Ah, a pauper player eh?
Oubliette reprint when Wizards.
belatedly but Gavin Verhey has said Wizards is trying to make it happen, but it's a combination of:
- Finding a set where it'll fit in, presumably both in terms of working with the limited environment and making sense flavor-wise. For the latter, I'd love to see it pop up in Conspiracy 3 if that ever happens.
- Figuring out what the heck they're gonna do with the rules text, 'cause that's a wordy boi right there. The idea behind it is easy to grok once you know what it does, but the sheer length of the text makes it hard to fit into the text box in the modern card frame.
There's also the issue of making sure the reprint is accessible - making it a promo is a no-go because then the reprint is not as accessible as it needs to be, as would including it as a masterpiece in an upcoming set.
I
guess they could pull a Yugioh and make a promo that's packaged with some merch, but if they'd ever actually do that. It'd essentially be bundling two separate products for two separate audiences that don't have a ton of overlap. Most people who would be interested in the merch probably don't care too much about a random bit of removal that really only specific decks in an unsanctioned format run, and most pauper players probably wouldn't wanna buy a bunch of merch they don't care about just to finish their mono-black decks.
Ok guys, let’s say you could add an entirely new series to Smash along with a represented character. The following are what you can add:
- A character
- A stage
- Twelve musical tracks
- 8-12 Spirits
- A trailer for the character
King of Fighters, all the way. Smash was heavily inspired by the series, both in terms of its mechanics (short hops, guard break mechanics, dodge rolls and sidestep dodges all got their start in SNK games), and Sakurai even pointed to an incident where he was playing KoF '94 or '95 against what turned out to be a couple on a date as the inspiration for Smash's design philosophy. So, without further ado:
- Terry Bogard. I'd prefer Kyo (and I feel like Kyo might have a bit more to bring to the table via stuff like rekkas), but Terry seems more iconic.
- Transcontinental Railroad. I know we have a train stage already, and the Esaka Overpass stage from '98 is more iconic for KoF as a whole, but that's Kyo's stage.
- KoF's got some absolute bangers:
- Kurikinton - KoF '98
- Kurikinton remix
- Sun Shine Glory - KoF 2002 UM
- Wild Street - KoF XIII
- ESAKA? - KoF '98
- ESAKA? remix
- Yappari ESAKA? - KoF XIV
- Follow Me - KoF XIV
- Arashi no Saxophone remix
- Arashi no Saxophone 2 - KoF '96
- Stormy Saxophone 5 - KoF XIII
- Kyokugen Training! Mountain Seclusion - KoF XIII
- KoF has plenty of other characters to work with, so... just throw in the rest of the Fatal Fury Team (Andy and Joe), the Japan Team (Kyo, Benimaru and Daimon), the Art of Fighting team (Ryo Sakazaki, Yuri Sakazaki, Robert Garcia and Takuma Sakazaki) and the Yagami Team (Iori, Mature and Vice). Also Geese Howard to bring us up to 12
- The trailer starts with Ken picking up something red and white off the ground and tossing it aside. The camera pans over to show us Terry Bogard catching his iconic Fatal Fury hat. That's really all you need, just a dramatic recreation of the iconic Ken vs. Terry intro from Capcom vs. SNK 2
