Googled Crash 4 to find out about the demo that released (I think) and the first result is about how the gameplay is outdated. Something that they never elaborate on in the entire article beyond insinuating that linearity is bad. If ass wads like this become the dominant narrative in the public eye then the franchise will be murdered again and any hope for a platforming renaissance will be gone. **** you Evening Standard. You and your ilk will not murder my baby.

Isn't "linearity bad" a common critique against Crash games

Every time I see a once great studio like Rare put out a disappointing “modern” title like Everwild, I loose a bit of faith in the gaming industry. Naughty Dog and Sucker Punch are also examples of this.

Sure you could call it a critique. But it’s just a personal opinion that people treat as a marker of objective quality. Linear doesn’t automatically equal bad and open doesn’t automatically equal good. It’s gotten so bad that phrases like “open” and “freedom” and “customization” and “choice” are basically trigger words for me in a gaming context.

You mean, like your own personal opinion that you treat as a marker of objective quality that anything with an open world element to it is the spawn of satan?

Goes both ways, ya know. You can't demonize folks saying "Linear bad" when you sit around and always say "Open world bad" yourself.

Bloody hell Snake. Now that's just mopey.

And you didn't place good examples out there with ND and SP, especially with their reception the two games they released.

Yes The Last of Us II, had issues in regards to handling some stuff story wise but it has done some of the biggest risk taking with it's story theme of hate. People "hate it" but in a good way. Could have been better yes with some other places but it still did what it intended.

And Sucker Punch? They just created a game people have wanted for YEARS, including myself and a few others here. An open world samurai game which they did deliver in spades. A little repetitive and has issues? Yes but it's amazing.

They did accomplish what they intended to do stand out? You can bet on it.

I mean I respect her opinion but at the same time, she's the type of person who seem to critique things without properly looking into it. Her look at first party PS games for example.

I mean, you try being a group of developers trying to think of breaking new ground for gameplay, story and such. It's getting pretty hard at times.

Discord conversations got me to make my own Xenoblade character tier list.

What do you think?

And yes, I know I need to finish Torna and Future Connected.

Does it still feel like the beginning of 2020 for anyone else?
It feels like it's the middle of 2020. :drshrug:

I don't know if I want this year to end, tbh. I kinda got used to the bull**** of 2020, there's no knowing if I'm prepared for the next year if it's any worse.

I want to be positive and say next year will go better for me if they accept me for college this July 30th.

The idea of spending most of my day studying outside home without having to deal with the constant non-sense of my family and at a pace which could easily fit me better while potentially sharing classes with one of my IRL friends makes me feel that alone will improve my daily routine a lot.

I believed steven once. Then he broke out metagross and swept the rest of my team. That's the thing about steven. You gotta watch out for his four legged flying face.

This is the only part of the post I disagree with, TLOUII uses cheap manipulation whereas games like No More Heroes, Metal Gear and Shenmue have used the themes TLOUII uses and even uses it in the game design
They said it was a risk.

Not that it was good.

Idk I just don't see using cheap manipulation tactics as risky, especially as my examples had deliberately unfun game design to send the message instead of saying "Wow this says a lot about society doesn't it" every time you're forced to kill a dog because there was no other way to progress through the plot

Sucker Punch's newest game is great tho
I’m sure it’s if objectively high quality. I’m sure it’s very well made. But it’s still a dime a dozen open world soulsborne game.

Once people stop treating linearity like a dirty word and realize that some people just don’t like open worlds and “hey, if that’s true, maybe every game shouldn’t have one”, then I will stop

How does GoT stand out? It’s like every other game that comes out. Open world. Slow combat. Overly serious. There have been games that let you be a Samurai before. In this genre even. Look at Nioh or Sekiro. And they didn’t require the people who used to make Sly Cooper and inFamous to spend their resources on them when they could have been doing something more unique instead.

Same with Naughty Dog. It’s great... ish.... that they’re still doing Uncharted... maybe... but The Last of Us is not what I expect from the people who created Nathan Drake, Jak and Daxter, and Crash Bandicoot. It’s just sad.

Sekiro, Nioh and Tsushima aren't even remotely similar outside of sword stances, grappling hooks and assassinations.
If you have to compare Tsushima to anything it should be Assassin's Creed

You don't stop people crapping on one thing by crapping on the thing they like.

You are perpetuating the thing you don't like.

Pretty great list, TBH.

I would personally move Melia, Mythra, Egil, and Dunban higher up in the list but I can't disagree with much else. Nice to see another person who actually likes Tora, too.

I got my qualms with his pervy nature, but he also has a lot of qualities I like as well. There's enough to like that I can look past the part I don't like.

I like it. About half agreed with mine.. Jin, Lora and Haze in the love category and add Dunban to the personal favourites. He's probably my favourite "mentor" archtype character.

Mythra, Melia and Morag to personal favourites. A few more switching around and done then lastly add Kino and Nene together to love as the brother-sister works perfectly. Having two Nopon in a party was a great decision by the team for Future Connected.

Pretty great list, TBH.

I find him a little annoying but his visual design is nothing short of fantastic. The colour scheme just works and I want the mechanic Nopon character idea to come back. His voice in English is great but I feel like it's more of a victim of the writing than anything.

I wouldn't worry too much, the crazy **** tends to be contained to election years.

Ever notice that? Things always get to crazy around election year while the years inbetween feel like nothing ever happens
