Steel City Smash - general thread

Well, im pretty much replacing samus's run into just wavedashing for movement, and its turning out good. Yet Im making mistakes over and over again. One of the few ways ive gotten a kill was by spiking, and he even stopped me once. Hmm, mainly, I have a problem with getting fox, and now his falco and falcon, to the edge. What would help is if I should spam bombs and forget about Short hopping, or continue to SH and see if I can improve on that. My SH spam comes from my transition to melee from 64 in which most areals are better than ground moves. Lolz, im trying to play fox, but it seems useless untill I actually get melee maybe and experiment with his 5 ton body.

I know a few tricks for Samus..


For instance, Samus's nair's hitbox hits slightly below. So you can use it as a last ditch effort to hit fox out of his U-air.

If you missle cancel to two missles often, and he starts shielding, then missle cancel to grab. That way, the first missle will push him away so he can't shield grab you, and your grab range will get him.

If he is reflecting your missles, Cancel the first one comepletely then grab.

You shouldn't have any problem getting to the edge. They can all spike you. Save your double jump so you can spike them instead. Also keep your grapple to cancel their recovery if they miss or meteor cancel.



Because they are all fast fallers, you can combo them easily. If you can spike them off the ground, that's a perfect set up for missles or charged shots.


Edge guard Fox, Falco, and C.F. with axe kicks. You can try double and triple spikes, but axe kicks hit the ledge and have a good trajectory. Missle to mess them up. Homing will prolly work best.

I think your problem is that you dont mindgame too much, i play very predictably and my only way out is tech skills. If you play patiently and only counter attack i think you would win against me. But still pretty hard when I give your samus no distance.

This crew is haywire!!

Half the crew is either MIA, operates on a malfunctioning cell phone, or is traveling across the nation (anywhere but Steel City). I guess I can only add that I, too, am not even in Pittsburgh right now.

Anyways, in conclusion, I just found it surprising for me, to have been in the Steel City for nearly the entire summer, to find it so difficult to even meet these guys and fight em (except for Taki, who is open to Smash if he ain't working, and Cowboyardee, whom I saw at a CyberConxion tourney).

Is anyone in this crew going to that Western PA tourney?

Hey SCS, I played with Beaver's Panda Detective crew recently and I think they'd kick yer *** atm. I hope you've been practicing cuz those pandas got skillz mang. I still havn't decided on whether I want to join a crew or make one...been thinkin bout a crew called Pittsburgh Smash Elite with the top5 players or so. Just a thought tho.

Two days, cheap housing, huge pot, free cable internet and router, we tape matches, free breakfast, beautiful men, I'll convince my girlfriend to come and you can all take shots at her, ect.

I will give kudos to anyone willing to **** my c.falcon (pretty easy, honestly). As a Bowser player in rehab, I need more experience, NOW.

Also, I will hugmatch anyone with Bowser. Beat me in 2 of 3 mlg rules, get a hug. but if I win you gotta suck my ****.

Good idea, Twin with 20 stock versus SCS. I'd put some $$$ on that for GGPD.

HAhaha dayam, "~Best Pittsburgh Crew", yeah that is a pretty d**k move on your part. I like it though, hopefully it gets SCS in gear.

I'm not in any official crew but I personally know 4 people I can round up that, with me, that could give GGPD a run for their money. Unfortunately, one graduated, one is rusty, one probably wouldn't go to something like this...
...so maybe I'll just have to prove myself alone that weekend or something.

ya know... its been a while since i posted and even payed smash. i have been trying to start back up... but quite frankly, i have NOBODY...and i mean ... NOBODY to play against. im not too far from the city... but i dont have transportation outside of the bus. but if i get on that, i wouldnt knbow where to go from downtown. and i know half(if not more) of the crew is mia. but its kinda hard to get togeter with everyone moving around and changing areas. but, hopefully i can make it some of these tourneys c oming up

hey guys -- it's been a while
hope everyone's doing well

since last time i talked to you guys, i've moved to regent square/wilkinsburg and returned to school. I had neither phone service nor internet for a while, so sorry to anyone who tried to reach me but couldn't.

I hadn't smashed for a while until a few days ago, but i picked it up again (playing fox, actually). The nice thing about not being too good at the game is you don't get much worse when you stop playing for a while.

Anyway, i've got a working car, and a nice place where people can come play. I'm busy on weekends (work), but school's not too bad and I'm free often during the week.

I've been practicing Melee like crazy, because at my dorms apparently A LOT of people play SSBM. So we have nights where all we do is play Melee, and it's really fun. Of course, the people who play over here are some of the best, so I've been getting better and better, lol. XD


Anyway, I'd love to play a SSBM against some more opponents. Just let me know if you're interested.


Oh, and by the way, I live in the North Side area of Pittsburgh (although this weekend, I'll be going home for my 2 week break from college, so I'll be out of state for about 2 weeks).

Steel City, you guys need to give GGPD a proper crew battle. Only takie made it to SitC. He was a pretty cool guy. if the rest of you are fun to play with like him, I'm sure we'll all have some fun. Y'all better come to SitC 2 and bring tvs and cubes. You have 3 months to plan for it, just do it.

And what were the results of the ladder system rankings?

wow... i totally forgot how outdated that page is. lol. but yea, most of the players are MIA. in fact, i think taki is like the only one still playing (actually, i picked it up again... as did iceburgh). but hey maybe its a good thing. now only the dedicated players remain...granted there are about 4 of us. lol. but now that you brought it up, i will try to get in touch with the rest of them and see wats up.
