So, how do you guys rank up on the leaderboards?
I know I'm 12th in classic City Escape with a time of, about, 1:32.
For classic Rooftop Run and classic Planet Wisp, I believe I'm in the top 20.
(Xbox 360 version)
♥ Well, I'm currently own the PS3 version, so far I've only gotten 1:28 on City Escape, of course other people have faster times, but yeah I'm working on it lol...

Who here has the PS3 version of it?

Don't bother with Classic Tropical Resort, Modern Radical Highway, or Modern Casino Night if you do.

The former two are the same as the original; no remix. And the latter is the same as the Casino Night DLC for the console version.

On second glance, you're right. Song's still kinda sucky though D:

Nice to see they decided to remain with the techno vibe for both Highway stages.

I like the Modern Emerald Coast remix too.

I almost bought the 3DS version today, but I decided to go with Cave Story 3D instead

Anyone know if the 3DS Sonic turned out any good?

It doesn't seem like it's too good.

When the game was announced, it was supposed to be levels from Sonic's portable history (no Game Gear though). Their level choices were about every first stage from the Sonic games (minus Casino Night and Water Palace). I heard that the levels were bland as well. They also give classic Sonic homing attack (REALLY?). You get it after beating the classic era. You have no choice of turning it off.

The only thing that I heard that was improved was the physics. They say they're better than Sonic 4's.

The music for the 3DS version also ended up being pretty bad as well over all. If anything the Big Arm Boss music was the only memorable piece of music from the entire track as well as the Modern Tropical Resort. Everything else aside from those pieces were pretty bad. The level choices also sucked because for every level they chose there were probably 20 better levels instead to pick from. Casino Night was a good choice, but the execution was pretty flawed and I couldn't stand the music, Windy Valley was probably a better choice than Emerald Coast, but not a bad choice though I admit, Radical Highway.... to begin with it wasn't even a part of Sonic's history, it was part of Shadow's. There was also Metal Harbor, Pyramid Cave, and Green Forest to pick from from parts that WERE from Sonic's past, and if the only reason they chose Radical Highway was for the Shadow boss battle, then they have another thing coming because Sonic also battled Shadow in Green Forest and the race between them could've just been a race to get out of the island before it blew up, not some crappy race for no reason in Radical Highway. I want to say something bad about Water Palace, but I really can't say anything because I haven't played Rush so I have no say in this, and Tropical Resort... well I guess it was a good level, although I really saw no reason to include Colors in there when there was 06, which seriously needed some good revamping, and Sonic Unleashed to choose from. I mean seriously, there is Windmill Valley, Savhanna Citadel, Adabat, and Shamar from Sonic Unleashed to choose from and there's Kingdom Valley and that volcanic place that's in eruption in the future from 06 and if those aren't good levels to pick from, then I don't know what are. I'm not going to say that Tropical Resort was a bad choice, but it seriously wasn't the best for that one era imo.

I'm going to give it props that it doesn't have lol spindash though and the visuals looked pretty nice for the game, but homing attack on Classic Sonic is a giant minus imo. There's no option to turn it off, and I know this is hypocritical coming from me who uses only Homing Attack exclusively on Classic Sonic in the console version, but at least I have the option to turn it off when I can and that appeases the fanboys as well right there.

Overall, the 3DS game gets about maybe a 7/10 or maybe even a 6.5/10, but it's certainly not as orgasmic as the console version is and it looks like something I WOULD buy, but I'm in no rush to get at all

1) Egg Emperor is there to parallel the Egg Dragoon in the console version, like how Big Arm parallels Death Egg Robot and how Biolizard parallels Perfect Chaos. No clue why they didn't choose Nega Wisp Armor though.

2) SEGA never went on record saying handheld stages would be used in the 3DS version. What was said was that the handheld games would be looked at for inspiration.

3) The 3DS game is very bare-boned. Not surprising, considering Dimps only had around a year to develop it, and on what is basically foreign hardware for them. The game isn't broken, just a tad underwhelming. Only get it when the price goes down.

I watched some gameplay of the 3DS version.

Didn't seem TOO bad.

The cutscenes use 3D models, but they move like the Rush cutscene sprites.

Classic Sonic talks like "!" and "?!" and all that. There's even a cutscene where classic watches modern do homing attack lolz
It's just modern moving from left to right and vice-versa off-screen.

Windy Valley - The most memorable course of the game to me.

Partially because when I recorded what is the primitive version of a "Let's Play" it's the only course I died in. Mostly because it's the only stage that I feel fits the old school sonic-esque Genesis fantasy world of "Mobius"

It wouldn't be a Sonic game without stupid glitches and such like that.

:I

One of the reasons I love the originals.

