Well, just hope that when Hero or Banjo drop, they have no other character files pop in with them to start the guessing game again. Part of me wants to keep the secret as long as possible.

Not too long ago I messed around and drew Soft and Wet from JoJo, and colored it with pencils, which turned out okay. Most of that time though, I was messing around with markers and doing stuff in black and white, mostly to test lighting. I got an itch to try practice that when watching some videos of Jim Lee drawing Batman and doing the same.

Mothra was a true queen, came to Godzilla's aid after all the other Titans betrayed him, came to help him out against King Ghidorah despite the clear power difference, and even after having to deal with Rodan stood her ground and defended her king in the face of death. She was definitely worthy of her title.

Hoping she'll appear in a future film as they already left the building blocks for her return.

It's one of those nights where I randomly wake up in the middle of the night and I'm not tired enough to go back to bed.

Character speculation is in a weird spot because it feels like a transitional era. K. Rool, Ridley, Banjo-Kazooie all finally got in, and I think we will start to see more character requests coming from the younger fans. I'm 28 years old and I never thought I'd live to see Smash get this insane. But with only two characters left and the likelihood of the Fighters Pass being all third party, speculation is both open wide and narrow at the same time. It felt like for months Dragon Quest and Banjo dominated the discussion, and now they're both in. Most of the "core" Smash fanbase character requests are not really going to be commonly speculated because of the deconfirmations and precedent set. People are mostly trying to guess which third party franchises are the most likely, not necessarily the ones they want. Where do we go from here?

I personally see Waluigi and Bandana Dee dominating Smash discussion for the next game. Both are highly requested first party characters that people have wanted for a long time and will stay relevant with appearing in recent titles. I'll be curious what happens to the Isaac and Geno fanbases from now to then. Dixie might become more popular too. I hope so, at least. It's just quieter for Dixie right now because the DK fanbase is largely satisfied with K. Rool.

Zelda newcomer discussion will become universal as well. People want a Zelda newcomer, that much is clear, but finding one to agree on and rally behind is not easy. And it's still controversial to talk about one-off NPC characters as leading Smash candidates. Perhaps there will be a shakeup on the Zelda cast from now until Smash 6 though.

I really don't know what I would do to stay interested in a Smash 6, especially now that I'm getting close to my 30s. I'd be more worried about my favs being cut than the newcomers being added, personally. Smash Ultimate has done an incredible job addressing longstanding fan requested characters, so if this is the end for me, then it's a hell of a high note to end on. At this point I'm just curious what tricks Sakurai has left on these last two fighters. Joker has been the biggest shock to the system; Dragon Quest and Banjo less so. Does he have one more - or should I say, a last surprise for us?

I didn't need Banjo to be happy with the game. But I got him. I'm more than open to whatever is left. At this point I'm just going to try to wait patiently for the rest of the Pass. I never thought I'd be in this position for Smash without any big character requests left... but that's what makes it Ultimate.

So in other words, we still have a bunch of cards in play. I find Trailer theory the most interesting one if only because it makes it easier to take guesses IMO.

I don't get it either..I mean, Layton at least fences, so you know he can fight..even I, someone who's only Layton game was Prof. Layton vs Phoenix Wright, knows that Layton can hold his own in a sword fight with his fencing skills. Sakurai would also find some ingenious way to incorporate his puzzle loving nature I'm sure..even if I don't know it. I mean, this man figured out how to add an RPG-style Turn-Based Menu into a fighter..

Now I don't think that Layton is particularly likely to ever happen, if only because there are many more well-known and popular characters he has to compete with.

Oh, and having played PLvAA, it makes me really want to play more Professor Layton games..I wish they'd release some sort of HD Switch Collection of the DS and 3DS titles.

There should be more than enough to work with for the Prof. After all, Sakurai has made movesets for characters with far more limited abilities than Layton does. He'll be fine.

Eh never say never, I'd say. So long as he's still being requested, then Sakurai will likely consider him. Plus Level-5 is more or less on the same boat as Atlus in that they have been huge supporters since the DS and 3DS era (arguably even more so, probably) of Nintendo and is now moving over to support the Switch too. With a recent Yokai Watch game coming out in Japan the other day.

I'm sure Nintendo has at least considered Level-5 when deciding on the DLC pool, especially since the two companies have been close buddies with each other for a long time now. Plus Layton and Jibanyan have done fairly well in most fan polls I've seen. Especially during the ballot period.

Hopefully we will be getting a Switch collection, although we will probably have to wait until the original trilogy gets their HD ports on mobile first. Only Unwound/Lost Future left, which will probably come out in Japan next month or so.

Honestly, when it comes to Smash DLC, I personally feel that some of the most likely possibilities not already represented by a Character, Assist, or Spirit are Sora from Kingdom Hearts, Crash Bandicoot, and Monster Hunter.
I personally don't believe we'll see two characters from the same company, so any other Sega, Square-Enix, or Microsoft reps aren't likely.
As many have noted, its likely all of the DLC Fighters, aside from Pirahna Plant, will be 3rd Party since, well, there's no one 1st or 2nd party left who could provide more Spirits, have need of a new stage, or have need of new music tracks..everything Nintendo is pretty well represented in some fashion.

Oof..there's the big problem against Layton..Yokai Watch is a more popular series (in Japan at least) than Layton is..so I suspect that if a Level-5 character was to get in, it'd come from Yokai Watch, sadly..

Though another two points in Atlus & Joker's favor were..
- Sakurai LOVED Persona 5, even stating he based the menu design for Ultimate on its menu designs.
- Persona 5 was a critical and commercial success and garnered a ton of popularity, enough to be considered in the running for Game of the Year alongside Breath of the Wild and Super Mario Odyssey.
I don't think their support of Nintendo really came in to play at all.

Don't most people already expect and talk about new Pokemon and Fire Emblem characters constantly? It's hardly a shocking revelation. Even when most see this fighter's pass as all third party, there's been some doubts to that because Pokemon and FE being safe picks or whatever. I think at some point Kirby could probably get a new character, even if the essential trio is in. Zelda's trickier to say because there's a lot of options, but few stick out better than others. Maybe Skull Kid, and that's because he's been talked about for a while.

For new titles, sure stuff like ARMS, more Splatoon and more Xenoblade would probably happen. I already want an ARMS character, and I'm sure Elma or Rex could be at least interesting.

I can agree that discussion should mostly be around rooting for who you like, or at least characters who could be interesting. Most entries in the series went about adding as many icons and favorites as possible. Especially with 4 and Ultimate.

Trying to correctly guess who's actually in is fine and good, but once the game's out, it's not a big deal. I'd rather try to hype up who I like, without being rude about it. Since it's pretty clear fans' interests are taken into account.

I think less of a focus on who's gonna be right at the end of the day could do a lot of good.

Never forget that the most cringy bull**** Smash fans did in the speculation cycle wasn't "Bandana Dee as an echo isn't unrealistic", it isn't "Kazooie is reacting to Snake's Nikita means the Grinch leak can not possibly be fake", it isn't "Smash is special they can't just leak stuff with the box art" nor is it "THE DIRECT GOT DELAYED BY THE EARTHQUAKE THEREFORE THE SMASH CHARACTER MUST BE INVOLVED WITH THE SITUATION" and it isn't "OMG OMG THE BLOG IS LATE BECAUSE JAPAN GOT HIT BY A FLOOD THIS MEANS WE'RE GETTING A NEWCOMER OMGOMGOMG I BET IT'S K.ROOL!"

For years, these characters have dominated fan polls and forums, gonna feel unnatural to see the next game roll around and suddenly there's an entirely new cast of fan-favourites.
