I thought about this when in my Media class this one kid who just wont shut and is completely annoying starting talking about how he loves Marvel vs. Capcom and he cant wait for MvC 3, He says what a great game it is and all this other crap. Me i think the Smash Series (mainly Melee) is better since it can be played fast, slow, you can move in a bigger area, and button smashing wont win the match.....most of the time. And also i think that there's really no cheap moves, like i know there's Shining and chain-grabbing but those can be gotten out of and arent used to win an entire match usually just to start a combo or get a stock, unlike MvC where you can keep doing the same move and they cant get out of it.

Anyway i wanna hear what you guys think so Which and Why.

Old argument. We like Melee better, they like MvC or Street Fighter better. To each his own. Personally, I can appreciate anyone who's really good at what they're doing. The Tekken stream earlier was pretty entertaining, regardless of me having never played that game.

melee is more noob freindly and less based on who you pick.

I don't know how much a like the games are but here.

Me and my brother when to gamestop and played SF4 I played as this one chick I played as when I played SFer 2
(I don't know which one). I lost everytime he braged and was an A**hole basicaly I figured out how to block and projectile and he couldn't do anything, so when he switched around he came to someone much worse I ***** him and I got a few combos I figured out as I played it was the only maytch I won as her he keep bragging.

So I picked the guy with the legs/arms that could strech to the other side of the stage and hiit him no matter what basically needless to say I solidly beat him without any skill at all mashing O or something compared to me doing combo and some tech as that one girl.

In noob levels of melee we never had that problem we never said F*** this it's way to much based on who you pick.

At higher levels again it's not 100% about who you pick I don't know about SF.

movement In melee I love the options you get you don't slowly back up and lose the ground you gained always. In melee you don't only have the choices to attack and block you can WD back be safe and begin to attack as they spotdoge. When backed up against a wall(edge in melee) most of the time you have many options to use 3 which all noobs can use and at least 3-5 more if they are any good. movement alone makes melee's metagame have a much farther metagame just think if you had to walk backward/forwards/ jump only many people would be broken or impossible to anything with like pichu/fox/kirby/ness movement makes you feel confortable gives you space and more options for mindgames/approaching.

stages gives you many choices it's hard believe, who you pick totally changes the fight, so many people are way different.

marth/sheik/fox/falco/puff/ice climbers/gannon are all toally different fights even from roy to marth are totally different you don't CC everything marth unlike roy.

Compareing SF to another fighting game i've played just as much as

The only non smash game I play is called Bushido blade 1 I'm not a master of this game of anything but i've at least unlocked katze(guy who uses a gun in a sword game and one bullet in basically a kill isn't broken as F*** but maybe the 2-4 best). The game plays like this.

You pick your person then pick your weapon some poeple work better with some weapons like there are somtimes 2 people good with one weapon. Most combos aren't automatic like SF people can block, attack also/ or tech out and risk being tech chased(it's a 3d open map and tech chaseing is very neat). Maps play little to a huge roll in the game. Like some maps have sand/snow/dirt to throw, huge maps let you run camp, ledges you jump on, walls to limit attacks, no walls to not limit attacks, trees to stop many attacks.

there is a lot of movement to use tech chaseing can easily be deadly you can limitlessly roll left/right but it's slow, you can crawl forward slowly it avoids many attacks but is slow, rolling backwards to counter/ non counter attacking, lie down slash someone attacking from above, jumping forward attack. Also one hit to the head/body can kill a hit to the arm can end many combos, weaker block, all projectils and sand throwing. breaking your legs will limit you to crawling for lack of a better word and you will have on combos and only like 1/3 of your normal attacks but you can drop to the ground and roll like when teching.

Also you can stand at a low/normal/high stanace that deceids your attacks and combos. Also some combos make me think of SF like low stance to back forward O then mash like H*** an attack button and you will unleash a massive combo of 7 hits one is enough to kill.

It's statements like these that make us look bad in front of the entire 2D fighting community. If you actually PLAY 2-D fighters, you would know how false your statement is.

Oh, also C-stick spamming = button mashing.

sorry i typed it too fast didnt feel like looking it over right now.

ummm how can that be considered button smashing, button smashing is hitting random buttons in the hopes of killing or hitting your opponent, if you hit the c stick while button smashing then it would in the mix but im sorry sir but C-stick spamming is button smashing its just spamming.

and if you lose to just the c stick that sucks

He sounds like the type of guy that can't be converted to the awesomeness that is Melee. You will have to stop trying and let him go.

are you ****ing kiddin me

MvC3 will blow the **** out of smash - obviously some of you haven't played the series with friends at a party or something

don't get me wrong, melee is fun every once in a while, but you can't disregard one of Capcom's VS. series as *nothing* (I personally think they should've went with CvS3 but SNK ****ed up a while back so).
---
@OP, don't be a dumbnut. You've never play 2D fighters obviously it seems. Yes, obviously top players beat others by button mashing

come on, man

I played SF games before melee I didn't have nearly as much fun. I've given them all a fair chance and even tryed learning techs by myself and i've watched matches but semi set combos aren't as fun why there are more falcon's than sheiks

@INSANE CARZY GUY

Define "semi set combos"
---
Just have to say

SF is not "button mashing". You have to be good at footsies, airtight with your technical execution, know the matchups, be good at zoning, keeping a strong psychological mind, etc.

