That's weird that they'd do that but...like the unofficial sequel games to Chrono Trigger that were hit with the cease and desist (or whatever they're called) order, chances are the game's still going to be floating around the internet for a while regardless and just to spite Sega.

Another big company doesn't want a bunch of fans making the game they refuse to make? Sounds just like Square and the Chrono Trigger sequels (as Livewire mentioned).

I'm pretty sure the reason why big companies do this is because they don't want other people potentially making money off of their IPs or something. Even if it is non-profit companies always assume the worst. Either that or maybe they see a good idea and want to do it themselves so they can take all of the credit and profits from it. I highly doubt the latter because there still hasn't been a third Chrono game and Square hasn't thrown out HD remakes of Streets of Rage or anything.

EDIT: What I don't understand is why companies don't just hire the people who make these games because clearly they're talented and could be a great asset to the company.

I'd assume they don't because they figure if they do then they'll 1. Inflate the people's egos, and 2. Come across as supporting what they think is "stealing their material".
