I've been going back and forth between GRIS and Celeste this weekend, trying to cut down on my Switch backlog. It's funny how the games are so similar in some aspects and yet different in others.
On one hand, they're highly acclaimed indie platformers involving protagonists who are struggling with some kind of mental health issue. On the other hand, GRIS involves no enemies and no way to die in game, whereas in Celeste, it feels like the entire mountain is out to kill you as many times as possible. (I'm on chapter 4 out of 8, and I've died at least 500 times)
I got Celeste because seemingly everyone on the Nintendo Switch subreddit recommended it, but I find it more frustrating than fun. The current area (which isn't even halfway through the game, mind you) involves disappearing trampolines (where, if you miss up the timing of a single jump, you die), high winds, and precision platforming mixed in with all of that. There's the occasional moment of relief when I clear a tricky area, but then I remember that the rest of the game is going to get even more difficult from here.
GRIS is a lot calmer, with the closest thing that the game has to an antagonist only being able push you around, and the game is like a watercolour painting, though the story is much more vague and unclear.
I'll try to get through this chapter of Celeste, though I feel like I'll focus on GRIS between the two of them. I'm not sure which of my games would be the quickest to get through, though I figure that I'll try to change up the genres every so often so I don't get burned out on a particular genre.