I got the 3ds version today and it is epic playing through as classic Sonic. Modern feels alot like a portable Sonic Colors. Only complaint is the stages are too short I'm gonna go through the whole thing in no time =[

Loving it so far

Man, even though the 3DS is incomplete as hell (trust me I could've waited till next year this as long as it was good), I still srsly want this game. I'm still disappointed as hell in the level selection. What was so hard about remixing up Route 99? That would've been a damn awesome level to pick for this no lie

The only thing that seems incomplete to me so far is the way they tell the story compared to the ps3 version but I didn't care about that anyway lol.

Mushroom Hill, Emerald Coast, Casino Night..Sonic CD Metal Sonic fight..all seem like great choices to me =\

Gameplay is solid and frame rate drops are non existent as classic and nothing horrible as modern.

Explain to me what's wrong with this game, that you haven't even played yet. lol

Yes I'm being defensive. Sega got this right for once, damnit.

Many of the levels are from the first levels of games (minus Water Palace and Casino Night).

1st stage in Sonic 1: Green Hill
1st stage in Sonic & Knuckles: Mushroom Hill
1st stage in Sonic Adventure: Emerald Coast
1st Shadow stage in Sonic Adventure 2: Radical Highway (weird level choice, in my opinion)
1st level in Sonic Colors: Tropical Resort

I swear to god that the level choices should've been better.

I've seen the game enough to be able to form an opinion on it.

Level selection sucks because Oil Ocean, Aquatic Ruin, Mystic Cave, etc wouldve been nicer choices for Casino Night (not bad though). Marble Garden, Angel Island, Hydrocity, Lava Reef, and Sky Sanctuary if it hadn't been out in the console version were all better than Mushroom Hill. Windy Mill (Isle? Can't remember the name) was a way better choice than Emerald Coast. Radical Highway.... It isn't even a Sonic level it's a shadow level. It's a damn great level don't get me wrong, but Metal Harbor, Green Forest and Crazy Gadget were all way better level choices than Radical Highway. Water Palace... Well I haven't played Rush so I can't say anything on that one except that for some reason it's the only handheld game in there and I really don't have much bad to say about Tropical Resort since aside from Planet Wisp, Colors really didn't have that much of memorable levels to begin with anyways

The remixes also suck. Every song is either a copy pasta of the original or they end up being the original with one slight tweak.

Classic Sonic gets a homing attack with no option for off and they make it so you have to use it at times.

If you want I can say more later no time right now

They put a casino/ theme park zone in about every Sonic game though.

1,2,3,cd, adventure, heroes, The advance and rush games..hell for Colors the whole thing was a giant theme park. Sonic and Casinos kinda go hand in hand. =|

And any levels on the consoles I wouldn't want on the handheld. I'd rather the diversity. I do agree I guess that I would rather have Windy Valley over Emerald Coast. I think the reason for that is that it would have been harder to make the level fit with classic Sonic. And being as the game is from the sideways perspective for both Sonics, the awesomeness of some of the design would be lost from the original.

Playing Radical Highway sideways though is downright trippy as modern Sonic it's close enough to the original level that I'm trying to remember what's ahead but I can't see that far with the camera angle how it is lol

I have no idea how crazy gadget would even be any good at all when this version of the game is all side scrolling. One of the best parts was the gravity room. The remixes aren't the best remixes, but if you like the music from the games is not like they made any of them worse it's still nostalgic going through the levels and options. They crammed alot in. There's something from just about every popular Sonic game.

I honestly don't mind classic Sonic having a homng attack. He's still completely different than modern Sonic. His homing attack even feels different. I haven't finished the game and didn't want to be spoiled too much so I've avoided looking up crap on the internet for it. Haven't finished the game so idc on the HA option thing and really, I don't care this game is really, really fun.

They say classic Sonic has better physics in the 3DS version, from what I heard.
He feels about the same to me, though I haven't had much hands on time with the console version yet. They nerfed his spindash a little. It feels almost exactly like the genesis as far as that goes now. And he can't do it while running either. Neither Sonic is quite as fast in this game due to the 3DS's limitations which for classic makes for a more authentic speed and a more true classic style of play overall. But regardless they both, classic especially, play exceptionally well, the best an original Sonic handheld game has since Sonic Advance 2.

And Mushroom Hill is one of my favorite levels from Sonic 3 and Knuckles so for me, that was freakin sweet.

I'm telling you guys if you like Sonic you will not regret buying this game.

The classic sonic physics in the 3DS version is the closest I've ever seen to the original games.

But then they **** on your parade by forcing homing attack on you after you defeat Big Arm. And yes, there are parts of the game in the classic sonic stages whereas you need to use homing attack to advance. But this is only in Classic Radical Highway.

Anybody else getting tired of Green Hill Zone?
I know it's the iconic "Sonic level", but it feels like they were kind of screwing over any chance of seeing any of the other cool levels from Sonic 1. :<
