Just a couple of videos going up against a friend of mine on Wi-Fi. He's a competitive Yoshi player who frequents the forums. Thankfully, he's relatively close, so lag is basically non-existent.

Match One:
Stage: Pokémon Stadium 2
Characters: Samus (Serris) Vs. Yoshi (Naucitos)
Duration: 4:52
Winner: Naucitos

Match Two:
Stage: Lylat Cruise
Characters: Samus (Serris) Vs. Yoshi (Naucitos)
Duration: 3:23
Winner: Serris

Umm... From what I saw, your projectile game is very good, but you should go in for more close combat every now and then to mix it up. Especially in that first life when I saw Yoshi go past 200%, there should've been more kill attempts. I also didn't see any ftilting, which is an incredible move, and I think that may be one of the reasons why you don't go into close combat so often. It has lots of range and it's really fast, so consider adding that to your gameplay. I have to say though, I really did like the way you controlled the match with projectiles, especially in that first match, mixing between missiles, supers, chargeshots AND z-airs.

Nice vids dude. Too bad about that first stock in the first match, I saw a part where you could have edge hogged yoshi by re-tethering and keeping your invincabilty. It's a very good technique, especially against poor recoverers like yoshi.

I like your spacing ^^

I keep hearing mixed reports on whether to use roll or not... I know in melee it was really punishable because of its speed. Is it still the case? I haven't used it since... but maybe I should start more?

Thanks for the critique. I know about the f-tilt and its applications, but Yoshi's close combat game is (generally) a lot faster than Samus's, so I try to rely on long-distance attacks and grabbing over going in his face and getting punished for it.

I noticed that, too. I'll try to keep that in mind next time I play him.

Thank you.

I constantly use Samus's roll because I'm used to using it for other characters. I've rarely gotten punished for using it, but I can see how it can be exploited. It's just a matter of preference.

Keep the responses coming! I'll try and update with more matches.

I haven't had time to rewatch the video, but are you sure? Alot of people say yoshi is bad at recovery but its incredibly good, and quite misleading, don't underestimate us XD

I would say be more careful when using projectiles against Yoshi. A lot of times you were more focused on getting your missiles and charge shots off than blocking or dodging the eggs, and that cuased some damage to rack up.

Also, you may want to stop trying to block the eggs Yoshi throws with Fair when coming back to the stage from hanging on the edge.

Nice spikes in the second match :)

In that ruined tower, atop a mountain.
Comments:

--Dair Looked like you had some trouble landing Dair. Out of an estimated 4 attempts, none of them hit. I'd recommend trying to improve your accuracy some more with that. Maybe it was just bad luck?

--Charge Beams You didn't really keep your charged beams for long. By keeping a charged beam on you is a good fear mindgame on your opponent. It can also increase your odds of hitting your opponent with it.

--Melee Seemed to me like Yoshi rushing you was an effective approach for him. IMO, you made good use of your projectiles, but at the same time relied too heavily on them. I had the same problem myself, and countered it by playing friendlies using no projectiles whatsoever. (Though everyone has their own method of training) You want to keep the minimal amount of weaknesses possible, and the ones you can't eliminate, hide them.

--Aerial Dodging You did some... ackward aerial dodging there. O_o The Yoshi was able to punish that a couple times. It's almost like you were panicking, and tried to escape with L / R.

--Grapple Beam Nice use of the Grapple Beam. The majority of your grabs were successfull. =D

--Offstage Performance Once again, it looked like you kept getting too excited off stage. O_O By keeping a cool mind, you can thuroughly think of possible maneuvers and evasive paths back to the stage.

--Dodge Roll You dodge rolled a little much for my taste, and it appeared to be used mostly for escape. I would rather use shield sliding (name?) to put space between me and my foe. You don't have to worry about getting attacked as much then (though still need to be cautious).

Well, hope this helps at least a little bit.

Yeah the grapple re-edgehog woulda won you the first match so I'd try working on that a lil' bit. You're projectile game is insane btw.

2nd match though. Good Job with the Dairs =D

Thanks for the in-depth critique.

I've been leaning towards Samus's projectile game more than melee attacks for a while now, but I'm trying to cut back on it.

I usually airdodge a lot better than that. Don't know what happened there.

As for the roll, it's instinct.
