currently about 30 minutes into an alcohol awareness course that is mandatory before i start college classes.

what i've done so far:
- learned that being a white male is apparently a major risk factor for alcohol abuse
- answered a survey where they first ask if i've used alcohol/drugs over the past year, then asks again for 3 months and once more for 2 weeks after i've answered "no".

this is also the second mandatory class about the same topic that i've needed to take.

edit: "only" 11% of incoming freshmen are heavy drinkers. apparently this is a great and acceptable number.

The stat is probably not accurate. It's likely that a bunch of these freshmen lie lol.

Sedda is likely correct. The program also stated that only around 60% of students drink AT ALL/even once during their first year in college. The school I'm going to reports a number closer to the 80-90% range for students drinking at least once per semester (don't remember the exact number), which I expect to be fairly common across different schools.

Have you walked through a freshman dorm? I've never been told by so many people that they would destroy me in smash. Freshman dorms are full of confident smashers.

This was before I was ever on smashboards or was aware of the competitive scene and to put it simply, my roommate was the second best person in my dorm and I would 4 stock him easily. This also wasn't a small dorm, it was the largest all male dorm on the east coast and was rated by playboy as the number one place in the USA for a girl to lose her virginity. Boy do I miss those days, hustling scrubs, and thinking I was god tier.

Yeah, I've heard people do similar stuff, especially in college dorms. At my house I was hosting 64 tourneys for a while, so any time I would always get the typical "Yo n64 was my ****, I'll whoop your ass with Kirby"

At least unlike smash competition at college campuses, good ping pong competition is fairly easy to find.

i really like ping pong, but i have absolutely no forehand at all. The only practice partner I have is my dad, and I can't tell if he's sandbagging when we play.

do you guys play to 11 or 21?

first night of freshman year i post in my dorm's fb page

"i am declaring myself god of ssb64 on this campus, if anyone objects my declaration, come to room 308 and face your demise"

some hot shot immediately comes up

20 minutes and several thrashings later, the punk ***** had reached his limit

right as i'm finishing him up, a second kid walks in on the beatdown

first thing he says

"woah, you play fast... do you know isai?"

it was the beginning of a beautiful relationship

cesar is now a teammate, a roommate, and a very special friend

it's amazing what one cocky fb post can lead to :laugh:

i actually got banned from that same facebook group for posting 30+ photos of different sea otters in less than 5 minutes

it was awesome

so after the discussion of ping pong i decided to look up official rules and tried using them today instead of the house rules i generally play by

i have no idea how to serve like this and i got destroyed in sets (total 5 to 13). half of the points were due to me trying to serve properly. how fix? i've heard of pendulum serving but i think i might have gotten it once throughout all 18 sets.

I hate the most those who don't know the rules and refuse to serve properly. I mean it's too easy to slide the ball on the racket with the hand; how could one even think that's permitted?

I normally just bounced it on the table and made sure not to attack the ball on the serve, which works fine when everyone else you play against does the same thing. We figured it was against the rules but never bothered to look up the proper way because it doesn't matter much at our level of play.