There's so much to SF and it's very complex. For instance, pretend I'm Ken and my enemy is Ryu

I get a cr.HK (sweep) on Ryu and then try to do a jump in attack on his knockdown.

What do I do? I have a myriad of options. I can cross up with j.mk or j.lk; I can walk up to him and meaty into a combo; I can throw him; etc. Ryu also has to regard for the high and low mixups.

But wait, Ryu has a wake up DP that beats everything but blocking! Will I block? if I do, I can punish him for it. If not, I ****ed up and the match resets.

///

This is just one example of something happening in SF. There's just so much to it and that's why I love it so much.
---
On the other hand, Melee is like on-the-fly shenanigans. Sure the pure randomness of it all may be fun, but I guess it's just a preference that I don't like it as much.

Marvel was made with the intent of competitive fighting games in mind but the competition just turned out to be very unbalanced (but still playable) - Melee was made with the intent for a party beat 'em up (not even a competitive fighting game at all). And now it's turned into accidental tournament game that people like to play. Two different realities here.

Marvel was ment to be a competitive game? How is that? Large cast(to appeal to casual gamers), plenty of broken techs, bad overall character design in terms of balance, and infinites everywhere. The thing is, I don't want to argue this because I play both. But I still don't think Marvel was aimed towards the competitive audience.

I know it's not button mashing LOL I think I said that at all low lives all fighting games are button mashers even smash(not as bad but still) That the same basic set-up in many saces in melee If your falcon you knee and they land on their back they could roll left/right take their time do nothing and their get-up attack can beat everything is you can't follow up like that.

I'm not totally clueless. But Di greatly effects combosin melee in the same way, no need to explain all the different ways to Di. I'm not knocking it by any means other than It's less fun at lower levels than other fighters i've played i've watched a number of matchs like I have for melee even if I don't play the game and the combos still seem semi automatic like sheik.

Also take a normal case in melee defense wise. lets say (someone with a decent Wd) is sitting there they could sheild, dodge, outspace you, WD back to attack and set-up a combo easily. You have to start DDing or something to get closer and bait or pull off your attack. SF lacks the movement game and off the fly combos that aren't patterns.

Again I have nothing against it and you should know more. Just like I know more about bushido blade. I like movement mindgames and options.Sf does have them just not the kind I like.

EDIT

One of the most amazing things about melee that I know other/most games lack is the fact is if you use the fair rules nothing by any means is broken. Powersheild isn't even broken is someone could Powersheild everything they could be beat for a number of reasons.
1. just becuase they powersheilded it doesn't mean they can auto counter attack
2. they have to attack
3. very good spaceing can puisnh when they try to punish you
4. grabs
5.you hit sheild they try to grab/ punish your fast nair you spot dodge and grab them.
the only thing really broken are some stages and inf combos/stalling. which both are banned I believe(not counting waveshineing)

I have played it, ive played alot of 2d fighters i own Street Fighter 3rd strike, one of my favorite games, and i have played MvC2 so please don't tell me i haven't. And i never said pros win by button smashing because they know how to pull off infinite combos and know their characters i never said pros button smash to win

Oh yeah? Everything is fair, eh? What fair rules are we constituting here? Why is Wobbling banned then, for instance (unless people are easing the slack on it now)?

Hell, why is there an 8 minute time limit in this official ruleset anyway? It doesn't even make sense!

Inf time is truely broken. Also in a real life fight If you ran away and punched them like every 3 minutes they would end up shooting you.

wobbing is legit even If I myself think it's gay. It's not skillless

I mean in regards towards like SF's 99 second scheme. You can run out the clock, but not everyone does it (because you can use your momentum/life advantage/relentless mixups as an advantage to make your opponent crack under pressure). It happens from time to time, but its main use is to mostly just psychologically pressure you and make people on the defensive go on the offensive.

Something like that should be in Smash.

min long sets??? there are many probelms there it forces people to aproach when they simplely can't more mistakes equals higher metagame for marth and puff and no one wants puff to camp for a min and then for them to lose because it takes forever to KILL puff.
