Squeezing it all in: 40 characters is less than it seems.

With a 40 character limit, Not everyone who SHOULD get in, will get in. With all the people wishing for Dedede, Captian Syrup, or King K.Rool, I think many of us are losing sight of the limited number of slots for the game.

This is my example list. The only existing franchises to gain MORE representation are Pokemon, Starfox, Kirby, DK, and Metroid... and aside from Sakurai's own Kirby franchise, they only get one more character slot. All the clones have been ruthlessly eliminated and replaced, except for Gannondorf, who should never have been a clone in the first place.

Well,the only charactersi slightly disagree with are Deoxys and Sami,the reason why is because i think that Andy would be more appropriate due to the fact he is th primary character in Advance Wars 1 & 2,or even jake,who was Primary in Advanced Wars Dual Strike(Best game ever on the DS IMO).

And for all we know, he's axing half the cast of Melee. Not just the clones. For starters, were Zelda/Sheik really NECESSARY? I play as Zelda, and Sheik is very popular, but they aren't NECESSARY. They aren't like, say, Link.

Any ways back on topic, a total of 40 characters (or 35) isn't definite. While it was a major feat for Sakurai to sqeeze 25 characters (I count Zelda/Sheik as 1) in SSBM, keep in mind they had less time and staff on hand during it's production compared to SSBB with an entire studio dedicated solely to its development, though time may still be an issue...

Where does he point towards 40 fighters? All I know is he's axing Melee fighters, and pushing it as far as he can go. No real definite.

And, to be honest, I'm shooting low so I can be really excited if it's higher, or not disappointed if it's actually at that low mark.

falco has a too large of a fanbase to be included out. He is more important then wolf or krystal. I would get rid of the project hammer guy and put in falco. You also neglected the fire emblem series, they are definately going to add at LEAST one more person besides marth.

Dedede was top of Sakurai's poll. I'd hardly think that it's unreasonable to think he'll make it in, let alone consider him. And I'd rather have King K. Rool than any Animal Crossing or Advance War characters, but then again, I've never really had the patience for those kind of games.

I think people are WAY too hopeful for Deoxys and Lucario, and I don't think krystal is gonna make it, just a personal opnion, but if they expand on the Starfox series, it seems they'd do so off the fanbase, which is based around Starfox and Starfox64, so honestly wolf or another member of the fox team seems more likely. Tom Nook will NOT be in Smash Bros. he never will be, it's not going to happen, I simply cannot wrap my head around this hope for him to be in, it's a horrendous idea.

Looks pretty good kaid, only thing is I'd probably take out M-09, Hero of Winds, Wolf and Ray Mk 1 and replace them with Toad, Balloon Fighter, Skull Kid, falco and Stafy(though that's kind of biased), still, good job though.

I started out picking the top ones on the Toukouken [all of whom I agree with], then added Mach Rider to replace Ganondorf's style in Melee, Ike to replace Roy, FD Link as a luigified version of the New Ganondorf [and because he's amazing]. Crono because of how I think the deal with Square about Geno would go down [although Black Mage might be a more likely character]. Some franchises like Advance Wars and Custom Robo, although made by Nintendo, don't really need characters in Brawl if you ask me. Trophies would be enough.

In total there are 16 new movesets [on top of Melee's twenty], and five clones with varying degrees of Luigification. If there are going to really be forty characters I'd expect about five to be clones.

The ones which I might switch out for others are.

Balloon Fighter for Demiru,
Megaman for Sonic [although Sonic has NOTHING to make moves from]
Dr. Mario for Felix who would play much like Crono [but there were already 8 swordsmen so meh.]
and FD Link for Skull Kid, [but 16 is already pushing it for new movesets]

First off, that list is 17 new "original" characters, if I'm not mistaken. We all know Sakurari is God (lolz) but still, that's way too much. Of course, unless we don't want to game for another decade, then that's fine.

26 characters standing in Melee. Remove 3-5 characters. Down to 21-23. Add the 5 known Newcomers, 26-28. [**BACK TO 26**] Then, since we got .....4?...."original" characters in Melee, expect around 7-8, 33-35.

34 +/- a few slots for possibility of clones, which I think the final moments will be spent on balance and not clones like in Melee.

EDIT: McFox, Hero of Winds "Celda" is the official new look of Young Link. So technically, Celda *IS* the generic look of 'Young Link'.

Anyone else think there may be more than 40? I'd say Sakurai is playing us low. If it comes down to a few clones pushing over the 40 mark, I'll take them any day.

Scratch Isaac, add Sigurd or Ike. Scratch Marth if you want both Sigurd and Ike. Scratch G&W, add Dedede. Scratch Star Wolf, add Falco. Scratch Ice Climbers, for the Diddy/Dixie combo. Only one new Pokemon, unless one of the others gets scratched.

You also need a few obscure characters. Try Takemaru, Little Mac as a clone of Takemaru, the Melee-axed Balloon Fighter or the ever popular Muddy Mole.

40 characters hasn't been guarenteed yet and I'm not sure that we'll get that many.

As to your list Kaid, its good for the most part but a few things seem off to me. I strongly doubt that a character from Project Hammer is going to be included. The game hasn't even been released itself and I doubt they'll give a spot to a character that may not even end up being that popular. Likewise I'm not sold on Hero of Winds, Sami, Tom Nook, or Issac being included as new franchises even if I wouldn't mind having the last one. Other then that, the rest of character choices seem good, although I would say that Fire Emblem will still be represented by at least two characters.
