ever! And I wasn't complaining about your post, I was seriously looking forward to it.

It was $2.89 - $3.15, depending on which city I buy the gas in. Stations near the colleges are more expensive than those near the middle of nowhere here.

You probably didn't read my post in the other Gas complaining thread. In there I said that I had to pay 6,18/gallon.

Right now, U.S.A has pretty much got the cheapest gas prices. Just hop across the border into lower mainland B.C. and gas prices are about $1.25 a litre, which is about 5 bucks a gallon, and right now the difference between Canadian and American dollars right now really isn't that significant so that's a pretty big difference in price.

Typical gas prices are $3.40 a gallon in California right now.

I'm sick of all this stupidness about gas prices. The people I know who complain the most are the ones who buy double lattes (sp?) at Starbucks ever single morning before school. That's ten dollars right there. They have no reason to complain if they're throwing money around like that.

I take the bus so poop on all of you. :) Dignity? Who needs it!

Commonyoshi, it's the fact that those double lattes didn't cost $1.40 per gallon three years ago.

Yes, of course, because everyone knows Americans are dumb racists who drive massive SUVs and complain when anything bad happens.

Grow up. Our prices are lower because the United States is the third largest producer of petroleum in the world. You're the 13th. It's bloody natural that a producer's prices are lower then yours.

Even without that, your gas prices are so bloody high because your government places extraordinary taxes on fuel. 75% of what you (UK) pay at the pump goes to the government, not oil companies.

If you take out the taxes, you would be paying $1.97 (based on the British average of $6.06 from 2005), compared to American (without taxes) $2.17 (same year).

I think it's time you learn more about your own economy before trying to claim the people in this thread are ignorant, ungrateful rednecks.

Seriously though, when Americans complain about gas prices, you're pretty much saying "Crap, why the hell does gas have to be not so cheap instead of ludicrously cheap!?!", American gas prices are pretty much just catching up with the regular gas prices everyone else in the world used to have.

The bit you quoted is something I saw on urban dictionary one day, a comment by an American. I wouldn't use the terms "our" or "gas". I found it funny so I used as my opener.

And I'm complaining about the fact Americans are complaining that their fuel prices are "stupidly high" when they are still much cheaper than everywhere else. My whole point is that your prices are lower than elsewhere, whether this be due to the fact you are the 3rd largest producer of petroleum in the world or that our taxes are high. You're still paying less, alot less in this comparison, yet you're still complaining. It's like you get a bigger slice of cake than the guy next to you but you're unhappy because it's not even bigger!

As for the SUV comment at the end, I was just switching 'high horse'/'pedestal' to fit the context. I thought it was humorous...

The same gas station as the first post, is now at $3.17.

It's raised 15 cents in 13 days. Gross.

I just read this in the news and it is expected by analyst that gas prices are already at an "all-time" high in some areas like Chicago and San Francisco and predict that prices will go up even more during the peak of summer ,but even though gas prices go up, people are still gonna buy and fill up their car regardless because I mean how else are people suppose to commute to work by walking? no it is a definite choice that people will have to pay higher prices. I feel pity for people who only own an SUV man I mean come one a person with an SUV has to be rich or else you'll go broke, I mean with a gas prices of $3.09 a gallon a person an with SUV will easily spend over $70.00 ! Which means for me that I might have to start ridin' my bike to work
