Stop projectiles!

With your fists!

I made science and found out which projectiles can be stopped/outprioritized by an attack. Sure, it's useless for stopping since you can powershield, but if you can bash through an attack and hit your opponent it's pretty good, no? It can give you a bit more safety in battle. I got some pretty suprising results. This isn't completed yet, but I will complete it soon.

:mario2: Mario's Fireballs

DA overrides Fireballs. Woop. Just bash straight through the spamming. Jab can stop the balls as well, but it cancels your own animation.

:peach: Peach's Turnips

Jab and DA just stop the Turnips. You can catch the Turnips by airdodging or doing an aerial, though, which is much more useful, especially with Glide Toss. Otherwise, just powershield.

:link2: Link's Arrows and Boomerang

DA overrides the Gale Boomerang, and Jab stops it. Yeah. Arrows can be stopped by jabbing, but honestly? Powershielding is a lot easier to do. Not sure about DA beating arrows.

:pit: Pit's Arrows

DA and jab both stop the Arrow. Powershielding is easier.

:diddy: Diddy's Peanuts and Banana's

Peanuts can be caught, the normal way, by airdodging or doing an aerial. DA destroys the peanut, which is awesome. Jabbing breaks the peanut as well.

Banana's are weirder, I think that DA'ing over them makes you trip, but I'm not sure. Otherwise, you can just pick them up and maybe try to catch them if Diddy is close by.

:popo: Ice Climbers' Ice Block

Dtilt reflects it. I'm not 100% sure how it's done, but I think you have to dtilt them so you hit them exactly at the tip of your foot. Know that it reflects both shots, but if you mess it up, one of them will hit you, and the other will be reflected.

:samus2: Samus' Charge Shot and Missles

A Homing Missle can be stopped with jab. However, you can also just override it with the DA and hit her in the face. A Super Missle is stronger - it can still be destroyed with the jab, but DA only clashes with it.

Small Charge Shots can be stopped with jabs, and I think Medium-sized can be stopped with ftilt. Another thing I know is that a fully charged Charge Shot can be stopped with an uncharged fsmash. In my opinion, it's easier than powershielding it and it looks really awesome.

:yoshi2: Yoshi's Eggs

Yoshi is pretty weird. Jab can stop it, but sometimes the egg hits you anyway. I think you have to hit it with the end of your jab, but I'm not sure. Ftilt drills through it easier, though. But you can still get hit out of it, sometimes. More testing will be needed.

Also, Yoshi's forward B clashes with ftilt and gets outprioritized by fsmash. Just cool stuff.

:toonlink: Toon Link's Arrows and Boomerang

Arrows can be stopped with jab and clashes with DA. Boomerang is the same as Link's, DA overrides it and jab clashes.

:dedede: King Dedede's Waddle Dee's

More strange projectiles. Anyway, jab 'stops' the Waddle Dee's. As in, it doesn't hurt you. Same with Waddle Doo's. They'll still be on screen and wander around though. I have no idea about Gordo's, but.. I don't think anything will override those.

This is all I have for now, but this'll need a bit more research. I'll get to that when I get unlazy.

ganon's up smash can stop like any full charge projectile like samus' or lucario's... so ganon basicly blocks the shots with his bulge, or as i like to call it the "C*ck block" i think its easier then fsmash but it might just be an opinion.

I think Ganondorf's dash attack can stop Snake's remote missile, except the missile will simply drop and explode.

Nice work though. I did not know about the forward smash stopping a full charge shot from Samus.

Thank you for posting something useful and researched in this thread. If you don't mind, I want to include your findings in my guide.

Also, I'm pretty sure jab stops Rob's gyro.

I think it only makes it angle towards the ground, not drop. So not only do you get the surprise factor, but you get the full 14% instead of 7. Of course, that's only speculation, but I've never seen an attack actually force the missile to drop, only redirect it.

Well I have hit it sometimes to redirect it, but I think other times the missile would just stop, drop, and explode on me. I do not have much research to say anything with confidence, but I will try to get on it as soon as I can.

You're welcome. You can go ahead and put it in your guide.

And yeah, an uncharged Gyro can be stopped with jab, I think. I'm not sure, since I had to leave while I was busy with R.O.B.'s Gyro.

Huh, weird, because I tried upsmash and I simply got hit out of it. I'll try again later.

Maybe a bit old but il would like to contribute something:

Jiggly's rollout and yoshi's side b can both be caught with a side b (you still get damaged thou)
The PK thunder projectile (Ness) can be cancelled by a well placed aerial up a

also about yoshi's egg toss

I think the reason you still get hit is because when the egg "pops" its a separate thing ( i suck with the lingo). By the way Uair does not stop you getting hit by it either

yoshi egg thing is one of two things
1) the egg hit ganons body enstead of the attack
2) the explosion of the egg hits

Something I like to add but I think a FJ NAir also blocks Pit's arrows, except the animation continues so you can still hit him with the 2nd hit. I say 'I think' because I can't remember if it was Pit's arrows or somebody elses projectiles.

I posted my own findings in Sliq's topic months ago, but I don't think they ever got any attention.

Lucario:

F-Tilt and DA eats uncharged Auraspheres. Fully charged, F-Tilts can eat them, but for only up to 117%. DA keeps eating them until 142%. By then, Lucario should of already died, meaning Lucario users can't just spam projectiles on Ganondorf.

Okay, did further testing. Ground moves aren't the only thing to use against projectiles here. UAir will stop fully charged Auraspheres until 104%. BAir stops them even past 120%, and FAir is insane, eating Auraspheres even beyond 145%!

Dedede:

Okay, I went and managed to test this myself with 2 controllers. The following moves CAN prevent injury from Gordos:

DA, F-Smash, U-Smash, FAir, and BAir!

These attacks do not eat Gordos, BUT rather it passes right through Ganondorf, neutralizing the threat and leaving Ganondorf unscathed! This makes sense, as I do think Gordo has a hitbox that hits twice before Gordo vanishes. It also seems there's a particular timing involved, and with DA the angle might also matter. I had trouble neutralizing Gordos when Dedede tossed them from slightly above ground

Pikachu:

Jabs, F-Tilt, D-Tilt, DA - all eat Thunderjolts. Requires more precise timing than other projectiles, but still works well.

Zelda:

Testing this with only two hands: ANNOYING!

But I knew it existed, so I had to recreate it. FTilt and DA neutralize blasts from Din's Fire, so it makes sense to approach Zelda with this up your sleeve in case she's trying to rack up damage from afar. FAir also does this.
