While considering how best to improve my technique for Meta Knight, I took a step back and thought: 'What real strategy am I going into matches with?'
Of course, it's very easy to go through the motions, stringing together moves and trying to keep the upper hand, but without a defined game plan my match quality is very variable. Sometimes I'll try to keep moving and get hit as little as possible, hence not doing enough damage when it matters, while other times I'll attack rapidly without much forethought for ending lag or shielding and be punished for it.
So what, I ask, is your broad mindset that you enter your matches with? Do you always try to keep your opponent on the back foot, or hold back and capitalise on chances when they arise? Discuss.
